6'2" 210 lbs, yeah, I think he is the biggest one.

Boisvert and Spellacy have the body type to be similar.

How is that possible, i've read that he's a clear bust, frowns alot, and doesn't put the work in

- vabeachbear

Not after we traded for his bosum buddy totally new player.

I listened to the whole segment. The interesting thing he said was that there will be a lot of guys fighting for the same spot--> Boisvert and Moore (3C), Lardis and Kantserov (1W). These were just examples and he wasn't pigeon-holing these kids into spots, but there are so many similar traits that they will have competition to make the team.
- Chunk

Boisvert and Moore you hope play one more college year and then ready for the "A". Two college years are perfect but I think Moore needs a 3rd. Not sure but it's possible Rinzel turns pro after this season?

The Hawks had a lot of top draft talent on their cup teams. Kane and Toews top 5 picks. Laad was a top 5 pick. Seabs 14th overall. Hossa 12th overall. Cam Barker 3rd overall (I know he was traded and not a good pick in hindsight but it was another top 5 lotto ticket). Hawks also got lucky with lower picks.

To win you need top end talent. That usually means high first round draft picks. Hawks have Bedard and Lesh right now, with Lesh being an unknown. Another top 5 pick or close to it is a necessary part of the rebuild imo. I also think trying to get another top 10 pick next year is a good move too but that depends on how quickly the young guys are developing. The top 10 lotto tickets hit far more often than the 3rd or 4th round lotto tickets.

Hawks then probably need to bring in 1 or 2 high end talent guys and get lucky on a few lower picks.

- bhawks2241

Kane was a #1 pick. You rarely get a shot at those guys. We've probably had ours for this time around but KD agrees with your logic. First round or bust. If you think you're smart enough to find the 7th round Bufglyien's you're just fooling yourself. Odds say you get lucky once in a while with 2-4 rounders.

- rpeters01

Yes, and he says that the position he wants to play, but he's played wing occasionally at Windsor. He said it was to get experience there so that he can be more well rounded.

At some point I'd love to see the Hawks find guys that are surefire centers. Bedard is surprisingly getting better both defensively and at FO's. Greene I think is for sure a center. Boisvert likely a C. Nazar, Spellacy, Moore, and a few others are probably question marks as far as position right now.

Presumably, unless something drastic happens, we will have our 3rd top 5 pick in 3 years. Are those 3 draft picks plus the other 1st rounders and other prospects enough of a talent pool that the Hawks can go spend money and try to be around .500 next year? aka the next phase of the rebuild or does the talent pool need another top 5 blue chip prospect, which means another season of losing next year.

If we didn't get lucky with Bedard, I think that answer is another year of losing.

Which young d-man would you say they'd most likely move out with him to get back a young forward? If it's me, it's likely Kaiser or Crevier and I'd rather it be Crevier between the two. Feels kinda like they've been churning up his value by keeping him up as long as they have and he typically plays with Vlasic. Regardless, we'll have to see how he comes back from the concussion because he's been out a minute now.
- Assman22

One of the two you mentioned plus Allan, although I’d hate to see one of them go, it’s inevitable that one or two of the young guys will eventually get traded.

After this top 5 pick, they better not be in position to do it again unless they are 10th and win the lottery.

I'll tell you what, if CBUS has an internal cap that they can't/won't go over and Voronkov is made available, I would consider making a huge push to get him. Huge Russian (could be Arty's friend in the bigs) who plays heavy and scores.

It's amazing how perceptions of these kids change as they get more experience. Kaiser was playing so well, then hit a wall. Crevier was a newborn Giraffe last year, and has learned a mean streak (although I think he's pretty close to his ceiling). EDM is showing well. Allan played a ton then hit the wall. KK had his year last year. D-men take a while.

Last season 34% of the players who played in the NHL were 1st round picks. Over 50% were 1st and 2nd rounders.

And a deeper dive 74% plus and minus of the kids drafted in the 1st round make up the 34% of the league, and 33% of the kids drafted in the 2nd round make up about 17% of the league.

The talent pool is still years away. But that wouldn't stop me from signing a few long term players. Can we convince them to sign in Chicago is the problem.

Sullivan if let go by penguins or Cooper if Tampa decides to move in a different direction, which would be foolishness, carle from Denver be my three choices

Moore one season, Boisvert more likely two. Boisvert’s got a long ways to go and Moore could work on his scoring with Snuggerud out of the way.

I wish the timing was better with his contract. Even then, I wouldn't blame him if he wanted to stay in Tampa after that. Paid his dues for years before getting called up to coach in Tampa, and only missed the playoffs in 2017. https://www.hockeydb.com/...s/pdisplay.php?pid=120858

Non-Retread David Carle from DU-Won everywhere, likes offensive hockey.

Partial Retread Todd Nelson coached Oilers for 51 games in 14. Won everywhere he's been. 5 Championships. Coached Hersey for the past 3 years, won 2 Championships and those players are now in Washington with the 2nd best record in the NHL. Can coach, can teach, can develop. This is who I wanted when they signed Richardson. Team would be much further along.

Full Retread Cooper or Bednar if available. I think Cooper is rock solid at all aspects and won everywhere. Bednar might get dumped if they lose early. Maybe his record is inflated by Makar and McKinnon but every time I watch Colorado I like their style. Of the out of work Retreads-Don Granato. 100% biased here because I know him a bit and have listened to him talk about the league for years. I've never heard a guy talk about hockey with more passion and more sense than Granato. If Adams had signed a couple of solid Dmen 2 years ago, I think Buffalo could be in the same place as Ottawa, banging on the door for playoff spot and Granato would be in the running for runner up to Carbery for coach of the year.

From The Board, Wiz. Would love to see NHL guys trying to make sense of his instructions.
