At least we can watch the big 3 retire here!

This is part of the process!

I thought he might be one of the bottom 5 GMs in the league when we hired him. I think it's pretty clear now that is the case.

Literally every area of the team he has made moves to improve have made the team worse. Bad trades, bad signings and frankly no vision of what the team should be.

He should be fired on merit at this point but will be safe until fans stop showing up and the bottom line is impacted.

Funny all the backlash hextall got but Dubas seems to get a free pass… he’s just as bad.

He traded Jake for a box of magic beans. Did nothing to try to replace him. Can’t evaluate dmen or goalies. But he sure can stockpile draft picks.

Trust the process, boys! We will be thanking these guys when we are calling the name of the next franchise player in June.

Having said that, Sully not playing the kids against Columbus is a joke. No better time to play them than tonight.

It is, in fact, part of the process. Unless you draft Brayden Point in the third round and open up a second window immediately.

That’s an oversimplification, but what teams have gone from perennial contenders into their next window of contention gracefully?

Blackhawks: dogwater for half a decade

Kings: extended period of mediocrity before their stars were even truly past it and just now bouncing back after a multi year rebuild

Blues: One and done and now dogwater

Ducks: similar to Blues but worse

Sharks: never won and have now been dogwater for half a decade

Caps: handling things more gracefully than us but generally the same trajectory. I wish we were the Caps, but they’ll have their fall off too.

It’s really only the Lightning and Bruins that have been able to gracefully transition and it was due to a (frank) ton of draft luck. Neither team got any kind of big haul for the aging stars to jumpstart a rebuild.

I am 100% on board with tanking for one year. I'm mad that he has put us in such a bad spot for next year.

And yeah, Sully is the worst coach possible to retool with because he will just never get the young guys in the lineup. Dubas didnt help by bringing in about 6 4th liners this offseason though.

My criticism of dubas is that year 1 he moves a first and brings EK thinking he could ice a solid team. Everyone knew the team was too old for that to work.

The return for guetz was botched.

Now he’s in a rebuild, brings in bad players, when you might as well just play Poulin…etc…I feel like he’s just winging it. They’re too bad to watch at this point.

Honeymoon phase if anything. I think that's over though and Dubas isn't getting a pass now. He's been terrible. Even his moves that looked good haven't worked out. And a lot of his moves just looked bad from the start and turned out to be so.

I agree! I still am baffled that we didn't hire a GM from our search and hire Dubas as the President like we did with Hextall. I think this offseason they need to hire a GM whether Dubas likes it or not.

That's great! Also I think they need to keep throwing Jarry out there. Unfortunately I think he will get a lot better the more he is out there. In WBS he was talking about he wanted to get multiple games in a row. It makes him feel more confident in his game.

Tailing off and being out right embarrassed most nights is completely different. Not only that, other teams have enough dignity to make the other team uncomfortable.

It's almost impressive how bad they're playing. They literally aren't doing anything well. Not one element of the game is a positive.

In the old days when a lower-line F was slumping, they'd go into a game and just try and be super physical, stir it up, try and create some energy. These guys just look bored out there.

The D corps might be playing worse than any D has in the cap era, and Jarry looks like a high-school goalie out there.

Not sure how an NHL team manages to do everything bad all at the same time.

Few gms back, I questioned whether there was intent behind it in order to get Sully fired by Thanksgiving. On the other hand, if they’re legitimately this bad, then fvck.

Roster construction (GM). System (coach). On-ice results (players). All deserve blame, but who’s going to do something to improve it?

I think Dubas needs to get a GM and they both need to redo the team a bit. Grab some younger talent as we discussed previously and be aggressive during the offseason both during free agency and also during via trades (and bring in actual good and all-star talent). I wouldn't mind bringing in someone who is younger.

Trevor Zegras, Kaapo Kakko, Oliver Wahlstrom, Peyton Krebs, Nicholas Robertson, and Joel Farabee are all in the rumor mill. I think if we move some players for more picks and cap space. Why not try to send some picks to bring in some of these players who may help us sooner (not that I like all these names).

Unfortunately none of the guys you named are defensemen. Pettersson will be traded, Karlsson has gone full Brassard Letang is showing his age, St. Ivany has fallen back a little.

I don't see how you rebuild that for next year. Brunicke and Pickering are nice pieces eventually.

No, Caps trade for 26 year old reclamation projects. Not 35 and 32 year olds.
