I'm asking a serious question; I do not see anything special. What makes him so great? He seems very slow and gets moved off the puck quite easily. I was expecting Panarin-lite or someone who stick handles like Necas the other night. I'm ready to be enlightened. What am I missing? Please no sarcasm. I have 3 daughters and get enough of that in my daily life...

First lets get the obvious stuff out of the way. Michkov is only 19 years old, barely speaks the English language and has played a total of 15 NHL games. Michkov has 13 points in those 15 games already, including 8 power play points, and a game winner last night. Michkov is also 1 point behind in the NHL rookie scoring race.

Now let's go deeper. If not for the lack of talent around him, MIchkov by now would probably have a dozen more points. His hockey IQ is off the charts. To me it reminds me a lot of Gretzky in terms of seeing the ice and seeing passing lanes that are not even there yet. Michkov is never afraid to try things which make him a threat anywhere in the offsensive zone. Michkov's compete level is also off the charts.

His physical strength and skating will improve over the next couple of off-seasons, and I project by the time he is 21 or 22 years old, Michkov will be one of the best and most dangerous players in the NHL. For the Flyers, they need to get better players around him starting with a top 1C.

Because Ullmark never expected him to try that shot. Instead Michkov looked him off as if he was going to pass across the crease for a one timer, just enough to pull Ullmark off the most and sneak that shot between Ullmark and the post. A forward can do a lot with his eyes to fool a goalie and that is what happened there.

same can said for dozens of players

Ullmark was complete trash. flyers outplayed badly. picked it up a little in the 3rd.

they will keep their stuck in the middle going nowhere mantra all year.

On a talentless team like this one, Michkov’s potential should be glaring. He’s second on the team in points and overall scoring. Nobody else outside of Michkov and Konency can finish.

And you thought drafting him was a mistake.

i Can honestly say i did not see the flyers winning that game last night. They should count themselves lucky. I would rather of seen them lose as they earned a loss if that had been the outcome.
In spite of that i am happy MM scored the game winner. Was it a weak goal or was it a talented player making a difficult shot. Maybe both.

Exactly. And he’s trying to get used to a new culture while playing in the best league in the world. So far he’s done better than I though he would and is better than advertised

I will say that it was a weak goal but I routinely get mad at our players for over passing in an attempt to get a tap in goal. Matvei shows a propensity to take that shot when it makes sense. The other aspect of that play is that while it’s low percentage, from that close it is hard to control a rebound so it may have led to another chance had he not scored. That having been said, I think he was trying to score and it was a smart play. You don’t score on 100 percent of the shots you don’t take as gretz said.

It's hard to know without an explanation from MM himself. The reason i asked if it was a weak goal or very good shot or both is because it can be both. How many times do players try and go five hole and hit the goalies pad? Or the shooter has a tell where he wants to shoot and the goalie is ready for a shot.
MM on his breakaway goal the game before last went five hole and made his shot.
Last night Ullmark gave up just enough room and MM made the shot. Most players probably hit the goalie or the side of the net.
Could MM have just thrown the puck on net seeing what would happen? Maybe.

I see what your saying about MM in regards to getting knocked off the puck easy. He also doesn't have high end speed. He does sometimes disappear during games.His passing is above average. His anticipation is above average, he has a accurate shot. i would describe him to good to very good right now.
I wouldn't describe him as a star level player yet. In saying that he hasn't even turned 20 yet. I don't think he will start to really become more dynamic until he gets more comfortable in the league and gains more strength.
I can see MM becoming one of those players that can stickhandle in tight when he needs to and make some great plays a few times and losing the puck and turning it over other times.
He seems like the sneaky type player who gets lost in traffic but always finds the seams to make a pass or take a pass and score.
When Nolan Patrick came into the league he did not do much. MM is putting up points in the best league in the world and isn't even close to hitting his potential.
He isn't flashy so maybe that gives pause to some people.

Yes. He’s got great skill so likely he’s hitting his exact spots with the shot and we see the result. I wouldn’t put it past him that he saw a small opening and hit it

Story of this game is Fedotov is establishing himself as an NHL goalie. Being 6'7, it will not be pretty at times. Just playing big will get the job done most times. 2 weeks ago, guy looked destined to go back to the KHL after the season. Now there is at least hope.

Michkov is an "oh poop" player. If he gets space near the net or gets behind your defense you are in big trouble. Offensively he is a couple of steps ahead of everyone on the ice. Kaprisov has a little bit more flare to him. But I think Michkov is every bit as good offensively.

He needs to work on his game without the puck and defensively. Those things will come and he will get better as an overall player. As a 19 year old he is close to being a PPG player. He has the potential to be a legit superstar.

He has definitely played better the last two starts. He went from a non NHL goalie to a guy who seems to belong. He still has a good amount to work on though. His positioning has improved but still needs a lot of work in my opinion.

I agree. When the season started I tempered my enthusiasm but imagine what he came do once he gets used to the league and we hopefully get him some more talent to play with? I do think he has potential to be a star.

If you watch the video of the goal he has his head up and takes a stride or two then takes the shot. I would have to agree that he saw an open spot and hit it.

Peyton Krebs for Morgan Frost incoming- 2 similiar aged reclamation projects.

Im def interested now. I had more hope fro Frost but it seems like hes not going to pna out. Im hoping we can get Krebs as Buffalo seems to be handling his development poorly. He has spent a lot of time on the 4th line. Just recently got moved up but I think thats due to injury

Ersson now has sustained 2 injuries causing him to miss time already, very good shot he'll be back in the NHL again. Other issue for Kosolov is could he even find a job in the KHL for the rest of the season. Looks like the KHL regular season ends March 23rd. Now in the summer, yeah no clue if Kosolov comes back for training camp.

Someone has posted earlier and I agree Frost is now a reclamation project. His value will be in acquiring another reclamation project. Now Krebs is signed thru next season. For BUF- top 3 centers- Cozens, McCleod, and Frost after this potential trafe. Krebs best season in his career is 26 points. Maybe the Flyers can unlock something in Krebs, who is entering his 4th season with BUF.
