he does seem like a really chill dude. just make sure you got a huge stash of some high-quality parmigiano if you invite him over, especially if you want to hear him go "ne ne ne"...

for some reason I feel he likes a good cheese but doesn't care about the wine, he'll just chug the cheap stuff.

I've had wine from a box here and there, in most cases it's pretty much as good as any other cheap bottled wine. generally speaking I'm not a huge fan of wine but you can get good deals at Costco lol.

it's never gonna be top notch wine but if you need high quantites of affordable wine, some brands of boxed wines are probably fine. i hear black box is also an acceptable one but i didn't really like the one i tried.

apparently costco sells a house brand of liquor and they just source it all from real distelleries and whatnot. so some of their stuff is supposely pretty good quality at store brand prices.

so you mean it has a Kirkland label on the bottle, but it's made in a distillery that also makes other known quality liquors..?

here in Quebec you can get beer and wine in almost any gas station or grocery store but you can only buy liquor in SAQ stores, so Kirkland would have to sell them there, haven't seen any of those products yet lol.

yes. they even say people really like one of their whiskeys and they debate what brand they think it really is back and forth.

i have to look into what the rules are in nj. i know our grocery stores can't carry any booze but they can have a liquor store attached to them. the gas stations can't sell booze here either. we just have liquor stores that sell all three, beer, wine & spirits, so you just try to find the best one near you that has a ton of stuff to choose from at okay prices. around here it's usually a canal's liquor store, but they aren't all the same so you have to be careful. wine warehouse and total wine & more are also big parts of my life.

huh, interesting.

concerning their vodka, I was looking it up and found out it's apparently made by the Gayant distillery, in France... I don't think they make anything else though, it's pretty much just the Kirkland vodka.

In addition to its water sourcing, Kirkland's Signature French vodka gets its distinct palate through its grain base and distillation process. While Grey Goose is crafted specifically from wheat, the grain composition of Kirkland's spirit is more secretive.

...

I find it's kinda funny that they're throwing a jab at Grey Goose but hey, maybe the Kirkland one is really good vodka, I've never tried it.

now that i'm looking into it, it looks like they don't have to debate who makes the kirkland bourbon anymore. they know now. it's barton 1792 distellery. they make some pretty good stuff.

also, in most boozes i've tried, wheat is softer, so in vodka i'd think you might want wheat. you're really going for a totally neutral taste with vodka.

and the same company also owns Buffalo Trace, that's cool. it's nice that the folks at Costco opted for selling something of decent quality instead of making complete trash in an industrial-sized bathtub.

and I agree about vodka, the taste needs to be really subtle, especially if you're drinking it straight or on the rocks. if you're mixing it then just go for a cheaper bottle of Iceberg or Skyy, if not it's a waste of good vodka imho.

that's the one. the price is another great thing about it.

i remember trying to find brands with somewhat comparable prices. i definitely remember ketel one, smirnoff, and stoli. there's another russian or polish one i'm forgetting.

ah I see, that makes sense. I guess other premium and more expensive brands like Belvedere might be slightly better but if it's good enough to be enjoyed on the rocks it's probably some very good stuff. I'll be grabbing a bottle soon and try it out myself.

sounds like an old broken defenseman Bergevin would've signed on a long-term deal.
