"I did the game Saturday in Vancouver... not a very good team... he looks lost... he doesn't generate anything... he doesn't have a good fit to play with... five players in the league average over a minute a shift... that needs to be cut like by a third... no pace to his game... no danger... not a threat..."

My point is they were all drafted and they were all top 10 picks. It took them about 8 years.
Bedard 1
Arty 2
KK 7
2025 pick.
4th year of picking in the top 10.
And Nazar has a 60% chance
Moore, Rinzel, Boisvert, Vanacker, 2025 first from Leafs give you a 50% chance of being pros, i like KDs odds
You've got Vlasic, Allan and Kaiser
And if Reichel is beginning to show flashes.
All those teams other than Vegas tried to build through the draft but many of them failed miserably. I just can't believe you want to abandon the rebuild already. I still think it's fun that LA traded away Faber because they were in a rush to be relevant, signed PLD then traded him away. What a mess great they will make a playoff run again, then the Oilers will probably send them home again. - BetweenTheDots
No - Nylander, Marner and Matthews were drafted 14, 15 and 16. They've been a playoff team every year since 16-17.
It's not abandoning the rebuild. It's being realistic that they need to go out and get guys like every other cup winning team has done in the last decade.
The Hawks have been awful the past 8 years. They have their guy in Bedard and one of Korchinski or Levshunov (maybe Rinzel) should be a defensive anchor you can build around.
If either of those guys don't pan out theyre kind of (frank)ed anyway so it's time to build a team because they have the center piece in Bedard and they don't need to piss away his prime years or ruin him by continuing to run him out there with rubbish.

I thought LR was the great communicator?

Taylor Hall on getting scratched Saturday:
“It was unexpected. I just didn’t know I was even close to being in that spot, really. If there were some conversations in the days leading up about my game, or if I was constantly being shown video, it would be one thing. But I was a bit surprised.”
He added that he and Luke had a conversation and are on the same page now. He is playing tomorrow against Anaheim. - LAHawk
That's one version of the tough love approach. Shock to the system, or is he still dealing with the injuries?

And what have the Leafs been missing the whole time to win the Cup, defenseman and depth.
The Hawks didn't start the rebuild until 3 years ago, not 8. Just because we could see the decline of the team doesn't mean anything to this current KD rebuild. |

The remake of Connor Bedard into a checking line winger. - LAHawk
I don't mind Bedard on the wing.
Leave him there and see if he gets going if his confidence goes up etc...
With these lines Luke is either a genius or clueless, I guess we'll find out if he leaves them together for 4-5 games. |

That is true, the crap before Kyle isn't considered ''rebuild'', the Hawks were just bad because of incompetence.
But they landed Bedard, and they have a defensive stalwart in Vlasic. And they drafted a crap ton of 1st rounders.
They should be looking to make a bold move or two, whether it is a Zegras type trade, or if one of the big FAs make it to free agency, take a swing at them, now is the time to get this crap headed in the right direction.
I don't want to hear about the salary cap. Nazar/Korch/Lev/Boisvert/Lardis/Vanacker etc...are NOT going to be getting some massive 2nd deal. If 1 of them does, it is because they are playing out of this world, so it is a win/win imo.

When an ex player with 1200 NHL games and 400 goals on his resume makes that
observation I wouldn't dismiss it. The only thing he didn't mention is that the NHL isn't a league for teenagers.
Way too much promotional crap going on around this kid right now and very little substance in his game as evidence.

Richardson owned up to not communicating enough with Hall:
"That could be part of my problem, too. Sometimes you give veterans a little bit more of a grace period. I know he’s been frustrated and I don’t want the frustration to leak too long, so it was a good time for a little setback. But for me to communicate with him, I need to get to know the player more — to see how they like to handle that. Obviously we’ve talked a lot during and after, but maybe before, it needs to be more. That’s just something that I learn about one player."
I wouldn't mind seeing Richardson getting the boot.
The only thing is,who do you replace him with? Definitely not someone in house,I'm just not sure who else is out there? |

Sorry that is a fireable offense. He's an NHL head coach, aside from hitting the line blender button, his main job is to communicate with player.
Would love to hear what he tells Bedard when he goes and pairs him with Richardson and Anderson....
Bedard needs to play better.
Kyle needed to get forwards to play with Bedard. 18 games in, the forwards brought in aren't even playing with Bedard. TT is on pace for one of his worst season. Bertuzzi, while playing a bit better, still underperforming.
This is an organizational failure. GM, coaching, and players, including Bedard.
If Bertuzzi and TT aren't the type of players that can play with Bedard, then why did we sign them? What analysis was done in the offseason to try and determine what type of forward should be signed to play with Bedard.
His development is paramount to this rebuild. Growing frustration, not from the losing, but the lack of a perceived plan, inconsistent lines, and either a lack of development plan with Bedard or the coaching staff not holding him accountable.
Unfortunately, seems like a mix of all the above.

You can’t have an entire team of the same guy. You need some size, a good amount of speed, lots of skill, some that concentrate mostly on defense, others you can coun ton to be able to generate chances on a whim.
These players come in many forms. I do t think you can say that you can’t win with “x” player. The Hawks won with Timonen FFS. And Handzus, and Versteeg, and a host of other flawed players that worked well together. - Chunk

Looking at Vlasic, Kaiser and Allen and the improvement from Jones as well Bedards overall improvement (even though we all continue to female dog about him) I think those make a good argument for him sticking around.
The complete lack of scoring talent is not a him problem. Brodie isn't a LR problem though he could bench him every night. Maciver even asked "where the goals going to come from" and that problem was not remotely addressed.
So I still think you have to give the coach a decent amount of talent before launching him. The roster problems at this stage are Kyle and the pro scouting. |

Yup
I've given Kyle the benefit of the doubt, but he didn't sign anyone that can play with 98.
The Martinez deal still can't be judged, neither can the Brossoit(since he hasn't played).
LR has also been given the benefit of the doubt until now, because he hasn't had much to work with, and he still doesn't, but...his line juggling, scratching Hall etc..are giving me the feeling he is in over his head. |

Bedard is a young player and a major part of the team's offense, but even with his talent there will be growing pains and slumps. LR is hitting the line blender a little harder than most probably would, but I think benching a player who isn't producing right now isn't a fireable offense. Hall maybe caught off guard, but he is a big boy, a professional and he knows it's not personal and it's not like he won't be back in the lineup.
Too early to hit the panic button about Bedard and the team. Up until now, LR hasn't been handed much to work with and this is the first season they actually improved the roster year over year. We still haven't brought up the majority of the young talent that has been drafted in the rebuild.
Even the young D that are on the roster right now are still very green and now with Seth Jones out, we lack any D with offensive upside to help the offense. It's going to be an uphill battle and there is even more pressure on the F group to carry the offense. Right now we have exactly one star forward and he is still a teenager. When he slumps the team really struggles, but once we have another couple difference makers in the lineup, the load on his shoulders will be that much easier to carry.
Bedard does need to be a little better, but he also has come very close a number of times in this young season. The last 4 games have been tough, he hasn't gotten his usual number of chances and shots, but that is the nature of a slump. Once he gets some more rubber on net, I don't see him staying at this 5% shooting, and the puck will find the back of the net for him a bit more and his confidence will be evident when it does. |

Agree with your post. Not panic but concern level is rising. The point of last offseason was to bring in some real NHL top 6 forwards to help Bedard, so if/when he slumps, the team can still generate offense.
It is only 18 games and hopefully things turn around but they veterans brought in during the offseason have made no difference... Kurashev major regression (or last season was an anomaly) and Hall a ghost. TT and Bertuzzi brought in to help Bedard. That is not happening. Hall here for the same reason and its not happening.
A coach admitting he doesn't know his player that well and didn't communicate with said player is a huge concern for me. Even if Hall is a veteran... what is LR doing if he doesn't know a player that well and isn't communicating to said player? What kind of communication is occurring with Bedard and the other young players?

I don’t know if Luke Richardson is the long term coaching solution for this team, maybe he is, maybe he’s not. I do know one thing, the forward group lacks talent. I’m not sure Scotty Bowman would be able to get this offense going without sacrificing defense. He has some good young defenders and they have given up 47 goals(not counting empty net goals)in 18 games, that is playoff type team defense. Unfortunately they are bottom three in the league in talent up front. They have a 19 year old that is super talented, a real good middle six 200’ forward in TT, another decent middle six forward coming off surgery, and Bertuzzi, also a middle six forward. A young 22 year old forward that seems to be improving(Reichel) and the rest are all very replaceable. Bottom line, what is the expectation? Seriously, there just isn’t enough offensive talent on this team at this point of the rebuild. Also, while the young Defensemen plus Murphy, Jones, and Martinez are playing well, none of them drive offense from the backend to help the sieves they have up front. |
