Someone tell the AI that Stone is injured, again. I have him in a pool, again. - Aetherial
I don't think we need a new blogger, just someone to post one of a Spatso's hawt takes from the past so we can start every thread with a good laugh.

I'm slightly befuddled. Someone please elaborate.
Our beloved Mr. French has elevated forum permissions to post blogs, but is not a blogger at this time, nor a moderator?
Why can't we have a rotating panel of bloggers from the regulars in here, and have French post them to the main page?
I'd be willing to write one occasionally, MonkeyPunk has expressed interest, and Wedgie does the AI thing (which could actually work if the output was punched up prior to posting).
That would be enough to keep the threads on the main page. I'd do it for free, rather than see no Leafs blogs at all. French could check it all to make sure it meets standards before posting.

What? Say it ain't so!
I was so sure I was loved over there when "enjoy your ban" was a phrase I closed out so many enjoyable conversations with the ones from there who are losers.
I always assumed my Christmas cards from Buffalo got lost in the mail!

Do people actually read the blogs? Serious question. Cause honestly all we need is a new mock blog to allow us access to post...err...rant, carryon and verbally fondle eachother. The blog is simply the doorway to enter the insane asylum.

Actually think it would be a good idea to have a rotating roster of us posters writing blogs.

It depends on the blogger. Some write some genuinely good stuff, or used to. I enjoyed some of them. Michael Stuart was good for the Lightning. But, nobody measures up to the lofty ideal of Tanner - the prodigal son. |

Tonight's picks. You know the drill. Call your bookie. (GS5)
Record this season : 33 - 19 (.634%)
A few quick words about methodology. I don't just 100% pull these out of my ass. I've tried that before and my average wasn't awful, but nothing over coin-flip odds over the course of 100+ games, so I quit doing them. This season, I am using some data-mining and liberal use of statistical trends to hone my gut instincts into something a tad more scientific (and hopefully sustainable). My record so far this season is my best ever, albeit the sample size is still small. Let's see if it becomes a moneymaker worth continuing, or just a lucky run that won't sustain.
Factors I use in making a pick : (I try to use each of these for every matchup)
1) current record of the teams
2) current win or loss streak
3) home/away and back-to-back status
4) key roster injuries and callups
5) current player streaks (points, goals, goalie wins, shutouts, etc)
6) PDO - I am big on PDO. Current PDO and PDO trend over recent games.
7) xGF and xGA trends for the overall team and GSAA for the goalies
8) Eye test - if applicable, mostly just for teams I actively watch (mostly Leafs and Tampa)
If all of those result in a "toss up", then I use my gut/heart to break the tie. If I still don't have a firm feel, then I use a Magic 8-Ball as a final tiebreaker.
So, basically what most people do when making picks, but with a lot of attention to PDO and the 8-ball.
Picks for tonight :
VGK - TOR : TOR
CAR - PHI : CAR
SJS - DAL : DAL
NAS - SEA : NAS
BUF - LAK : LAK
So sayeth the Stoner and 8-Ball. |

No doubt.
I remember early on, after I just joined. I can’t remember any names, but I was in the Canucks blog. A new Nucks poster had just joined - he seemed like a great guy…anyway, he had no idea you could edit his posts, and the other Nucks posters realized this and they were having a heyday with it. I was literally in tears reading their posts. One of the best days I’ve had on here. - Woderwick
Damn now you have me thinking about old posters here.
There use to be a guy here from late 2000’s that would make wagers with other posters and his running joke would be that it was in the mail. I can’t remember if he was eluding to his penis or a finger.
Edit: just remembered his name. Weirdoh

Dude. You know you really (frank)ed up in life when you get mad and disown the Leafs, and choose a disaster in the Sens as the better option. He got frustrated at the Leafs beating the Sens in the playoffs every time they met, he decided to jump ship |

Who was the dude who had Malkin as his profile pick and kept repeating the "... wants to be the MAN." bit? George something maybe? And then the Lightning regulars, who all vanished when Stuart left and Tampa had no blogger. All gone.
There was that smartass guy with the profile pic of the crippled kid from South Park. He cracked me up sometimes.
I haven't been here as long as some, so my memories are more recent-ish.

I have purposely avoided oddsmakers and betting sites. I don't want to taint my picks with data that isn't transparent. Those guys are professionals and have access to info I can't access easily or for free.
Also, I never bet real cash. My wife's ex had a serious gambling problem, so I'm on a short leash with betting. This is all for fun.

I was gonna say I'd write a guest blog at some point. But then I thought but this site probably doesn't just let anyone post in a blog. Then I cracked myself up laughing at that.
I do wish there was more hockey writing out there that talks about the actual systems teams are using. I remember Paul Maurice saying one time to a microphone about how Toronto and some other team play totally different defensive systems. I was like huh, I'd love to read a piece by Maurice about what those differences are, and what all the different teams do.
I'm disappointed that there is so much ink spent on transaction gossip and the usual clichés. |
