One thing is clear no one wants to resign in Carolina.

Even though KD missed on Brodie, how does Carolina not resign Teuvo, he's such a good hockey player.

- BetweenTheDots

Letting TT go for them was an easy decision. They have other guys coming up, who were better, than needed to be paid.

Not taking anything away from TT, but this is exactly what KD is going to have to do when/if the Hawks are good. Let go of guys that are good players when you have younger (cheaper) options coming in.

Friedman is reporting there’s a deal in place, waiting for Dallas to see if they can work out a deal with Rantanen.
- paulr

Yes, just a different way of saying what Dreger said. There's a deal in place but waiting for extension or the deal doesn't happen rendering "deal in place" moot

You read that he wasn’t going to Dallas? My understanding is that Dallas is working on an extension pre trade.
- Angotti

Have read the same. Also, couple places are reporting the Hawks are trying to work on a deal to sign Donato. I’d be fine with that.

Looks like Knight and Soda split the net for back2backs and I believe Knifht gets the net this evening.

Apparently, if the Hawks can't agree to an extension with Donato, they will move him (per Pagnotta). They are also listening on Pat Maroon.

And Teuvo

Unlike most here, I'd like a Boeser signing and another quality hockey player signing. Preferably trade and sign a young top 6 forward.

The 3rd line is pretty much set for next season

Boeser, Teuvo, Bertuzzi, ????

Bedard, Nazar, Slaggert, Dach

Obviously they are grooming Reichel to be a 4th line center, hahaha

Starting to take shape, AA, Kurashev, Smith and Maroon gone.

I actually hope KD doesn't trade any of the vets on defense, unless it's Brodie but we all know that ain't going to happen. We are really thin there.

I would hope they move Rig but the return is gonna be next to nothing sooooo doesn't matter that much I guess unless they can package Donato/Maroon together to max the return. Let's hope they can extend Donato.

I've been on the Boeser train for about three months. I even floated Boeser and Ehlers, but not sure if they'd go that route.

Depending on who is brought in and the other kids who are signed, I wouldn't quite pencil in Dach. He's had some really good moments, but like with many kids, the consistency isn't there.

saw the same thing...Dallas only willing to go up to 12 AAV

What do we feel is a good price for Donato IF they extend him?

I think he's going to get the standard 3 to 4 years about $4.5 per

It's the fine line of going "all in" and using all assets to go for it vs keeping some in the barn to manage the cap. Especially when you start paying your "core" high end dollars.

Not sure what is happening in Carolina but it's very odd to say the least. Team seems to be mandated by ownership to always be in the "win now" mode like Tampa, Florida and Vegas. Likely because all 4 aren't true hockey markets.

Vegas is up there for me with Toronto. Wouldn't mind see them getting waxed come playoff time.

UGH.....not sure I would do that. I know he's having a great year, and yes we have TONS of cap space but does anyone here buy he just figured it out at 28, soon to be 29 and can duplicate 20+ goals a year especially as this team gets better and he slots down to say a 3rd line role which is what he truly is on a playoff contender?

If Davidson can get a 1st or even a 2nd or a very good prospect IMO....I'd take that and run vs paying Donato north of 3 AAV.. 3 years TOPS

WOnder if somebody will come in and swoop up Craig Smith as well. Good depth player for a cup contender.

I had a gut feeling of like 3x3.5M or 2x4M at most. He is decent because he can move around the lineup, but he isn't going to likely match this season, mostly because he will start to get bumped down the lineup more often as the Hawks depth improves. Less Opportunity = Less Production = Less Value.

I thought for sure someone would want him given his nose for putting pucks in the net is still evident when chances are there. He scored a fair bit given his limited chances this season.

Too much both in dollars and term. He’s coming off a career season in a contract year. What usually happens with a player like that the next year? Whatever the contract is it has to be tradable. 4 years at $4.5M is very hard to move especially if he doesn’t have the same production next year.

I'd rather this without an NTC than less money with an NTC attached. That's what did in Stan. Learn from your predecessor's mistakes.

I’d be real leery of overpaying Donato as well, good depth player having a career year.

I kind of feel like whatever with Donato, id rather he put that money towards a proven scorer like Boeser.

Anthony Beauviller just a 2nd pick in return.

You have to sell on Donato. HAVE TO. that's another 1st or NHL ready prospect. Maximize the return. His value will likely NEVER be as high.

The Sabres acquiring an injury prone perimeter player, does anyone wonder why they can’t take the next step?
