And even if they do it seems like it takes then a while to develop.

Power forwards are flakey. Long time to develop. You see teams open the bank for them and they end their careers on LTIR or end up big disappointments.

Sometimes manchilds don't work out in leagues they cant run over everyone else. Mark McNeill comes to mind. Good scoring on a bad Prince Albert team because he could run over the smaller players. Played 2 NHL games since he couldn't play against guys his size.

That’s always a concern when drafting power forwards, I’m glad I’m not the one doing the picking this coming draft. I know that most everyone including myself wants them to draft size, however I’m not sure that they should draft for current need, draft BPA, whomever that may be. The Hawks have some size coming in Boisvert, Spellacy, and Vanacker, although the latter is listed at 6’1”, he needs to eat a few steaks as he’s listed @ 175 lbs. all the aforementioned are not ready for the NHL, if they want size for the next two years, they’re going to have to trade for it, or through FA.

What the hawks will continue to have until they have to start paying Bedsy & the kids is Cap space.

I have gone on a few post back about trying to secure young players that need a change of scenery.
I thought that I may hope for is they "help" Ottawa with a trade for their oft-time injured Josh Norris, who turns 26 by the time the Cup finals end.
Because they over paid him to almost 8 million a year they currently have his name out there with few teams willing or able to help them eat it.
He would be a low cost kid, who always has been good in the face-off circle, and while not a beast, plays a physical game. (He gets injured...maybe due to that.)
So far he has not panned out for the Senators, as they thought he would be both scorer and set up man who total equal numbers of goals and assists with the right line mates.
That big fat salary is for 5 more seasons until his 31.

The caps going up, the current team have many contracts that end this year or the next.

I just think there is enough there that he can help us.

Has dual citizenship, his Face off % this yr is around 54% and he has been scoring on the power play.

Micheal Misa has both size and skill and an upward trajectory...

Artyom Levshunov, Paul Ludwinski, & Joey Anderson all seemed to be healthy scratches for the game but were available for postgame interactions with fans

Interesting Bread.

Those 3 being brought up? 2 forwards and 1D going the other way?

I like Misa, if he’s their BPA when their turn comes up, I’d be fine with that. I also like Norris, however his shoulder injury history is definitely a concern. Would he be on the trade market without the past injuries?

Since I’m seeing trade proposals all over the place, how about Jones and Hawks 2026 #1 (top 3 protected)for D Cozens? The Sabres have been looking for a RD for Power for a couple of years.

Oof. Is Cozens really worth that much? Once big year two years ago, and around (currently under pace) for 0.5 PPG the last two years. Also carries a $7M price tag. Not saying he wouldn't be an upgrade over a lot of what we have, but I'd think you'd only need to add a late round pick to Jones to even that trade out.

Interesting to hear this considering many were eager to draft him (Rosner is the beat reporter for the Isles):

Stefen Rosner
@stefen_rosner
By the way, for full transparency. If a potential deal happened between #Isles and #Canucks, I was told that VAN isn’t interested in Eiserman. Do with that as you may.

You add a young forward and you subtract Jones, that will cost. I’d love to get Elbows take on this one, he’d probably drive Jones to the airport.

If they are trading for Jones to be a RD partner for Power, the implication is that they value him. Otherwise, I'd assume they'd find a cheaper/better option.

Also, the Hawks would be adding a young forward who has had what currently appears to be a fluke season surrounded by mediocrity on a $7M salary. Just because he's younger doesn't necessarily make him better.

Wow, a little line shake-up:

Bertuzzi -Bedard- Mikheyev
Foligno - D!ckinson - TT
Dach - Nazar - Reichel
Hall - Donato - Maroon

Martinez - Jones
Vlasic - Crevier
Allan - Kaiser

(That's right! Looks like Brodie is scratched)

It's about (frank)ing time.

Hopefully Jones is next

We can easily lose games with Jones not on the lineup like we are because he's on the ice.

Ha! Nice. I'm just hoping to see Reichel do something while playing with skilled linemates. My expectation for him is quite low, but just be a guy that can carry the puck in and not just throw it away (although most of the team does this).

Works for me, hope that kid line gets at least 13 minutes tonight, they were only on the ice for 28 minutes in total as a line last game.

I'm all for them trying that kid line again, which really was the 4th line, even if they get listed as "3rd" they got the lowest minutes. Hopefully they can start to generate a bit of chemistry and chance with the young legs.

Man, at some point we need help on depth for the D, because we still only have 2 guys who should be playing top 4 and that's Jones/Vlasic.

-Martinez isn't an NHL top 4 anymore or is borderline for maybe being a 4th man on D.
-Crevier, while he can defend okay and do the basics, is still a 6/7th guy. Not that he is bad, but limited ceiling if we are being realistic.
-Allan maybe will be a second pair guy someday, but right now, fits way better as 3rd pair as a rookie.
-Kaiser, seems like a good 3rd pair guy, but again, I think that's his ceiling based on what he has shown.
-Brodie shouldn't be in the top 4.
-Murphy when healthy is kind of borderline like Martinez.

Long term, I know at some point it's expected that guys like KK, Lev, Rinzel will help fill out the top 4, but we sure have a lot of 5,6,7 guys right now. It's going to make it tough to push for more wins with this kind of D depth.

Not that the overall depth isn't progressing, but just we have a pretty good gap still between where we are and where we need to be.
