Yeah I was hoping KD would try to acquire Holloway. And I’d love to see McTavish on Chicago but there’s very little chance. The only way I can see Knies in Chicago is if he becomes an RFA and KD outbids the leafs. But I suspect thevLeafs will lock him up long before he sees free agency.

They’ll have to choose Tavares or Knies if the re-sign Marner.

Nice game by the boys really got to see our kids hang 3 on 3 with one of the fastest teams in the league

There is a lot to like with these kids. Arty, Rinzel, Vlasic, EDM curious to see the next steps Bedard, Nazar, Moore, Slaggert and the rest of the kiddies make.

I think Korchinski improved but believe he's still to weak for the NHL.

Good lesson for kids to learn. Can’t take the foot off the gas against a team like the Avs. Something their coach and vets won’t teach them.

Watching Murphy give McKinnon space 12 feet from the net.

Rinzel PP1. Not sure it’s even close rn. Lev and Vlasic look awful running it.

The penalty killing was great. The power play was pitiful. Colorado could have set up a tent in our zone. I can't wait until this team can get more experience.

The biggest issue i have is with putting Bedard out there for a D-zone faceoff with 20 seconds left.

I agree !! . Needs to learn I guess. Fun game to watch ,thought the kids played well .Few miscues here and there by the youngsters ,overall not bad against a very good team .Rinzel looks like we may have something there . GO HAWKS !!

Right -- beat me to it ... so you have a guy averaging losing over 60% of his draws this season (between both O and D zones) ... and you got a one goal game and about 12 seconds left.

So not being a professional coach or anything, maybe it's me, but naturally you let that draw happen because ... what could possibly go wrong. . .

oh ... oh yeh... I see.

Anders, er, um ... Wednesday Thursday Friday, mate? Work it out ... if not for your sake, for everyone else's. :/

Get someone out there who has a chance of winning a D-Zone draw -and then eating under 15 seconds ... win the game.

Yeah excepttttt he's a solid ppg center (69 pts, 67 g), top 10 FO%, team leader, and up the middle they only have Matthews, Kampf, Laughton lol

CapWages UFA Projections:

Marner $12.5 mil (and could likely fetch more in this weak UFA class)
Tavares $8 mil

Offer sheet Knies for the $6.8 mil max for the 1st/3rd comp and they wouldn't be able to match it.

Played not-to-lose in the 3rd period. Problem with that silly strategy is it takes puck possession to employ it, and this team has never been able to do that for longer than 20 seconds.

If they lost Tavares it is a blow to their depth but they have more than Kampf and Laughton behind him. Domi, McMann, Jarnkrok can also lineup at C, in addition to guys like Kampf and Laughton. Not to mention any UFA depth they could target, trades or additional young forwards coming up through the system. Less ideal, but definitely not the end of the world either.

Cap wages also has Donato making $2.4 mil. For 2 years, which he would already have signed with the Hawks for their reported 3 x $4 mil. If their projections are the Bible. I believe Benn will sign with Dallas for far less than $5.5 mil. Projected.

I think teams are going to think twice about giving that kind of money to Taveras after seeing how the Stamkos and Marchessault signing have worked out (so far) forbNashville.

Last night's game is really a reflection of most of the season. Forwards need to be better, better defensively, there's no rhythm to this offense, it really shows itself on the PPs.

I always think teams will learn on UFAs but they keep coming back and doing it. I think with 32 GMs and many of them trying to prove they know something the rest don't, it keeps happening.

Growing pains for a young team. Lack of consistency and dominated badly for burst stretches. Colorado especially is a team that can turn it on with Mac and Mak on the ice and really crank up the pressure.

I think they will need to start to build some chemistry/identity now that more of the young parts are here.

I looked back 1 year ago, this was our lineup.

Bedard-Richardinson-Kurashev
Foligno-TJohnson-Raddysh
Reichel-Athanasiou-Anderson
Slaggert-Entwistle-Donato

Vlasic-Jones
Korchinski-Megna
Tinordi-Kaiser

Mrazek

Compared to last night

Donato-Bedard-Mikheyev
Teravainen-Nazar-Bertuzzi
Slaggert-Moore-Reichel
Foligno-Veleno-Maroon

Vlasic-Rinzel
Kaiser-Levshunov
Del Mastro-Murphy

Knight

Roughly 2/3 of the team is different year over year. Hopefully we can start to see some stability in the top 6 F and top 4 D. We are finally getting more parts in the NHL that should be the larger part of the foundation to build on.

It feels like we could use one more young stud up front that is a legit star player in the future. Hopefully we land that piece in this next draft.

Question is how pissed is Marner that Toronto considered trading him for Ranty? Might take $14 million for Toronto to keep him.

If they have to choose Tavares or Knies, they pay Knies. They will not let him walk.

The cap going up to $95m really takes most of the RFA targets (offer sheets) out of the picture as well as a number of UFA’s (would Bennett sign here for $2-3 million more than Florida will give? Will Boeser sign here for $2-3 million more than a contender like Carolina or even an Ottawa will offer?)

Offer a Tavares $10 to play 2-3 years here, maybe he signs.

Trades may be the only option but with the cap going up so much will not be many “cap casualties” out there (or they will be longer term players on a downward trajectory like Zibanajed (sp).

Why is this an issue? Winning the game is not the most important thing. Getting a 19 year old out on the ice in key situations so he can learn what is required of him at the NHL level is far more important.

I want Bedard out there seeing what the games greats are like in crunch time. I want him seeing first hand how hard McKinnon plays when it matters.

You learn by going up against the best. You don't learn if you're not on the ice.

I’d rather not sign Tavares, although he puts up points, he’s a liability defensively due to his speed, he’s just too slow. KD needs to make a trade and sign a FA for upfront. This is the most important offseason since the rebuild, not only does KD need to add talent upfront, he needs to choose the right coach as well, actually that should be his #1 priority.

Tavares will have to take a huge cut. Marner’s nose may be out of joint as he was asked to wave his NTC so the Leafs could trade him to Carolina for Rantenen. So he will probably play hardball with the leafs. It’s possible if the leafs bow out early they may walk from him anyway as he isn’t a playoff performer. Knies will get signed by Toronto, there’s no chance he’s going anywhere else.

Look at the detailed stats. The Hawks have slowly been improving at faceoffs, they’re no longer being outshot two or three to one every game. Their giveaways are much better and they’ve improved dramatically at take always. 80%of the defense are green rookies but are playing reasonably well. There are only two or three top six forwards on the team, two are very young and inexperienced and the other is a vet who’s having a career year. The rest of the forwards are bottom six and many don’t belong in the NHL. No idea why you pointed to the power play as a problem, this team with almost no NHL talent at forward has the ninth best power play in the NHL. The Hawks also have the ninth best PK in the league. Dots, you’re always preaching patience, maybe you should be reminding yourself.

I watched Moore in college and he was a pretty good faceoff guy. I know he doesn't have the experience but I would have liked to have seen him out there.
