An interesting read and perspective while using some historical examples. A hard position to defend and a hard position to endorse, depending on where you fall on this “rebuild”. But would love to see GMDB make moves for young elite talent (which doesn’t come along too often).
This is the most satisfying part. Rangers are very high up on the hate list for me. Maybe the top. - Hextall271
As much as I despise Crosby and the Penguins, no team will ever match the Rags in my view as “most hated rival.” Goes back to the 70’s and will never change 😂

Tippett seems lost, seems confused when he has the puck and has fallen more than usual, seems even the simple plays are difficult, hope he figures it out

That's a great propaganda piece for the team. Philosophical wise so much is wrong with that article. The Flyers didn't stop being aggressive, The opportunities are rarer these days. The article didn't mention the deals under Fletcher for Ristolainen, Atkinson and Ellis. Don't worry though. As soon as the cap clears up, they'll be right back at it.
From Brad Park’s and Esposito’s constant whining, to the fan with the “buy a porsche Hextall” sign, to Tomas Sandstrom, Messier and the rest of the Oilerags to Sean Avery, I hate everything about that (frank)ing franchise!

Yes. I get that. The fans are arrogant dirtbags. From making fun to pelles death and all the battles we’ve had with them.

Yes. The taunting of hextall was always dirty. Fun that we seems to get the last laugh against them during that period. I think we beat them out in 87 95 and 97. They got us in 2014. Always cool to see that ole Hank retire without a cup. Haha
Pens isles caps and devils all on my list too as well as the leafs and habs.

Sucked that Mason couldn’t start that 2014 series, he was lights out when he got back in

The article is not at all wrong. If the Flyers were in an actual rebuild…you know a team that trades it’s vets, GOES THROUGH A TOUGH TIME ON PURPOSE, in order to gain better assets to build with, then I would say they are just going about it the a different way. No one can argue that the Flyers were at least relevant or would move heaven and earth to get there if they felt something needed to be done. “Apathy” is as good a word as any as how I view the last decade. Guys like Tocchet and Recchi were moved now we hold onto guys like Scott Laughton and Travis Konecny….those guys were moved with the knowledge that the team may suffer short term, but they weren’t going to accept he status quo.
No offence to all the so called experts around here but the old guard, the old way of doing things actually made this team relevant…are they relevant today ? And have they been in the last decade?

Yes. Mason was underrated in his time in Philly I think. He wasn’t bad at all for the mediocre team in front of him. They still gave the rags a hell of a battle in that series taking them to 7.

When we were younger we used to go to lots of away games as Flyers fans. By far the worst fans were Rags fans! We went to a game in December of 1989 at MSG and it was simply unreal. Talk about classless loser fans! The Flyers won the game 4-2 and we literally had to fight our way out of their building. Luckily there were about 30 of us that particular evening and we had plenty of firepower! The Penwhines have been my most hated team the last 15 years or so. Always hate the Laffs and their obnoxious fans, and I hated the Devils in the mid 90's for ruining the game of hockey with their trap. Oh, and Scott Stevens was the biggest douche to ever lace up a pair of skates.
Leafs because my whole family and best friend are Leafs fans it disgusting - SlNlSTER
Yes. Up here in Canada I’m surrounded by leafs fans habs fans and a lot of bruins fans. I don’t even get leafs fans. That franchise is a failure in every sense of the word except they make a lot of money bilking their stupid fans.
If they piss away the current squads window it’s an epic failure. Shanaplan so far hasn’t worked

That's the point really isn't it? That the old methods from the old guard worked backed in the day to make the team relevant. The point is now two fold. Does is work today and all indications are they're going to continue with the old way of doing things.

For me historically, I have hated the Rangers the longest. From back in the days when their fans were as classless as possible when Pelle died.
I really developed a hatred for the Pens over the Crosby era.
As for the Devils, even with the 3 cups and living in NJ, they may as well not exist to me.
But for some reason, be it Ty Domi, or Darcy Tucker, or their insufferable fans, I simply can NOT stand the Toronto Maple Leafs. I hate the way Ty Domi was dirty, I hate the way Tucker only acted tough at home, I hate the way their fans scream when any of their players are breathed on. I hate the entitled, "we are the cream of the NHL" mentality they have even though they haven't won anything since before I was born and they act like every year is their manifest destiny. I love watching the compilation videos of them having their hearts ripped out every year by Boston, and Jeremy Roenick.
Im sure they feel the same way about Philly or dont even think about Philly. I dont care.

What a great moment in Flyers history! We were out at a local establishment and that was a special evening. Shutting up the obnoxious Laff fans in style! That may have been the best 8 minutes of overtime hockey that I have ever seen. Just a shame that they couldn't take it all the way that spring.

If they are going to try the old way then I guess I’m confused with several moves they have made in the last couple of years….signing Konecny to an 8 yr extension….signing Seeler and Hathaway to extensions….refusing to move on from guys like Laughton. The old way was they saw the team had flaws and dealt with it…I see them as a team that basically want to continue to retool while trying to do so with mid teen draft picks and a whole lotta “hope we get lucky”. Frankly I don’t know what their plan is….I would be fine if it was a rebuild. Then just do it…move on from guys that aren’t going to here when they are actually a contending team…I just see this as setting the franchise up for another mediocre decade.

The old way doesn't include re-signing older players? The old way is using free agency and trades. Every year. The new way would be to trade players like Konecny, Seeler, Hathaway and Laughton to gain young prospects and draft picks. You're right, I agree, it is setting the franchise up for another mediocre decade,
