I don't remember Torts ever blaming lack of puck support on any of Frost or Brink's turnovers... must be good to be Poehls.
- Tomahawk

Watch his post game last night. Torts called out Laughton's and Poehling's turnovers that lead to goals.

They don’t have the star power nor the grit for lack of a better word since it can’t be measured on a spreadsheet. Those things matter in the playoffs.

Watching the Canes last night, I saw an overwhelming level of grit. I also saw plenty of star power.

Grans was completely overwhelmed last night. To be fair though, so was everyone else. The Canes pressure the puck all over the ice and have strong puck support. They works cycles and scoring triangles. They're one of the best coached teams in the NHL. We'll see if the emergence of Necas can get them over the top.

You didn't want the Flyers to pursue Necas.

Tippett having 4 goals in 20 games, Foerster 4 in 19, Farabee 3 in 20 and Frost has 1, playing horribly is getting the most out of these players?
- MJL

Its on the players, not the coaches. Farabee has been all over the puck this season, he can't finish because he has OK skill as I told you. Foerster had a bad start to the season, wasn't doing the things that kept him in the lineup last season. He is starting to come around. Tippet can't hit the net, how is that on the coaches? He has the most shot attempts on the team by far, just can't finish. Been this way since he's been in the league and probably why Florida trade him. And Frosty ... sigh ... can't stay in the lineup and this is a contract year where you would think he would have been highly motivated. At 25 years old, if Frost can't stay in the lineup, that is 100% on him!

Luck is a the most important part of the drafting process. I can't wait for your spin when Risto is traded.
- jd250

Flyers are just an unlucky organization I suppose.

There will be no spin. If he is moved without 50% retention or an equally bad contract coming back, I will simply say I was incorrect.

Grans has some potential but he is not ready for the NHL full time.
- MJL

He is close. I think he could play and develop as a 3rd pairing defenseman.

If the Flyers would be willing to eat 50%, there would be some interest. Otherwise, not so much.

That presser is exactly what I was referring to.

It was nice to see Torts finally starting to realize there's a major disconnect between Laught's reputation as a "200-foot" player and reality.

The coaching has a large part to do with it. Tortorella returning back to a more conservative style like the Flyers did in his first year here, is a huge mistake on his part. It's an overreaction on his part where he is placing more value on winning then developing players. Your comment that Farabee has OK skill, continues to be factually incorrect. Neither Foerester or Tippett are getting the quality chances they need. Now a lot has to do with the lack of center player, which Tortorella isn't helping either. Frost should be in the lineup. Another mistake by Tortorella. He is a bad coach.

No, he's really not close. Needs considerable more AHL seasoning. He could develop as a 3rd pair defenseman in time.

I do.
- jd250

Ok. Then the best clearly isn't good enough by a long shot. They are just outclassed with him getting the best out of the players. So, what's left?

Since he is getting the best out of them (will exclude MM) how can you be so positive about the future? They have very little in the system that will be NHL players. Nothing that will be franchise altering.

Torst has said he will not go into his final season as a lame duck coach. What will the outcome of that situation end up?

They already have a 3rd pair right handed defenseman in Drysdale. That role is stacked on this team already.

Couts got hurt and is just not the same player. Frost did not develop into the center we had hoped. Poehling and Cates are not offensive centers. I blame Hextall and then Fletcher for lacking the foresight to develop strong centers in the organization, and now its up to Briere to restock this position which he began in this past draft.
- jd250

Do the Flyers take any blame for Frost not developing? Danny has had 2 offseason to address the center spot. He hasn't. He also takes some blame.

This is his 4th year in the AHL. Time to show what you have at this point. How many more years of AHL play do you want to give him before you say he is ready?

They should play him for an extended period to see what he can do. Isn't this what you clamor for?

They are still paying Vigneault right now so they were never going to get rid of Tortorella before the end of this season plus he is a side show act to keep the pressure off Briere while he does nothing but mediocre it up.

I am curious about next season. They have already been dropping hints they want to pass on next season too with the money excuse. Maybe they give Tortorella a one year extension and let him coach next year too.

I would have doubts that Tortorella would sign a one year extension. They'd have to give him something else, which is terrifying to think about.

Well, we shall see if Torst is full of poop or just rides it out. Think the AV contract is off the books after last season.

I think he would want at least a 2-year extension. Can't wait to see how it unfolds.

calling out and getting the Frost treatment are two different things, Laughton has been bad 5v5 since last season, maybe give him another year to work it out.

Yes. Michkov is nearly a point per game player with a 3rd line level center at best as his top center option. The other center options are a fourth line center and two 4 line wingers.

The center depth right now might be the worse group of players for any skating position at the NHL level for the Flyers in recent history.

TK is also over a PPG. Necas may not have 30 points but probably the 23 or a tad more TK has right now.

worst center depth I can ever recall seeing. Kent Manderville would fit right in.

The Flyers box themselves in by not doing a full rebuild. A player like Frost won’t be traded because he isn’t playing well and his value is low. If it improves he won’t be traded because the coGM lacks testicular fortitude and bends the knee to the coach and also won’t trade him. Same deal for Risto.

I see no bias for action from Briere. No plan at all and also seems to lack the brass where it counts.

The Flyers are doing an accidental tank as they are currently tied for the least amount of regulation wins the NHL. As stated Briere won’t actually do anything so a full rebuild might happen through incompetence.
