Kaapo Kakko selected to Team Finland for the 4 Nations cup - airjan23
Dearest Jan,
Next time please start with a warning. Something like "4 NATIONS CUP RELATED NEWS: X Player Selected To Country Y" because we are in full crazy mode here and I thought something happened to Kakko like a trade for half nanosecond.
Regards,
Pickle |

I think he'll get significant minutes as a chance to prove he belongs in the NHL. He did extremely well at the beginning of the season. - mames11
over the years I've seen people shred the Rangers for rushing Lafreniere and Kakko and not giving them AHL time, to not calling up players quick enough, I can barely keep up with it sometimes

Do you think anyone else on the team will make it? We know Fox and Zib were already selected. I would say Trocheck had a chance after last season, but the way he has played so far this season I don’t think he will. Laf could have an outside chance but the Canadian forward group is stacked. |

Seguin out until playoffs at the earliest. Imagine Mika waived to go there for no state income tax????? Too bad he’s got 6 more years or it would work if Dallas was really dumb |

Sounds like Kreider and Trocheck will both make US. Their ability to play in all situations definitely helped their cause over guys like Caufield and Tage Thompson. |

I'd rather see none of them go. Anytime I see a tourney during the season I picture Jagr getting a cheap-shot by Matt Cooke in the Olympics and injuring him long-term. Not worth it. Useless tournament if it doesn't include at least 16 nations (including Mad Vlads team). |

Agree with not rushing Mancini. I'm a big fan of his and he played great in the beginning of the season relative to expectations before the year started but he was by no means exceptional and got caved in vs Edmonton (along with the rest of the team to be fair). Let him develop, there's no need to bring him into this tire fire right now. |

Using that example. What would happen if someone retaliated against Cooke in that Olympics game and bashed his head in? They get suspended from the rest of the tournament. Do you think they get any discipline from the nhl or do they come back a hero? |

I mean we can criticize both of them for a million things but it's not really debatable that they are good PKers which these "all-star" lineups typically lack. |

I wish the tournament were sooner. I think some of the guys going could use a change of scenery and being in the locker room with other motivated high end players that aren't going through the same doldrums could be good for them. The guys not going could use a break from all of this. Us as fans could also use a break |

No idea. If this is technically a World Cup of hockey tourney, the games are on international ice but with NHL rules...so I am guessing the NHL can intervene and suspend such a players actions.
I'm likely wrong though.
I am just curious why the tournament was scrapped after 1996 and took them forever to get it going again. That was the best hockey I have ever seen (outside of the 94 season ) |

I think including Trocheck and kreider over Tage and caufield is galaxy braining to the max and will look dumb in retrospect. I’m not going to look it up because I’m lazy but I have to imagine there are 6 forwards better than those two who can play the pk |

at this point I'm glad Mika is going, he certainly can't play any worse and maybe it gets him going
it can't hurt

I would be surprised if they both make it, but agree they would bring PK ability. List of other US forwards:
Auston Matthews
Matthew Tkachuk
Brady Tkachuk
Jake Guentzel
Jack Eichel
Jack Hughes
Kyle Connor
JT Miller (if available)
Jason Robertson
Dylan Larkin
Matt Boldy
Tage Thompson
Clayton Keller
That is 13 right there. I guess they could make it over some of those listed towards the bottom.

Anyone know the deal with JT Miller? What happened there?

This is year 3 of an 8 year contract. He has 5 more years after this. Not a free agent until 2030. |

Maybe you're thinking of how long until he goes to a partial no-move clause? |

I just can’t understand how someone so confidently messes it up that specifically. His nmc becomes a ntc in the final season also |
