Potentially one expiring contract for another, like Provorov for Lindgren. Downside to Provorov is he is not a physical Dman, but he eats minutes and played all 82 games several times. - aecliptic
That would be ideal. |

NOT HAPPENING with J.T. Miller, nor possibly any other Canuck.
The only key Ranger who Vancouver was interested in acquiring in some kind of package trade is KREIDER. He reportedly nixed a deal to them prior even to Trouba being dealt two days ago.
Per "NHL Insider," Rick Dhaliwal, Kreider likely exercised his 15-team NTC, for which he believes Vancouver is one of them. - RangerSaver

Hope they can move Lindgren at the TDL instead of walking away at the end of the season, that would be another bad look for Drury. - Fenrir
I think Lindgren is gone long before the trading deadline... |

I am fine with what Drury has done. Drury, intentionally or unintentionally, reminded this core that the NHL is a business. A business of winning and not making best buddies your can hug every game. This bro-out core of this team is why they are soft. They have a job to do, which is win. The coaches can try all they want, but if the base core of the team refuses to do the job, it will continue to be a rotation.
Mike Keenan understood this in '94 and pissed off a lot of people with his roster demands. Torts understood this. Both were polarizing coaches, but won. Torts made the Rangers a winning team through sheer guts and less talent that the current Ranger's roster.
Time to trade Krieder, one of the "bro" core, if they can. Will Cuylle is showing that Krieder is expendable at this point. |

Jones is the only LD that isn’t a problem
Mika cannot be waived or traded or bought out
Vesey provides at minimum a body making under $1m and does not fetch you more than a 6th rounder at the deadline. Find someone to start over him, sure. Trading him is nonsensical - picklerick
I don’t care if Jones is a problem or not. He’s undersized, and we already have an undersized defenseman we’re paying $9+ million to. Find a team that needs a small puck moving defenseman and trade him.
Vesey can be replaced with just about anyone, he adds nothing to this team. |

Lets say hypothetically speaking... the dominoes fall and they tear down the old guard. They trade Kreider, that spurns Mika to be more open to a trade. They trade Miller and trade Lindgren for Provorov (expiring contract for expiring contract).
Panarin, Trocheck, LAF
-- This line stays unchanged.
Cuylle, JT Miller, Smith
-- Lets say they manage to pull off a trade with Nucks
Othmann, Chytil, Kakko
-- I know Othmann is hurt but I think it makes sense. Also gotta hope Kakko isnt traded but his name is always in rumors.
Edstrom, Carrick, Berard
-- In the event Kakko might be traded, Id bump Berard up to 3rd line.
Provorov, Fox
______, Schneider
Jones, Mancini
-- The D is ugly. |

Congrats to the Mets --- they got Soto! Not to sound sour, but the term and amount of $$$ is INSANE! I'm not sure he can ever live up to this contract, but I wish him well! |

I don’t want Provorov or Jones, so the defense wouldn’t be as ugly without the 2 of them |

Being little brother doesn’t feel so great does it
The Mets needed this splash after last year. Especially with cohen under a lot of heat since he bought the team. Mets fans mighta rebelled if he didn’t offer that kind of money for him
If they end up keeping Alonso too that would be amazin’ Mets part 2! |

Rarely do these monster free agent signings work out long term, but the first 7-8 years or so I think you guys will be getting your moneys worth. After that, that’s a problem for down the road. He’s also still very young so could be even longer than the first 7-8 years he’s an all star caliber player/best player in the game some of those years. |

I'd contend this was possibly the goal for Drury in the end to move high dollar pieces that were are product of previous GMs. Hopefully, he has a plan to rebuild the defensive core of the D.
Remember, Drury was provided a very good team, however, in CAP hell.

Yea being 26 makes it worth the years for them. Lindor was probably a huge factor in this. Like if they didn’t have him in not sure he comes here |

It’s clear the defense will hold this team back this year, and it wouldnt surprise me if he bails on this year because of it and retool/reset for next season. That might be the best course of action for them
Trade Lindgren for a pick or two (retain 50% to boost the return), and evaluate Miller for the next few months and ultimately make a decision on him. Fox isn’t going anywhere but he needs to be used less starting next season. He has work to do back there without a doubt |

I agree this season needs to be a “re-tool”, not a rebuild. They’re no where near where they need to be to legitimately make a run at a cup and need to take a step back and evaluate for the future.
Lindgren with money retained would likely get a 1st at the deadline.
Vesey would get a 3rd or a 4th.
Kreider we could maybe see a package similar to what we got for Nash, but I’m also completely fine with keeping Kreider and actually think that’s the correct move.
Jones we could probably get a 2nd round pick for.
Try and get the 2nd round pick back we spent on Smith also, retain money if we have to.
Take the picks and invest them in guys that will fill the needs of the team and won’t just be here for 20-30 games. Lauzon for instance was traded for a 2nd round pick from Seattle to NSH. That’s the type of trade I’d like to see. |

Maybe this year at the deadline we can be one of those teams adding 3rd and 4th round picks for retaining money on deals. |

I’d do a prospect for prospect deal where we get an up n coming defensive defenseman. I know WiFi is your boy, but Mtl in general seems to have a bunch of d prospects and needs wingers so maybe it’s a match there |

But for real E.J. Emery is a fascinating/hilarious D Prospect.
https://www.collegehockey...ers/career/EJ-Emery/60014
He is 6'3 and skates like the wind, plays lock down D and over 20 min a game. He also has 1 point in 17 games. The real "problem" is that he's another RD, but who knows what our situation will be whenever he may be ready. |

They should try to see if they can pry Trouba out of Anaheim. Vaakanainen and a pick probably gets it done. |
