The rumor mill lately is that is might go up a fair bit more than projected if the players choose.

Considering the housing market is slowing down significantly in the south of the US, i smell a recession coming.

That can be one factor, but there are a lot of factors that go into it. Based on revenues from last season 6.2B, they could have had a cap approaching 96-98 M but kept it a more modest 88M. There is a limit on cap growth right now, but if they decide to remove it and go back to the 50% guideline, you could see a cap quickly exceed 100M. Based on modest revenue growth, you could see a cap soon of 103-105M.

There are negotiations between the league and the players that will impact where it goes. Do they keep holding the cap below that 50% or do they remove the limit and let it reset.

I read that Mrazek is tending to a personal matter.

So it probably means Soda gets tonight and then either the Thursday game against Flarida or Sat against Philly.

Fingers crossed he does well in these next two starts!

The NHL is always full of hope when they forecast but we'll see. I'm kind of with history here, when we do go into a recession the NHL will pull the reigns back on the salary cap like they always do.

This isn't a forecast, this is based on numbers. The league made 6.2B last season in HRR, that isn't a forecast. The only reason the cap wasn't significantly higher was because of agreement between the league and the players to limit the cap growth. The revenue for this season is a projection, but the revenue of the league was been rising every season, with the only exception being related to the pandemic.

The reigns are already pulled in, the question is do they keep them pulled in or do the players push to go back to 50-50 split.

Jim Montgomery has been let go.

Hire him KD! As a "pro scout".
And when LR loses the team promote Montgomery to Head Coach

Until the playoffs when it gets tighter and we female dog about Bedard and whomever else not being able to produce.

But you are right in that is a separate discussion and better forwards would definitely help alleviate some of the current pain.

On a high note Tab posted some good stuff from Elite prospects on Nazar, Korch and Levshunov. It sounds pretty encouraging, specifically Korch:

Since the start of the season, Korchinski has made impressive plays at the offensive blue line, but it’s his work on breakouts that has truly stood out. Absorbing pressure and protecting the puck, he has been finding middle outlets on breakouts, jump-starting his team’s offence. If he can consistently execute these kinds of pressured, controlled plays, he will reduce his time spent in the defensive zone and avoid playing to his weaknesses.

Did he say Lev's body language is improving?

Nope!

@NHLBruins
Boston Bruins General Manager Don Sweeney announced today, November 19, that the team has relieved Jim Montgomery of his duties as Head Coach.

Associate Coach Joe Sacco will assume interim head coaching duties.

Bruins are -21 GF vs GA and the $8.5M goalie has stunk most nights. Even the Hawks aren't that bad. So fire the Coach, that always fixes things.

Shelf life for coaches pretty short in the NHL.

Q had how many head coaching gigs? This is LR's first.
- rpeters01

St Louis and they were a very good team when he got the job. Was an assistant in Quebec\Colorado before hand. And was a head coach in Colorado right before coming to the Hawks went to the playoffs 2/3 years.

He made the playoffs every year in his first gig except the one that got him fired. Not dissimilar to Chicago (aside from the Cups) as his stars started declining the team kinda went to poop.

So first 10 years of coaching 8 playoff appearances, one missed and one year shortened because he was fired.

The fact that they don’t have guys like Chara and Bergeron in their prime anymore has nothing to do with it, it’s always the coaches fault. Just like LR, with all the talent on the Hawks they should be much higher in the standings.

Can't fire the players and the GM usually gets two coaching hires.

Zacha not having a great start to the year. Lindholm having a pretty bad start to the year. They gave 5 million to Zadarov lol.

They had certain expectations there though.

Yo jrs fans, heavyweight bout tonight in the OHL as London invades Kitchner, 6:00 CDTpuck drop. Both squads are in the same division and are just shy of playing .800 hockey. If you have a way of watching it it should be the best hockey tilt of the evening at any level and with the Hawks dropping the puck at 7:30 you might catch 2 periods .....

Hawk's 3rd rd pick this yr is playing in Kitchner leaving the BCHL once the NCAA announced that Major Jr kids can now play college hockey. Kid has 4 pts in 2 games since joining the Rangers... Cam Robinson gives him a mention at the OHL site in a kinda preview. https://chl.ca/ohl/video/...-in-chl-game-of-the-week/

Both the Zadorov and Lindholm contracts don't look like they will age well Both of them are 29. I guess Sweeney must have thought Lindholm could replace Bergeron.

Hasn't Sweeney already fired 2 coaches - Cassidy and Montgomery?

What’s Bruin?9

The Boston Bruins just fired their coach. The team has disappointed after loosing to Toronto in the playoffs and then a horrible start this season. The uninspired play and poor performance shows illustrates that not only is the coach not able to motivate the players, but the talent on the roster overall is just lacking. Which could be a reflection on Sweeney, Bruins GM, inability to maintain or retool a competitive team

This time in the season or at some later point during or after the season could be an opportunistic catch of top Bruins players via the trade route. Who knows what measures Seeeney may decide upon to stop his ship from sinking

I’m not advocating for KD to trade for anyone in particular. If I were Sweeney I would look at my prospects and determine whether they provide much hope and solid input in the next couple years period of time. Sweeney may or may not feel he needs to re-tool with prospects by trading one of his top four players

I am not a rumor monger but just a moment to consider what deals Sweeney could swing?

Maybe Swayman to the Kings. A goaltender and prospects coming back. Would Kings GM feel such an acquisition puts Kings in the mix to beat anyone in the playoffs?

You didn't mention UFA Brad Marchand - he needs a big fat new contract and he is only 36.

So if Soda plays well like he has been and the back up goalie we signed comes back from injury do we put Soda on waivers?

I bet he gets claimed by some team

Maybe so, but Sweeney can't do anything without President Cam Neely sticking his nose into things.

As an NHL coach Montgomery is has almost 100 more Ws than Ls including a 65 win season 2 years ago. So good coach. Bad 20 games to start this season and he is toast.

And Mike Sullivan will be next to go in Pittsburgh.

NHL is a what have you done for me lately league.

I'd put my money on Lalonde being the next to go. Stevie Y can do no wrong. Not his fault the rebuild isn't progressing fast enough.
