They have improved since Torts and Shaw has come here. There is no way you can deny this.
- jd250

They have a below average d core. You said so yourself. That is all that matters. Marginal improvement isn’t any great shakes.

You continue to overate this coaching staff.

It shouldnt have even been this close. Should have easily had 5 or 6 and they just let SJ get right back in it

Andrae is the best Flyer by far tonight!
- jd250

Yes! Still early but really like what I saw. Love the 25 mins and hope that continues.

Andre has been great his entire call up. The kid has proven he belongs and frankly ahead of JD at this point.

John LeClair late in his career looked like he could still score 20 on a bad back. Couturier looks like a three goal scorer on a bad back.
- roenick97

Johnny also didn’t have two back surgeries. You’re comparing apples and pencils dude.

They arent that bad. Many of those goals missed were tap ins. You dont need to be a superstar to score those.

You are right, he played through his bad back and had the surgeries after he retired.

I didn't like the 25 minutes to be honest. I don't want them to run the kid into the ground by Christmas. I would like to see Andrae play 18-20 quality minutes. The problem with last night is Zamula is an adventure out there and Johnson can only play so many minutes, so you are really playing 4 defenseman. When York comes back that will help. I think Seeler has to be a 3rd pairing player for them.

Clearly Andrae has already made more of an positive impact in a few games than JD has made his entire time with the Flyers. That's scary. I don't think JD is going to pan out I'm afraid. Luckily Gauthier is not lighting it up either, as I predicted he wouldn't.

Because this game needed to be a regulation or OT win for the Flyers. Given how good the Caps look, if they can keep it up the Flyers will not be a playoff team this year. One important playoff tie breaker is regulation and OT wins, and this was a game that should have been a gimme given the Sharks were on a back to back. If the Flyers could just finish some of their chances, the Sharks would have given up by the midway point in the game.

So I predicted on Facebook in the comments section that I could see Tyson Foerster or Cam York could be the Flyers future potential captain someday and oh my god, Philly has no chill. I’m getting sarcastic comments that compare York and Foerster to Nick Seeler.

I think it's a positive that Andrae has played so well. Once everyone comes back, just sit Zamula. The problem with JD, is that we really can't afford to give up on him yet, so he should play even if it's reduced minutes for the time being. Who know, he may have hurt that shoulder again and may be gone for a while despite what the team is saying.

No it didn’t. It was against a west coast team and in case we need to remind you, the Flyers are also a bad team…

That doesn't matter. Flyers had a premium asset that right now looks like they wasted.

That is inexcusable.

York I could see. It's not farfetched. He was the Captain of the US WJC team that won gold a few years back.

They are a bottom 1/3 team in this league. That is bad to me.

All those missed tap in goals you don't need a superstar for, ok. Though you do need talented players. Flyers lack talent.

Sharks were 5-2 going into this game, so they weren't the pushover you'd expect, but 2nd game of a back to back and it showed in the 3rd period. Weird game, Sharks got some lucky bounces, while the Flyers did everything but put the puck into the net.

Couts line was totally dominant, I don't think they're changing up anytime soon, TK could easily have had a hat trick, Tippett hit another post, Couts missed a wide open put back.
The Laughton line was bad, Brink is trying but he's on the wrong side of the ledger too often.
You can see why Richard has never stuck in the NHL, that speed allows him to start plays, but he never seems to finish them.

Michkov took a really stupid penalty. But then scores in the shoot out - he should buy Ersson a few rounds for covering for his F-Up.

Cates looks faster this season, and Edge agrees, his top speed has been below league average, but this season 22.43 to league average 21.78. But his 20+ bursts are well below, so he added speed last summer but is learning how to use it - this game it looked like he figured it out.

Andrae was a beast, still makes some mistakes and loses too many battles, but since when did he have those dekes and moves? Yeah, Torts hates young players, that's why he gave Andrae 25 minutes - maybe he only hates young players who don't play well? Andrae got a shot and is running away with it. Still not convinced he's top 4 material, but he's on his way to making me a believer.

Ersson came up big in OT, Flyers are 5-2-2 with him in the net.

After I read this, for a minute, I couldn't remember who the current captain of the team is. I don't think the next captain of this team is on the team yet.

Nice post. WRT Cates, the big issue with him is his supreme lack of ability to finish. Holy crap, he had two grade a chances last night and got nothing. Even if he could finish say 20 percent of his chances, it'd be great.

WRT Ersson. I think he's been solid all year. He may not be a top tier tender, but he seems to give the team a chance to win most night and he's very good at shootouts. I know many on here think he's below average, but you have to factor in the team in front of him. While some of the fancy stats say he's at the very bottom of the league, the eye test from watching the games show me that he's solid most of the time.

So has Risto done enough to be a reliable 2nd pair Dman? 5.1 miilion with 2 yrs after this season is not a bad cap hit if the answer is "yes". Really want to see the plan getting rid of players left with term on their contract off a very mediocre roster. A Risto, Farabee, and/or Laughton trade by the beginning of next season signals some hope Briere does not love his current mediocre roster- not convinced yet Frost divorce is happening and a rather easy decision at this point.
