KK is an AHL Allstar, our fastest defenseman, will likely grow into a 6'-3" body and near NHL ready. Remind me again why we're trading him. - rpeters01
Every site I’ve seen has KK at 6’ 1”, and he may be near NHL ready. But my question was hypothetical,
If the Hawks were to luck out and select Schaefer, Levshunov could become one potential trading chip. Would it be possible to trade a Levshunov, a Rinzel, Korchinski or whomever to get right back into the mix for a 2 to 4th choice overall for a crack at Hagens, Misa or Martone? Assuming of course one of those picks are ranked equal to or higher than what they give up.
If the Hawks were to draft Schaefer do you think they should just keep all of the defensive prospects? |

Oh, I’m sure that more of the 3rd round picks make the NHL vs 5th round picks. The comment wasn’t meant literally, however the fact is that odds are against those picks making it in the show. There are always outliers, but those are few. That’s why I would not trade Donato for a third, get a second or sign him for two-three years at a reasonable contract. TBH, I’d rather have Donato than Foligno, but that’s just me. - Angotti

NHL coaching is definitely more robust than a junior coaching staff. But each is there to provide a different thing. NHL coaches are there to try to win, not to teach players the basic fundamentals. In this post you cite many intangibles. He learned the speed and physicality of the NHL, yet he didn’t demonstrate either. Him learning to live alone in a city, something he could have learned as a 20, 21 or 22 year old. NHL coaches taught him him how to look after his body et all, true but that information can and is conveyed to drafted junior and college players.
What tangible things did Korchinski learn from playing in the NHL last season? I already acknowledged his defensive play improved marginally. I didn’t see any reason for him to be in the NHL last season especially when that experience didn’t help him make the team this season. What tangible thing(s) did you see him improve on?
I think Korchinski simply wasn’t ready to leave junior. He wasn’t physically ready and there were/are big holes in his game at the time. Korchinski’s time in the NHL saw him play horrid defense, saw him play a very apprehensive, timid game and because of a terrible supporting cast, the skill that made him attractive to the Hawks, his offense, was non existent. And one of Korchinski’s strongest attributes coming out of junior was his hockey IQ, because he was playing scared that IQ was never evident.
Very few players can make the direct jump to the NHL and most of them have many difficulties. Korchinski was never that player to make the jump as a 19 year old. Without factoring in his physical deficiencies (aka size and strength) he simply wasn’t good enough defensively to be in the NHL. And playing for a team bereft of talent did him absolutely no favours.
All that said I can’t wait for KK to play regularly in the NHL, when he’s ready. - paulr
All fair points. Would it be fair to say you didn’t like the risk of severely hurting his development by being in the NHL too early versus minimal development returns for being in the NHL too early? Or something like that. I’m a lawyer so risk analysis makes sense to me.
Excited for KK. Love offensive dmen. So long as they are average in their own zone. Just makes the attack so much more dangerous.
Makar is my fav nhl player right now (def better than avg in his own end too). |

Liked what I saw from Dach but he hit a bit of a wall. Someone get him a skating coach or strength trainer please. He falls more than any hawk in recent memory. |

All very skilled at it. Dach just seems worse. Skating around the net blowouts.
Might need some Prevagen. I do enjoy a nice night time joint on occasion. |

I'd flip Levshunov (RD) for Byram right now straight up. Idk what a blockbuster would look like for Cozens/Byram and I doubt Jonesy would waive his NMC to go to Buffalo but if there's a coaching philosophy that Jones would do well playing under it's Lindy Ruff's. Also think they need to sell high on Crevier. That giraffe is going to continue to get beat up unless he develops a mean streak. - Assman22
That's crazy, not a chance. |

Do you remember Andrew Shaw playing well in Chicago, forgetting what got him there then getting sent down to Rockford? This happened a few times before Shaw came up and played his game on most nights. Dach was really engaged his first few games in a Hawk sweater then started getting away from it. He stopped his physical game, he stopped going to the net, getting into puck battles etc.. Im sure when he was sent back to Rockford he was given instructions on what gets him back. I’m sure he’ll be back soon and hopefully he’ll do everything he can to stay in Chicago. |

My last 15 years before retirement was in IT risk assessment, so yes I’m somewhat wired that way. What happened with KK is water under the bridge, my point was his promotion was premature factoring in his size, strength and defensive acumen and that it’s vital not to promote young players before they’re ready. Korchinski seems pretty level headed and seems to have taken his demotion in stride and by all accounts is working on the weaker aspects of his game. What happens to the next guy who’s not as level, or is driven by ego, how does he handle a demotion like that?
Very few teenagers are ready to play in the NHL. I think it’s best to follow a process to ensure players are prepared for the nest level.
In the mid 80s I played summer hockey with a then Bruin player named Dave Reid, a solid bottom six forward. One of the things he talked about was how the biggest step in hockey was going from the minors to the NHL. He said going from junior to the NHL was almost impossible. |

Except for the fact that he's been able adjust quite well to a new league every year for the past three years, including moving to a new country as a 17 year old. Indeed, he's a bit raw, but the majority of reports on his indicate that he is a very quick study and his defense seems to always improve as the year progresses. - Chunk
Yes but most of your sentiments point to low hockey IQ which is accurate any way you slice it. Apples to apples. |

Dach plays the way he did first 10 games or so he is going to be a good middle six physical presence. The few games when he was on a line with Nazar he was a beast.
Agree 100% he stopped playing physical aggressive style. Chasing the play too.

I like him. Hope he works on a few things and the next time he’s called up he doesn’t get sent back down bc he’s earned a permanent spot. |

Levshunov's hockey IQ is arguably much worse - Assman22
A big man who knocks everyone down, I will take a flyer on him growing more game, and that is why they wanty him exposed up here in practice.
You need to let go, and watch him becoem a dominant player., not talk poop.

I came into his promotion with prejudices, especially his feet, but he HAS played really well here, and need more experience before we thumbs up or down on him...
