Yes You can!

I think it is Knight's net to win, and in order for Kyle to win, he has to get an offer before the deadline to take Mzarek.
Gajan has shown very little upside so far, and I would like to see stick around.
I am not sure how Brossoit comes off the books, with the rocky road to recovery in the 2025-26 Cap hit $3,300,000 IF he healthy & does suit up.

I just hope Söder sticks around, but I just not so sure Kyle from Chicago can get his boss to agree to an extension on a 4th goalie.
Buying both Brodie and Brossoit out this summer would result in a $5M hit next year and a $1M hit in 26-27.

I think the rebuild looks like it started now, after the Spence was #1 star and said that things were changing.

Even though we have TEN forwards signed, it seems like resigning Donato might get be in the cards and the replacement for Maroon if he signs elsewhere.

Just won NCHC rookie of the week.

Now if Gajan Strings a second week into player of the month, and well, that's a start...

Terrific to hear about GAJAN winning the weekly honor, Chuck;now he has to string multiple weekly honors to a player of the month, and etc.

Bedsy’s fall to ordinary non-factor is in fact a true sophomore slump. You know in his first season, he got an injury time-out from contact
You don’t need to see that competing against older bigger guys who have learned body maintenance and have routines to be fit for the rigors of so much weekly contact. He may not be injured at all, just not happy. At some point a personalty has to emerge and display less tightness in his on-ice demeanor. Maybe what I see is teenager who cannot feel things clicking for him out there…and just not up to doing more (he has done as much as he was able) and just playing the string out and come back to be better next season, because he HAD to see a team with him there tonight, even when he was knocked down and around.

Great debut by Knight. Going to post a write up from the Athletic that talks about some of the finer points of his game but also mention how ridiculously easy he made that 2 on 0 save in the first. Looked like he barely moved.

To take a closer look at Knight’s game, The Athletic’s goalie expert Jesse Granger broke down Knight’s play during his Blackhawks’ debut.

Granger: Knight’s superb puck tracking and mental processing were on full display in his Chicago debut. The Kings applied heaps of pressure in the opening minutes, but Knight stood tall and did an exceptional job following the puck through chaotic situations.

The first example came on this sprawling stop on Warren Foegele’s rebound attempt. Watch how quickly Knight finds the puck after the knuckling shot from the point bounced off his glove awkwardly.

Not only does he find the puck immediately, but there’s very little lag time between finding it and reacting. His processing speed is really impressive here. Knight has already rotated his hips back toward the post and begun his butterfly slide before the puck even gets to Foegele’s stick. Those milliseconds he shaved off that movement ended up being the difference between a save and a goal, as he just barely got a piece of the shot.

Knight robbed Foegele again later in the period and again showed off those puck-tracking skills. First, Knight stuffed Foegele’s initial drive. The way he slides across calmly and efficiently without losing balance is a great example of the movement skills Ellis mentioned.

Maybe, maybe not, it's a good thing Kyle has all those picks. You never know, good thing we have EDM, Vlasic, Allan just to name a few

Part II

The first two saves were made with sound technique and balance. Then Knight turned into an athlete, swiping the puck out of mid air just before Phillip Danault could get his stick on it. The key to it all is he never lost visual attachment to the puck.

Finally, this sequence of saves later in the first period shows off a lot of what makes Knight an elite talent. He again tracks the puck well off his body after stopping a wobbly slap shot by Kings defenseman Edmundson, and his reaction to the rebound is technical perfection.

First, the speed at which Knight recovers to his edges is absurd. He pops up with both feet simultaneously, which saves time, and has already dug the toe of his right skate into the ice preparing for movement before the puck has even bounced on the ice a second time.

That quick recovery sets him up to attack Foegele’s rebound attempt rather than simply stretching or sprawling on his side. Knight stays on top of the puck, crowding it with his glove and body positioning — which is all working toward the puck throughout the save — while he seals the ice with his left pad.

This level of technical precision in what could easily become a messy scramble situation is exactly why Knight is touted as a future franchise goalie. His processing speed is clearly improving as he gains NHL experience, which bodes well for his development moving forward.

You see a 5-1 score, you never think goalie win. But you watch the highlights you have to say it was a goalie win.

Possibly Kaiser on the left side as well. Lev looking more like at least one of their future top pairing guys and Rinzel developing nicely, I think takes some pressure off the idea that KK has to hit as a first pairing dman.

KK might still develop for us but also wouldn’t be surprised to see him in part of a package to get a young fwd, especially with the emergence of some of these guys like Vlasic and now possibly EDM as well.

If KK stays, he's maybe 3rd pairing LD. Might be best to package him.

Way way way way to early to make that assumption. Way to early, that's how rebuilds dissipate when you don't let the player define who he is.

As of now, I would keep Vlasic, EDM, Rinzel and Levshunov, these four are keepers. I’m not saying that we should trade the others, however for the right return they should all be available. I know that there are some Murphy haters here, but Murphy does his job and they need one reliable vet back there. What a great game by Knight, the Hawks seem set there and on defense for years, and if the get Schaefer, oh man.

I noticed one play by Knight where he fired an outlet pass past center ice that reminded me of Turco. A nice bonus to have on top of the stats he had last night.

Buying out Brossoit would be cheap, but I'm not sure what the rules are on buying out a guy who's missed the season due to injuries.

Then it's going to come down to between Mrazek and Soderblom for the other goalie spot. Guessing trading Mrazek will have to wait until summer. He might still be dealing with the injury. And the Hawks have no retention slots left. Soderblom could conceivably be moved now or summer.

AA scored last night, but it's probably not enough to move him, not without retaining half, and they can't do that. I don't see Martinez being moved given the cap hit, either.

That leaves us with Donato, Maroon, and Craig Smith. Donato would obviously get the best return, but I hope they sign him. I gather it's up to Maroon as to whether he goes or not. Smith was injured at the time I heard that, so I don't know if that applies to him, also.

Very hard to do when you’re double and triple teamed. When Chicago has more scoring threats no one will be able to double teamed him. He should probably always have Donato on his line this year.

He had a golden opportunity all by himself in front of the goalie and couldn't bury it. Which is fine these things happen, i liked with the lead where someone stole the puck from him and he came back and stole it right back. He even blocked a shot in the game.

He tries to weave and dance in the zone and he's just not strong enough to do it, he's close but another year or two he'll make the defender pay for being too aggressive and they will eventually back off of him

Especially leading up to this trade deadline, Moving AA isn't really an issue. They barely have 12 healthy forwards at the moment. Foligno, Kurashev and D!ckinson are not coming back tomorrow, so you need him in the lineup. After the TDL, they can just sit guys. They obviously don't have any issue waiving him, so they can do it again.

I think best odds are that Martinez and Maroon stay (not a fan of Maroon)

Smith could go simply because he's cheap and can still actually play hockey. Reminds me of a better version of Carpenter. I don't think Donato moves unless someone either offers a really good prospect or a 1st. He's worth more to the Hawks than a 2nd.

The goalie situation will be the most interesting to watch. They can get a third party to take some retention on Mrazek. I'd love to see them be able to go with Soda and Knight down the stretch.

I still can't believe KD made this trade. What a great great trade i kept thinking to myself how is he going to get rid of him he's the final piece he needs to get rid of so he can grow the rebuild.

Don't know if anyone saw the interview with Knight the kid sure seems to be extremely excited to be here?

Man this is a move that Minnesota pulls off.

Shocked haven't heard from the KD bashers?

A lot depends upon if the hawks select firts with the best player being a left side defender who projects as a net attacker.

It is fortunate that Korchinski didn't wilt up and die after his rookie season...thrown in far above his comfort level, losing his father, and then asked to reset in the minor pros.
A lot of growth may still be on the way.

After all the hubbub on Vlasic's growth and extention, you still see he isn't close to finished in his growth, still making youthful judgements out there, even alst night.

I do like the relaxed way all the kids approach their big league games fearless.
Is that b/c the current NHL coach was their coach in the "A"?

Now maight be the period where KDavidson mustn't get impatient with this young player assets on defense.

I know that you’re probably half joking, but I’d rather sign him this summer. The Hawks for the most part have been hard to watch, we deserve a top three pick, make our improvements over the summer. I’ll always root for them to win, but under these circumstances, I’d also want a top pick.

We'll see, another pro would be welcome, if we do end up with Boeser then i think he either needs to sign a quality FA or a sign and trade for a young forward. At least that's my wish and would make this team even better than it is now.

Then again i think this team is already better with the subtraction of Jones.

Great take wiz.

I just took a look at some of the Hawks advanced stats on D. Vlasic is really having a down year. His best partner is Murphy by a fraction. I think he's trying to do too much instead of just concentrating on being a defensive monster. I get that he kind of has had to this year, but it's not his best usage.

The kids all seem to have some strong points to their games, but need to become more complete. The good news is that they have time to get minutes in now with Jones gone and Anders apparently now more willing to sit Brodie.

It's not way too early to do so as you have to in order to analyze who you want to trade in a package for a forward if that's the route they take.

If Chicago can land Schaefer it’s extremely likely one or two of their defensive prospects will be moved to try to acquire a young forward.

I don't think they can buy out Brossoit until he is healthy. I don't know that they would want to. They could just send him down the AHL if needed. If you lose him to waivers, problem solved. There will be teams looking for goaltending that will be interested if he gets playing regularly again.

For what it's worth, Gajan was just named NCHC rookie of the week. It can be a long development road for goalies, interesting to see what we have long term.
