The Flyers drafted the only bust in the top 5 of that draft. All the hope and happiness of moving up in the lottery- down in flames. - Trox88
That miss set us back severely and still hurts along with getting JVR instead of Kane in 07. Sometimes I think that's why the org doesn't put all their eggs in tanking for high draft picks. It NEVER works out for them. |

At least JVR was a solid player who’s had a good long career. |

It makes you wonder how the Bruins were able to overcome their 2015 draft debacle with 3 first round picks in a row. The next three players taken were Barzal, Connor, and Chabot.
Getting Pasta the year before at #25 sure helped.

Really blew a chance to improve our draft, got to kick the Avs while they're down b/c they're sure to string together some wins.
Grans looked much better, people already forgetting how nondescript he was last season. Andrae is ahead in line, so is Drysdale and Zamula. Grans needs to play big minutes in LHV to refine his game and get a shot later this year. He's got the raw tools that made him an early 2nd rd pick, but needs to keep developing. Maybe he's turned the corner, maybe it's a mirage.
Farabee is playing better, that second line with Laughton and Brink has some promise.
No place for Michkov right now, Cates/Poehling/Frost. Richard/Foerster. None are good combos.
Next year probably Farabee - Luchanko - Michkov.
I think Luchanko - Michkov b/c Couts - TK have chemistry going back 7-8 season. |

I posted before this season started that Andrae and Grans were ready for the NHL. Andrae has clearly shown that, though hoping his injury is not too bad, and Grans didn't look out of place last night against one of the best skilled teams in the league. So this should give Danny plenty of confidence to trade Risto this season and to make a more leveraged decision on both York's and Drysdale's next contracts. |

I'll say this about Farabee. He is a now an experienced NHL forward that knows how to play the game the right way. Thus far this season, Farabee has played sound hockey and has put himself in the right areas of the ice at the right moments. The problem is Farabee just lacks the skill to take advantage and score consistently. He has proven to me he is a good bottom 6 NHL forward, but nothing more. I don't mind him sticking with the team, but I also wouldn't mind if Farabee got traded if there was good value for him. |

Michkov needs a true top line center to play with and the Flyers just don't have that. Actually I think Cates right now is the Flyers best center option, but he is nowhere close to good enough to play with Michkov. Poehling can skate well and forecheck, but he is also not close to good enough. Couts is just too slow to play with Michkov, he can barely keep up with TK and Tippet. Frost is just all fluff and no stuff. Maybe Luchanko can be ready next season, but the Flyers need to address their center position this off season. |

Grans has not been impressive since he arrived. He was only called up as they have 3 guys out. My guess is you have maybe seen him play a handful of times for the Phantoms. He has not shown he is ready based on his AHL play.
Grans played well. Maybe he is one of those who does better in NHL. If they are surely rebuilding they give him a long look. Do you have any confidence this management team will do that with Grans?
The play of Grans and Andrae will have no bearing on whatever contract York receives. |

If Sweeny and Neely were even badly prepared to make the picks, the Bruins would have been the next dynasty with those picks in that draft. It was an EPIC blunder that should have cost them both their jobs. |

As Torts stated correctly in his post game, sometimes players, especially defenseman, play much better in the NHL compared to the AHL. I saw some nice things from Grans in this past pre-season that made me believe he was ready for at least a bottom 6 role. He showed last night he can do it. |

He set career highs in goals, assists, and points last season, and people talk like he took a step back.
So far this season he has started slow, I think some of that is attributable to how weak we are at the center position and all the line juggling Torts makes. One can argue that Konecny, Michkov, and Sanheim are the only players on the team who haven't started slow.
We can all agree he needs to step it up. As does almost every other player on the team.

Farabee has missed many easy slam dunk goals. That is on him. He has shown over the years that the only thing he is consistent at is being inconsistent. |

The Patrick selection is devastating present day. It is truly amazing how bad the Flyers center depth is currently. Couts is by far the best of the bunch and he should be playing in a 3rd line role (Joel Otto role). Noah Cates looks like he is Kent Mandervlle 2.0. Laughton is not a center- he is there out of necessity. Poehling is a 4th linr center, who can skate.
They have backed themselves into such a corner, any center with the potential to be in the top 6, Briere has to try and acquire. Last night, Mittelstadt was so far superior to any Flyers center- absolutely brutal. |

blaming he has no centers has nothing to do with him missing point blank chances, does it? |

It sounds like grana had a strong game. Strong enough that even torts complimented him.
And he got his first point.

No, but fine. Nitpick what you want. It's not all I said. How many point blank chances has he missed?
You think center depth has nothing to do with the teams trouble scoring goals. Agree to disagree. |

center depth does have a negative effect on scoring. never said nor implied it doesn't.
what it doesn't affect is the point blank chances Farabee has flubbed. |

Depends on the injuries. The good news is Grans is clearly high on the depth chart in terms of call-ups so he is getting closer. |
