Nice to see Joe Veleno score. He has been a nice addition IMO. Not more than a 4th line guy, but good pace to his game.

Good pace a decent size, considering they got rid of Mrazek’s contract, not bad. Kaiser needs to do a better job boxing out there.

The thing is, slow doesn’t always hurt you on offense, but it kills you on defense.

That's why I'm so encouraged with a player like Nazar, he flew back and went right after the second forward in the ozone and shut the play down. I believe we have more of them coming. Levshunov is getting schooled at the NHL level but that comes with the territory being so young, his foot speed is fantastic and am very excited about the possibilities he brings.

Lev has made some rookie mistakes here and there but I think defensively with his stick he is better than some of the other young guys on the team. His offensive side is already best on the roster, playing the point offensively and moving the puck around the zone. He is just more dynamic than our other D that way.

Still really early for him at the NHL level and yeah he is still learning some things, but I wouldn't be surprised or shocked if he doesn't play in the AHL again.

I do notice once in the ozone during the PP i like his instincts with the puck when to shoot it and pass it, to me the PP has the best flow to it since he's been on it. I always felt Jones telegraphed when he was going to pass and shoot.

I will be encouraged when they hire an NHL quality coaching staff instead of the Mannequin and his accessories

Man Lev got rocked! But he was right back in his feet. Bet he won’t admire a drop pass again.

Step by step, the Hawks need more NHL quality players and for the young guys to get up to speed before coaching is a real concern.

Hawks have 8 games left after the first weekend, 2 after the Championship game.

Just in case you were wanting to see some signings and players getting a few games at the end of the season.

Rinzel and Greene, haven't heard much if Moore is turning pro.

I’ve heard some rumblings that Moore might choose to go back since he’ll be top dog, and some think there is more for him to work on there. Heard from Powers and one other reporter I can’t recall at the moment.

He’s tape to tape, same with KK, that bodes well for transitioning from defense to offense . The other young defensemen are decent as well, but the aforementioned are top notch passers.
Edit - EDM hit the mental wall a few games back, he had a good game today, good to see. I still think when it’s all said and done he will be one of their six dmen.

I'd rather see him "dominate" in college than get his ass kicked in the AHL. If he's going to be a scorer he needs to play where he can score.

Was at the Blackhawk game today. These defensemen need to learn how to clear out the front of the crease. I think three of Philly's goal came off of a deflection. I loved Bedard's goal. And how about Maroon with a goal and an assist! Bertuzzi had a good game but he needs to add the mean back. Philly looked real sluggish all game. Love the effort Donato puts forth. Was hoping for the hat trick. I wore my #16 autographed Bobby Hull Sweater. My granddaughter (15 months old) had on her Patrick Kane sweater. I really can't deal with all the keep the crowd into it crap. It is just too loud in there.

Yeah, that's what I hate about watching the Hawks at Shark games. Too bad you guys are dealing with it at the United Center as well. I remember when it was just about Hockey and a little bit of music on the organ, those were the days.

No idea about anyone else, but these are the plays I miss seeing...

https://www.nhl.com/video...i-bobrovsky-6370444094112

Especially the point to the middle of the ice for little apparent reason (and less effect) - the decisive action that doesn't at all look like floundering .... and of course the puck deposited in the back of the net.

That's just some quality D work, it's no wonder Stanbo mistook Seth for a number 1 defender --- he looked just like Duncan Keith out there on that play (or maybe not so much).

The Hawks PP and PK have been some of the few bright spots this season. Getting them to be able to do things like that 5v5 is the big issue.

Just my 2 cents but I think there are reasons.

I think in some regards the special teams is more simple than 5v5. They focus mostly on one zone at a time, they know their positioning/roles better once things are "set up" and there is more clear focus on "what to do".

I feel like 5v5 can be a bigger risk to teams that lack of depth of complete players. For example, you can have a handful of good PK guys on the roster and the PK can really shine. You shelter the weak links.

Same thing on the PP, you only need a few guys who are effective at moving the puck around and a couple decent shooters to really start to generate chances.

At 5v5 the weaker links in the chain get exposed more. The proficiency in all zones becomes a bigger issue. The coaches minimize it with trying to controller the deployment and the match ups, but I think it just takes more depth top to bottom to have a good 5v5 team.

The last thing and the biggest to me is that 5v5 is much more about breakouts and moving the puck and gaining the zone. On the powerplay, moving up ice and getting setup is much easier. The other team has to respect your manpower advantage and you get the first half of the ice almost for free. At 5v5 there is a lot more resistance to getting out of your own end and transitioning. The D being able to escape with the puck is more important. Breakout passes, joining the rush, clean plays up to the center red line. This is where the balance starts to shift. The areas we are most "green" at are D and C. I think those are huge factors.
