Same year we picked Boqvist and then, can’t recall if we took Mitchell in that draft but none of them ever really panned out. I believe Boqvist got picked up by the Isles but injuries and not being very good at defense have never seen him rise to the level I imagine Bowman envisioned when he picked him.

I don't mind it at all. Donato is a known quantity and an actual contributor even if he isn't going to put up these kind of numbers in future years. If KD wouldn't be able to get back a close-to, or already NHL forward, it's fine they keep him.

If the Hawks aren't contending (and by contending I mean beyond just squeaking into the last playoff spot) before Rantanen is 34 or 35 (6-7 years from now) then KD will be gone and the team will likely be turned upside down anyway. You can get this team to playoff level in relatively short order (2 years) without handcuffing the cap or their assets, especially considering how much they have at the moment of each.

You are right, it is a moot point right now, but that doesn't mean that KD shouldn't be looking to add a significant piece this offseason.

100%....they have to start making some progress up the mountain. This acceptance of staying in this crater and it being "OK" is ridiculous. This upcoming year is year 4 of this rebuild. 1 to tank for Bedard+3 more in his ELC....Why not make it 10?

I am not expecting playoffs or a cup but I'll say it once more....they have ZERO LT commitments above 5 million after 4 years. They have TONS of cap space. They have TONS of draft capital. It's time to stop collecting draft picks like trading cards and start putting NHL ready young talent on the ice with a few vets sprinkled in. IF Davidson isn't pushing to get 2 picks in the top 4, IF his hockey ops identify all 3 potential Fs as game changers, OR isn't pushing to make a trade for a young F hockey ops identifies OR pushing to sign a top end F....if all 3 come up empty....he needs to be terminated by camp.

The likelyhood of them developing all 6 top F in house is slim and none. They have 1 for sure, likely 2 right now in 91 and 98. They are going to need to go outside the organization via trade and/or ufa. It's that simple.

Only disappointing part is not realizing that Donato has likely peaked as an asset. Always takes 2 to tango, but seeing Anthony Beauvellier fetch a 2nd, had to think Donato would have fetched more....

yes, would I rather end up with a combo of Martone/Misa/hagens vs Misa or Martone or Hagens AND Donato....it's a no brainer.

Said return, say even it's a late 1st, gave Davidson even more draft capital to get aggressive.

This is just playing out VERY slow, and we will see what KD does at the draft and this summer but just already preparing for another year of Bedard dragging around dead bodies and the Hawks hovering mid 50s to mid 60s and getting another top 5 pick...for the 4th year in a row.

Hope that on staff shrink is exceptional because 98 is going to need it.
