Nelson is my pick. Articles this morning say Sullivan wants to stay with the Pens, but is that what Dubas wants?
- LAHawk

I read that as well, however what else would he say, “no, I don’t want to coach here anymore”.

What's everyone's thought's on Tocchet? He doesn't have an extension and there's a ton of turmoil in VAN (Petterssen/Miller, Demko basically being AWOL), but he was Coach of the Year last year.

We def need a coach with NHL experience Getting a little tired of "No NHL Head Coach experience necessary" on the Job Description. And this goes for the White Sox as well.

Banford also said he wouldn't be surprised if Sorenson was replaced immediately, but that is utterly useless, who would replace him? King? Would KD pull a Pulford and come down and coach the Hawks himself ?

Everyone who said just play the kids is right IMO. Vlasic, Richardinson stated that moral was at an all time low (I thought trading Jones fixed that). Obviously the vets have tuned Sorenson out. Get the season over with, hire a head coach with NHL experience (sorry David Carle, don't think he is the right hire at this moment) that is allowed to pick his own assistants.

- LAHawk

I generally enjoy what he’s doing over there (Bamford) but also thought that comment was pretty silly.

Well, a coach with NHL experience couldn't do much worse, could they?

The Bears went that route and Ben could be awful but I’m pretty sure he won’t. Hearing him and harkening back to things The Flus would say, it’s not hard to understand why last season went so far off the rails.

That doesn't surprise me everyone is so right now, we'll see what they think in 5 years especially if this team becomes what i can see it becoming

Cracks me up. The Hawks go 49 yrs between Cups and a lot of fans can’t wait a couple more years til they get good again. Don’t get me wrong, hope they get the coach right next season and sign or trade for a couple players that make games like last night more the exception than the rule.

I think Wirtz’s ranking is in part that he’s a Wirtz, they couldn’t get the tv deal right and to your point, the impatience of fans.

Unless you want to count the covid qualifying round in 2020, Hawks haven’t won a playoff series in a decade. That’s a long freaking time for a major market team. I think fans have every right to be impatient.

Missed playoffs 7 of the last 8 seasons. Covid season being the exception.

What would be your definition of "crusty old retread"?

"You TAlkin' ta me?"

Is the need a nhl experienced coach?
like in Denver's Carle isn't?

I think Sörensen can find a different city, but Rockford would be perfect.
He soldiers through having to have one assistant that was a former Hawk head coah in Derek King, he had a couple former pros as the benchmates in Derek Plante, and morbidly ill Kevin Dean.
These bench coaches are certainly there as seasoned former pros with good ideas so you would think they are only halfway through providing smarts, since half the draftees haven't even gotten to Rockford, let alone on the NHL bench, close enough to these vet coaches to get coached.
So sign Sörensen and assign him to the Rfd Icehogs, maybe when the new head coach wants a certain guy as a Hawk assistant, a guy like Derek King graciously returns to help on the AHL side.
Like everyone here, we want a coach that uses the strengths and tailors the defense and the attack.
You gotta start in the NHL head coach job fill with someone who understands what's in the farm, college, juniors, but most important how you utilize what you are being given upon your arrival.

I don't think he going anywhere but i enjoyed that I got to watch a nice batch of TNT intermission reports and I pretty good feeling as a hockey boy, and then when he got the Canucks' head coaching job, I knew he would shake that style there, but the team, so they back step and it's his team players in the lockey, he didn't mediate nuthin' between Andersen/Miller.

I want the players understanding what they going to face game night and coach the hawk guys strengths in counter-attacking opposition skaters.

I don't even know where you coach down Arty, but the next coach inherits many more personalities than just the guys on the parent club, they get Icehogs and vet coaches to learn to win with all waiting for the "plan."

You or any other fan have the right to feel however you want. I just think when you put it into context vs the nearly five decade Cup drought we as fans experienced before (and ok really maybe more like four for me) it’s a bit silly.

Also, this board in general was largely never something you could call patient or, let’s be frank, satisfied even when the team was WINNING Cups.

Most bellyached when the team was competitive and seemed to only bask in the final moments of the Cup wins and subsequent parades. Other than that if you were a casual observer and happened into this place between 2009 and 2017 there’s almost nothing in the content here that would lead you to believe those teams were any good either. The Board of Doom monicker is well earned.

It’s true, they’ve won nothing in a decade but if you look at the decade it can be defined as the end of one era, and a pretty good one at that, that lasted another 7 years and now a complete tear down and rebuild which started 3 years ago.

Losing sucks but they committed to something that I’m pretty sure most fans wanted. With the influx of talent/youth that’s been injected into the lineup I see better days ahead. It’s probably at least one more season before we can see them truly pushing for the playoffs but as a fan I’m along for the ride. Could be worse. You could be a White Sox fan.
