He makes $1.35M for this year and next.

He's fantastic at that price.

- Atomic Wedgie

This is not a good take. He's a nice story but that's a whole lot of average for damn near double the league minimum.

Looks great playing on a team where David Kampf is paid 2.4 million to skate around and do nothing.

I don't think you're paying enough attention to the league economics. A 3rd line player makes about that much or more. These are his contemporaries in ice time:

Filip Chytil at age 25 has 14gp 4-5-9 for 4.437m x 4
Dmitri Voronkov at age 24 has 6gp 1-0-1 on his ELC
Anthony Mantha at age 30 has 13gp 4-3-7 for 3.5m x 1
Jack Roslovic at age 28 has 15gp 9-1-10 for 2.8m x 1
Matias Maccelli at age 24 has 16gp 3-5-8 for 3.425m x 3
Noel Acciari at age 33 has 18gp 2-3-5 for 2m x 3
Alexandre Texier at age 25 has 10gp 1-2-3 for 2.1m x 2
Joey Anderson at age 26 has 7gp 0-1-1 for .8m x 2
William Smith at age 19 has 13gp 2-1-3 on his ELC
William Cuylle at age 22 has 14gp 5-6-11 on his ELC
Isac Lundeström at age 25 has 13gp 2-1-3 for 1.5m x 1
Parker Kelly at age 25 has 17gp 0-1-1 for 0.825m x 2
Vladimir Tarasenko at age 33 has 14gp 2-2-4 for 4.75m x 2
Bobby McMann at age 28 has 17gp 4-1-5 for 1.35m x 2
Miles Wood at age 29 has 10gp 1-0-1 for 2.5m x 6
Zach Benson at age 19 has 10gp 2-1-3 on his ELC
Christian Dvorak at age 28 has 16gp 2-5-7 for 4.45m x 6
Ryan Poehling at age 26 has 13gp 0-6-6 for 1.9m x 2
Eeli Tolvanen at age 25 has 16gp 5-1-6 for 3.475m x 2
Ryan Donato at age 28 has 14gp 7-3-10 for 2m x 2
Ty Dellandrea at age 24 has 13gp 1-0-1 for 1.3m x 2
Connor Brown at age 31 has 16gp 3-1-4 for 1m x 1
Paul Cotter at age 25 has 19gp 7-5-12 for 0.775m x 3
Andrew Mangiapane at age 28 has 15gp 4-3-7 for 5.8m x 3
Trent Frederic at age 26 has 17gp 1-2-3 for 2.3m x 2
Taylor Raddysh at age 26 has 15gp 3-4-7 for 1m x 1
David Perron at age 36 has 5gp 0-0-0 for 4m x 2

You can be unimpressed - that's okay - but these other guys mostly make more and for longer term and are pretty much scoring at a similar pace. Some guys - like Mangiapane, Roslovic, Chytil or the surprising Cotter are outproducing him - but in terms of production, playing time and role - McMann is not overpaid.

I don't think so

And SJ has zero retention, Granlund is similar to Domi so don't see what they would want him.

Gourde maybe but he is also a guy I could see Kraken locking a vet like him up.

- Santo_44

Look up what $2.25m retention cost. Its 2nd-3rd. For the leafs with Montreal, it will be a 2nd.
Dont need SJ to retain anything, simply get a pick off them.

I just don't see him as a third line player. Most nights I seem to wonder if he should even be in the lineup, then he will have that one game that gives you something you like and disappear into obscurity for another 6-8.

If not for two hat tricks last year he scores 9 goals over the season, the most impressive season of his life. I would hope we can find higher ceilings to call third liners if the goal is to contend.

Sure. But he scored them. You can't discount them because you don't like how they affect the total!

Here's a rough outline of other playoff teams' 3rd lines. This is roughly accurate but changes with injury, play and so on - but for the most part these guys are the third lines:

Boston
Frederic - Coyle - Kastelic

Carolina
Martinook - Staal - Carrier

Colorado
Kiviranta - Kelly - O'Connor

Dallas
Benn - Johnston - Stankoven

Edmonton
Janmark - Henrique - Brown

Florida
Luostarinen - Lundell - Rodrigues

LA
Fiala - Danault - Thomas

Minnesota
Foligno - Gaudreau - Hartman

New Jersey
Cotter - Haula - Mercer

Rangers
Cuylle - Chytil - Kakko

Tampa
Goncalves - Geekie - Chaffee

Vancouver
Heinen - Blueger - Sherwood

Vegas
Howden - Karlsson - Holtz

Washington
Mangiapane - Eller - Vrana

Winnipeg
Niederreiter - Lowry - Appleton

Our weakness is not that we're running Bobby McMann out there. Our weakness is down the middle. From a winger standpoint McMann probably fits in on most of those teams' 3rd lines better than one of the wingers. That and we have him at an affordable rate. He doesn't do much - but no one does much at 5v5. His 4 5v5 goals puts him in the same group as Panarin, Stutzle, Ehlers, Guentzel, Hughes, Schiefele, Hintz, DeBrincat - so again, given his limited opportunities, his results aren't entirely inadequate. But for all of that posed defense of him, I do agree with you that he lacks consistency in his game.

So if we add McMann 1.35 to the league average of 3.5, we get 7.95 million and then we divide by half he should be making 6.1 million, give or take.

He's on track for around 19-20 goals, he's physical, and doesn't cough up the puck more than he steals it.

Seems like pretty good value and has numbers that are, at least, on par for a 3rd liner. 🤷

If only that's how it worked, being a female genitalia here would have value.

If the league average is the bar, I guess that makes Reaves a steal at his wage.

If goals is the only metric that matters when it comes to him, does Robertson not bury him on the value scale?

And no, I'm not heavily rating 5 total goals between the two over 17 games into this season making that statement.

You seem to be having a tough time evaluating players based upon their contributions to the team, measured up against their cap hit.

Reaves makes no contributions.
