I would say that it's often more about the people than the manager for whether it's a good day or a bad day - in that if the team of people itself like one another, then the manager is usually inconsequential. You'll help each other and work together to get to where you need to be. That said, usually that type of team is assembled by a good manager and can be inherited by a bad one. I've never seen a bad manager put together and build a good team. Of course the longer a bad manager is running a good team, the more likely it is that the members of the team will start to go elsewhere no matter how much they like working with the group.

Dudes what was with the goal reviews yesterday? I thought both teams had good goals overturned. Why bother stopping the game for five minutes just to get a still controversial-at-best ruling? Why not just go with the call on the ice at the time that's also controversial or wrong? Eliminate the middle man here.

As a former beer league goalie, they really need to eliminate these soft goalie interference calls, its embarrassing. These goalies act like they cant be touched, you're a hockey player on the ice, you are going to get bumped. Obviously call it when a player runs over a goalie or clearly is in his way from stopping the puck....but these minor touches are embarrassing.
Also if tennis, soccer and football have these VAR systems can basically matrix in on a ball or a player's foot to see if either was a cm over the line then Im sure the NHL could use a similar system to see if the stick was more than 48 inches off the ice.

oh i get the time piece. But i get paid rather well, least I can do is get out of pyjamas and get my ass to work and actually work alongside my teammates. also i like my 4 monitors. Wait its now only 2-3 days a week? lol

My team lead and Manager are in GTA. Im in Ottawa. most of the rest of my team is in Toronto or Montreal. I dont see them if I do go into the office. There is 2 of us here that work together. hardly worth the bother

but iv worked from home for 12 years. pre covid was 2-3 days a week. but now I see how useless it is and wasteful. there are times you need to go in for sure, thats not a problem. its the going in just for the sake of it, and without a purpose thats dumb.

I have a much better setup at home, 3 monitors and a desk I can move up to stand. the office I might get 1 monitor and no desk I can do that.

anyways. ill drop it.

Similar experience to yours - I've been working from home full-time since around 2016, but I'd been working more and more from home since around 2006 - initially maybe one day a week and then later up to 3 days.

When we have a large project with many people, getting together in a room is still more productive because you can guarantee everyone is there and paying attention. You can also read people to see who's maybe not quite following along and change delivery to get them on-board. Like in 2016 we were designing an integrated product/service/resource catalogue system and conceptually there were a lot of people who just weren't getting the way these components differentiated themselves or worked together. Being in a room together really helped to recognize who was puzzled and then make room for questions or stop and explain things that you'd otherwise assume, from silence on a conference call, were fine.

But once the concepts are understood and the work is assigned and people break out into smaller groups to do different tasks, working from home has no downside.

I mean before COVID I had a DECT headset that allowed me to roam freely around the house while on conference calls. I could participate in calls and still be doing laundry, or even vacuuming if I wasn't really an active participant. Honestly that was probably the best work/life balance for finding time when there was none available.

Now they want us in twice a week, sometimes I'll see a team member of mine, most times I dont as they are in different offices/provinces. They updated the offices, built new buildings so they want people in them.
Could be worse.

He was in the blue paint. I think we're scratching our heads at this call because we've seen egregious goalie-gets-bulldozed goals still count and then the odd tippity-tap like this one get waved off.

Yeah, the 48 inches thing seems so ridiculously arbitrary.

Not to be repetitive, but it didn't look high in real-time on the TV either. You look at where the puck's trajectory takes a sudden downward change and where the stick clearly contacted it - and it's just slightly above Knies' waist. I am still stunned that it was upheld as no-goal.

This is far too sensible for the NHL to implement.

But yeah, this shouldn't even be an issue. I'm sure the technology exists to accurately measure the height of the puck based on triangulation with known values like the height of the crossbar and the base of the goal line. Use lasers or AI or AI-powered lasers or some poop.

A couple of weeks ago, I left my phone on my desk at work on a Thursday.

No big deal, didn't bother to get it on Friday.

Went in Monday. We take up an entire floor of an office tower in the downtown core.

Including me, there were 11 people on the entire floor.

Pre-COVID, I was given the option of doing 2 days at home. I declined - they thought I was insane. Nope, I'm an extrovert, I want to feed off other people's energy.

I was the first guy back after COVID. I was really excited.

I soon realized I wanted to come back to pre-COVID office culture. That's gone forever.

I now go in 1-2 days a week, and it's a complete waste of time (and I can get to the office in 20-25 minutes). I"m much more efficient and much happier working from home.

Fun fact: my office tower has a bar next door. I realize I've been to it twice since COVID ended. As I said, pre-COVID office culture is dead.

Last night’s game between the Maple Leafs and the Capitals was something incredible, folks! It was like watching a Big Mac vs. a Quarter Pounder—both teams brought their A-game, just like McDonald's brings us the best burgers.

The Maple Leafs came out strong, really sizzling like those fresh fries, and they took an early lead. But the Capitals, they didn’t back down, folks. They fought back like a McDouble trying to compete against a crispy McChicken. It was a real battle, tremendous effort from both sides.

In the end, the Leafs scored some fantastic goals, just like when you find that perfect snack in your Happy Meal—delightful! The Capitals had their moments too, but it was like when the ice cream machine is down; frustrating!

So, it was a great game, folks, full of excitement, just like choosing between a McFlurry and a sundae. Let’s hope for more delicious matchups like this in the future!
