Would you trade one of the defense high end prospects (Rinzel, Leshunuv, or other) and/or draft pick to Tampa for Isaac Howard rights, with the prospect of him signing and playing this fall for Hawks?
- TrueGrit

Is he appreciably better than other forwards the Hawks have in their ranks? His bio read like Lardis. Not a bad thing, but just saying it seems like we already have a couple guys like that.

Danny Wirtz is not happy with tv ratings, what a shocker. That’s what he gets for getting in bed with Reinsdorf. They need to rethink their tv strategy and come up with a better plan, or they will not gain future fans from today’s youth.
- Angotti

True, but it is not just Reinsdorf. Letting Faulkner steer the business is a major blunder as well.

I would trade Toronto’s 1st this year or Florida’s 1st next year and KK (prefer to give up Toronto’s this year). But would need permission to speak with him and try to sign him.
- Revco38

Am I the only one that thinks Kyle should keep making trades with Florida’s GM?! I mean seth for Knight and a 1st?!

Yes yes yes yes. Speed and explosiveness. He needs to be able to get separation from opposing defenders. He’s got decent speed. It just takes him 4-5 strides to reach it.

Organizational failure if Bedard is turning to Donato for advice. Not a knock on Donato at all but there should be a proven successful cup winning vet he can turn to not a retread middle 6 guy.

Hope we see a big change in Bedard’s skating. Similar to what we saw with Dcat after he focused on that during the offseason going into year 2 or 3 I believe

- bhawks2241

I really don't want to be an bumhole, but this is a horrible take. Donato was told over and over again that he wasn't fast/quick enough and that is why he wasn't going to even be more than a glorified 3rd liner. He got training in the offseason, improved both his speed and quickness and it translated into his best ever season. Sure motivation could be part of that, but to say that Bedard going to Donato is in any way a negative because he's not a cup winner is just blind. Especially since he not only improved in an area that Bedard wants to, but notably outperformed him in goal scoring - the area that Bedard wants to improve.

No. High-end D prospects have superior relative value. Howard is sub- 6 foot, injury prone, and reputation for shrinking in big pressure games (I can't say if fair or not).

Getting rid of Jones for Knight will prove to be a huge winner for hawks down the road.

So the open HC spots are:
ANA
CHI
BOS
NYR
PHI
SEA
Possibly VAN
Possibly NYI

If you are a coach that wants to step into a team that is more ready to win now, I'd say it's either NYI (if actually available) ANA, or BOS.

If you are looking at the big picture and not needing to be torn down in the next 3-5 I'd say the Hawks are the best option, with ANA a close second.

Both NY teams look like nightmares, although NYI have some cap space opening up. No idea what PHI or SEA are doing at this point. BOS has some good pieces. I think they'll try to do the same as WSH did.

With Allvin running the show, VAN looks like a crap show as well. Things are lookin up.

As much as I've liked a lot of KD's moves this year, you have to give that title to the COL GM. The guy remade almost half the roster during the season and they are a monster on the ice.

Holy crap. Someone hold Powers back. Safonov's contract is over and he is expected to be to leave AK Bars for North America. Guess we need to watch for an ELC??

I forget who went to Kane's trainer? But this kind of thing happens all the time.

Interested in what Paul might think. It seems to me there might be a move to younger coaches who can relate/motivate younger players.

Good college coaches...maybe. All the dinosaurs are out of touch these days. So it seems. Too much of an emotional aspect to coaching now a days.

Not saying it is good or bad...just interested to see if some coach or some younger player can step up and win. We have the most amazing depth of talent ever in hockey. In some places, looks a little like the NBA...great talent, but not much team success or consistency...

It seems like the thing to do these days is either go with a young coach, or a guy that hasn't necessarily had a ton of success in earlier stops (Hynes, Green, Carbury, etc). I think there is something to the "old guys can't relate" angle, but I don't think it's quite as big as some make it out to be.

Depends on the cap, injuries, how certain players are doing that year, what players were available in the offseason vs during the season...

Ideally, sure, but it's never that straightforward.

Amazing night and day difference with Dubois alone is a major help for them.

Thompson becoming consistent in net is a big help too.

I hope KD steers clear of the retread coaches the Boudreau‘s, the Laviolette‘s, the Tortorella’s and the like.

In the unlikely event Jon Cooper becomes available I’d like to see him in Chicago. The best of both worlds, a progressive thinking coach who seems to relate to young and older players.

All I have read is the guy who may be a really good choice would be David Carle. Because he hasn’t coached in the NHL could he be viewed as a risky pick?
