I watch a lot of Ranger games, and at this point Kakko is just a 3rd line player. That team has gotten old fast. Zibanejad sucks and Kreider is now basically another 3rd line player that’s good on the PK. Our $9.5M defenseman can at least skate, their $9.5M defenseman has lost a couple of steps, too slow to run an offense. Cuylle and Chytil are the only ones worth looking into, and Chytil has head injury concerns. The Rangers are a hot mess! |

Not really comparable. Even in a defensive role, Kakko has put points up. He was part of the Rangers most effective line before he was dealt. |

Really surprised how little it cost to trade for him. |

Watching the first games of the World Juniors, and a few other junior games, if the Hawks get the 1st pick I want them to take Schaefer.
I know he is another D-man, but he can skate, hit, pass, and plays both PK and PP already for Canada as a 17 year old. Appears to think the game at a high level as well. 6'2" 183 and is one of the youngest players in the draft class with a Sept. 2007 birthday. Looks every part the #1 Dman. |

2OA pick that has been in the league for six years and has put up >30 points in a season once, and not exactly a speedster either. |

It doesn't matter to the Hawks. Low cost to acquire. Low cap. Young, and better than a number of other slugs they have in the bottom six. If he tops out at Ryan Hartman without the dumbassery, that's a win. |

Nice to see my thoughts echoed in print

This is the most important passage:
There wouldn’t be enough roster spots for all of them even if the Hawks created a team entirely composed of homegrown players. There were 20 forwards alone listed above. But it’s also not realistic to create a team with only prospects.

I don’t know Chunk, he brings more than Anderson, Maroon, and maybe Kurashev, however he has never had a season like Kurashev had last year. The Hawks are not in a position to give up any picks for a third liner that will be a UFA after next year. At this time in the rebuild I would only give up picks for a young forward with top six potential, Kakko will never be a top six on a good team, at least that’s what six years of history tells us. He’s basically Tolvanen, and Tolvanen was available through waivers last year. |

Kakko has rarely played top 6 minutes. So, most of his production is from the third or 4th line. I'd say (from what I've seen of him) he at least had the ability to get a run of time with some offensive players in CHI.
Kurashev got most of last year with Bedard and can't even replicate half that.
As my previous post about the SunTimes article shows, the Hawks have so many picks and prospects that they can't/won't ice them all. Trading from a surplus for a lottery ticket on a guy that has shown ability of a 200' game I think is well worth it. |

Lalonde fired. Wings name Todd McLellen coach. - boilermaker100
All the comments about McLellen taking over for Lalonde, and no one cared to mention that the wings also brought in Trent Yawney as an assistant coach?
I figured that would have been the bigger story here by far. |

Kurashev in for Anderson on the fourth line, otherwise same lines and pairs. I still hate Korchinski and Brodie together, but it is what it is.
Mrazek starts. |

Didn't see that news until about 10mins ago.
Always seemed like a good dude
Glad he's getting another shot in the NHL
Last thing I remember he was some sort of assistant coach for Anaheim 5-6 years ago..not sure where he has been the last few years

Yawney was McLellen's assistant in LA. Looks like they are joined at the hip. Yawney has a good young defensive core to mold over the next few years - Moritz, Edvinsson, Sandin-Pellikka, Wallinder. |

Korch with Brodie does suck, but at least Korch is still up in the NHL. I'd give him another 10 games or so..if he keeps this up,he stays the rest of the season |

Last year KD let RFA Taylor Raddish walk after a horrible year, even thought the year before he scored 20 for the club. And he was making the minimum.
Kurashev this year is the same age as Raddish last year, and I can argue is having a worse year than Raddish did last year. Is he worth qualifying for $2.25, which is his current AAV? Or does he trae him for a bag of pucks (doubt you would get more than that for him. |

It will be interesting to see what happens when Martinez comes back. They're a bit crowded back there. I'd say send Crevier back, but then they are going to be sitting one of KK, Allan, Brodie, or Martinez, and I think they want to make sure KK is always playing as much as he can.
I'm sure everyone here would say just sit Brodie, but Sorenson seems to think he's playing OK and I'm guessing they want to keep him in the lineup in case someone wants to trade for him. |

With that extra year no one is going to trade for Brodie. Even with all his injuries, Martinez will get interest.

Unless our "role" players are of the Andrew Ladd and Dustin Bufglyien type, we don't need more potential Slaggerts and Dachs. |

Not to bring up an old argument, but I'm gonna.
I was looking at the D groups among the league and came to the Kings. This kid Clarke finally got into the lineup and is doing quite well. 19pts in 34 games.
I know there was a lot of talk here about the Kings giving up on such a great talent in Faber (and he is), but they had a logjam behind him, and they picked up a really good player in Fiala.
Get ready for a number of trades like that one from KD. He's got to start going quality over quantity now. |

EDM, Phillips, Kaiser and Crevier are kind of blocked right now. But nothing is urgent to get them out of Rockford. I don't think any of them are full time NHLers. I think Allen and Korch have moved ahead. |
