Leafs need to go spend on D with Tavares money and hope Marner’s cap hit only goes up 3 mil ish from his current one.

One of Nylander Matthews and Marner is going to have to carry his own line.

Still don’t think they would be good enough but that’s they should do b/c there is no way I see that front office letting one of them walk.

- bhawks2241

Their D is set for the next couple of season. They also have enough space to sign both JT and Marner if they want. They may need to move Domi and Kampf for some cushion but their cap isn't bad for next season.

Players are traded with NMCs all the time. Hawks just traded one. It is entirely possible Chicago isn't a team he would waive for at this time, but Boston is heading for the basement. So who knows until you try.
- Elbows15

Yes, they do get traded, but how often do they waive to go to lottery teams? The closest example I can think of is when Hammer put Arizona on his "okay for a trade" list to ensure that they could move him. Team player to the end. Seth on the other hand waived for a defending champion.

Did they address those needs Paul? Believe they did and why the won the cup a few times by tweaking guys in and out of the core.

Just keep beating that drum that miraculously some 23-25 yr old top flight player will become available but I think it's more about Marner and how they can sell him on coming here because if the reports are TRUE that they asked him to waive his NTC for Rantanen then I look forward to you complaining about Marners lack of playoff success while he puts up damn near a point a game but because a dolt like Shanahan has allowed that team to be top heavy in F only they lose....

Good luck cat fishing your next blogger with your little sewing circle. Fan boy...you are rich. No wonder this board drops in numbers by the days....

With Ekblad out Jones ended up with 28:40 TOI, he’ll be exposed with that much TOI. Jones should be a 20 minute a night defenseman. Boston beats Florida 3-2, and Pasta with two points.

Their D is okay, better than the last few years, however they still don’t have a legitimate #1 on the backend, and they’re counting on a 31 year old goalie with 106 career starts.

He is regressing 113, 110 and you said on pace for 99 this season

I'm just glad it's not going to happen and glad that Seth jones is Floridas problem now.

I'm sure Boston won't trade him because they want to make sure all their forwards are slotted properly.

Boston lost their top two centers last year (Bergeron/Krejci) and lost even more talent this offseason. His shooting percentage is about the same as it was last year. The last three years (22-23 thru 24-25) the Bruins have scored at 3.67, 3.2, and 2.7 goals/game. and Pasta's numbers are almost identical. He went from 1.37 ppg to 1.21 ppg on a much worse team.

Why do you hate context so much?

Knies is an RFA as well. They’ll have some tough decisions to make and it’ll all start with what it takes to get those three retained. They’ll sort out the rest afterwards.

Better than that- Boston's first goal came with Jonesy in the box, and their last goal - he was sorta covering someone not actually screening Bob ... and bang - in the net, just like the good old days until a couple of weeks ago. It was nostalgia writ large, to be sure.

Otoh he did get an assist - so for his 1 point he was a -1 for the night, and had a direct impact on the L.

You guys can fantasize about Pasta all you want and think this would be good for the rebuild. I just don't see it that way if he wants out of Boston and is interested in coming here then sure I'd kick the tires on him and see what shakes loose. That's the luxury of being in our position we can be picky.

This is all speculation and hypothetical. No one has any idea if he even wants out let alone would accept a trade to the Hawks. We are discussing his value and utility to the Hawks.

Your argument is that he's declining and too old for the Hawks. Mine is that relative to the performance of his team he is not declining, and he'll be 34 when his contract is up. Tavares, Marchand, Nelson, Palmieri, Duchene, Granlund are all 33-36 and high producers for their teams.

His value is not what Elbows puts out there. Korchinski alone is 8 years younger than him and if he becomes a top 4 quality dman we accelerated the decline of this team by 8 years

Most likely the top 4 pick is going to be 10 years younger than Pasta and most likely a top 6 forward or top 4 defenseman.

This is such a horrendous trade for a rebuilding franchise in my opinion.

It cost the Blackhawks so much to trade for Seth jones cause Bowman had to have him. I'm glad it's make believe because if they gave up all of that to trade for Pasta i would feel the same way. What the (frank) are we doing? And since i can't stay on point or make sense to others, or I'm missing context even though Pasta is old on hockey years I'll leave it at that, let Boston keep their effective player.

At some point, the Hawks are going to have to bring in a big-time player who is 'older' in age. Hossa was 31 entering his first year with the Hawks on a 12-year contract. Hossa also hadn't won a cup yet and had been on teams that were close (but failed).

I know this specific conversation is talk, and there is no speculation, but part of this team's process is going to be adding a player like the one being discussed (Pasta). I know it is temporary, but I am ready for them to be past the stage of paying aging veterans to serve as placeholders.

Their youth movement is fully on; they have a ton of draft capital over the next few years, and their cap space is insane. They are eventually going to add a big-time player (to two) that is in their late 20s/early 30s.

I think Florida actually did the opposite, Tkachuk wanted out of Calgary and they were able to dump 2 older players

Eichel wanted out of Buffalo

I don't think the Bolts signed or sign and traded for any 30 year olds $10 mil

Pitt did trade for Kessel but as i recall some team retained cash i think he was 28 but Pitt was ready to win now.

When did KD trade all of the other D prospects? Arty is younger than KK. Rinzel is the same age. They don't have enough room for all the prospects as it is, and they have more first rounders in the coming years.

Known quantity >>> hope.
