My theory on why Bedard with Donato and Maroon, or Kurashev with Bertuzzi and Nazar, or playing all the veteran Ds is that they would be showcasing anybody who is tradable. Only five more games before the deadline!

I've thought about that but these are vets. Known commodities around the league. Nothing these vets do in the next couple of weeks or what they did in the month before the break are going to really change how other teams front offices view them.

Guess we will find out. Hopefully, a few are sent packing

I noticed they paired McCabe with Seth Jones leading up to his trade. Even if these players are known commodities, playing them with the best players in the lineup takes away any lingering questions, for better or for worse.

Pretty hard to watch right now . I am just not sure anymore what the long game is .Seems mixed message .I really would not mind seeing the team being sold to a owner who gave a poop .Everthing starts at the top . I miss Rocky . I think the Beach grabage left the Wirtz family scared , and fearfull to make a big move, or really do anyhing .Time to restore this great frachise ,sweeep clean and get real hocky people into positions to make the right call. I know for one ,I am not confident in KD to do the right thing in the Jones deal

What is the "right thing" to do with the Jones deal?

For that matter, KFC is doing what everyone wanted Stan to do, rebuilding. It's not easy see the genius in Detroit. He's considered a "real hockey person."

This is what rebuilding looks like. We're about to get hit with a wave of young players. It will take years for them to matriculate to the NHL and then grow from boys to men. Patience grasshopper.

More of a real hockey player . Need proven GM or coach with a solid history in the keague . I think it will take New onership to look outside the Hawks little family of yes man .

You don't think Yzerman is a real Hockey Player GM? How long did you think this would take? Hate to break it to you but we're still tanking, early stages of the rebuild.

I don't think Chicago will retain much if any on Jones. They still have other guys to trade like Martinez, Maroon, Murphy etc. And only one retainage spot left. Perhaps, hence the 3rd team with Jones? Nobody knows but we will soon. Until then expect the crazy line combos and D pairings. I want Crevier back up with Vlasic.

Probably easier to move Jones this summer, as well as Murphy, when they will get back all three retention slots. Plus, Dallas will have a lot of money freed up for Jones, assuming they don't extend their expiring contracts. The Hawks will probably have to retain on Martinez for that last slot this year. Maroon has a cheap contract. Someone will probably want him for the playoff push.

I think Martinez is the easiest and most likely to be moved with retainage as well. Murphy could be buyout this summer? Jones, I just don't see KD retaining for four years or whatever it is? Will take two to tango.

How about the hawks send Mrazek with Seth Jones (1/2 cap) to Colorado, for Ross Colton and Callum Ritchie?

Very doubtful.

Maybe they tarde Jones to the Canucks and take Belarusian Danila Klimovich in the return. He has had with big injuries and has never gotten untracked as the dynamic sniper we saw before his draft year. Artie will have another person to talk to in Rockford from home...

I do think Stevy is a great hockey player ,sometimes great players don;t make great coaches or GM .Steve always seemed more like a figure head then worrking GM . I also think Davidson believing that what he brought in this year was going too signifantly inprove the team was fanciful at best .It also to me shows he thought his rebuild was far ahead of schedule, and was not planning to be tanking. A rebuild cannot be just the draft ,it must include shrewd trades and FA sighings.

It would be cheaper to retain half on Murphy and get future considerations than it would be to buy him out, I just checked. A buyout would mean they couldn't even get that. Unless they are that desperate to reach the salary floor. Going through the roster, there are some real buyout possibilities there, mind you. There could be some pretty interesting decisions to make this summer in that regard.

I could definitely see them retaining on Jones. That full cap hit is a lot for any team, and he's a lot more attractive at half the cap hit.

I like to see Jones go to Dallas with 2 mil retained . Hawks recieve Stankoven (healthy scratch last night ) and 2nd in 26 . Jones also has roots there .

We're not signing any front line players yet. They simply won't come here until we're farther along. We're just starting to have something to trade. A log jam of young defense men. Draft picks don’t bring a whole lot back. Every time somebody here mentions trading our likely top 3 pick this year, the rest of the board says "I'm not trading the pick for that." Stevie Y built Tampa he's no figure head.

I will have to take your word for it on Stevie ,he din't win any cups in TB .And really not hard to get players down there, with the tax laws and weather working for ya .Detroit is showing promise, ever since they changed the coach. I am not in a rush ,just hope it being done correctly. Davidson for some reasson does not inspire confidence in me .

I've not seen any mistakes Davidson has made. It's to soon to tell how well he and his scouts are doing but to me it looks promising.

There should be sufficient interest at half the cap hit to where they can get a better return. Unless he really is Dallas or bust. At this point, I would think he just wants to play for a contender during his prime years, and not necessarily Dallas.

So his temper tantrums this year about the Hawks not trying hard enough and not winning enough games? Is that him pretending?

KD said the plan this year was to win more games, bring in more vets to stabilize the roster, and play more competitive hockey. Bertuzzi is up and down.

TT Maroon Smith Brodie Martinez (has some good nights).... pretty bad.

Not winning more games. Not playing more competitive hockey. Head coach launched b/c the team was apparently underperforming. So, was KD wrong about the quality of vets brought in? Or was he wrong to expect more wins and more competitive hockey?

I agree the rebuild is pretty early on. KD has sung a different tune though. Seen him place blame on everyone but himself and the front office so far.

When I saw the moves they made in the off season I always thought what he was saying was simply lip service. Launching the coach was more likely him wanting to see/try a different style of play. When you're really bad, like the worst, adding a few middling vets does not the needle move. You're still really bad. A few of us here thought that before the season began.
