“We’re not going to be adding. We’ll be subtracting. We’ve been clear about that,” Jones told Nick Kypreos and Justin Bourne on the Real Kyper & Bourne show this week. “We are not in a position where we’re ready to be a Stanley Cup-contending team yet.
“We’re gonna battle and try to win every night, but at the same time, we’re not losing sight of where we need to get to in order to be a team that can consistently compete for the Stanley Cup.”
This means that Laughton will be traded then. He is the most coveted and easiest to trade player on the roster. Risto should be traded as well but I think we are a year away from that. IMO they will add before they subtract a player like Scott Laughton.
Hopefully I am wrong. - mickel25
They bought themselves a few years to hopefully get the organization going in the right direction with the whole patience and rebuild rhetoric…frankly no one knows what direction they’re going in. Just when you think you know they make a move that suggests otherwise.

I do not believe anything this team says until I see it. I truly hope they sell off parts this year. That would be a step in the right direction.

Not buying what the PRoho is selling. His message changes depending on the audience, which is what he was hired to do.
They are already two seasons too late selling Laughton. They also will not move a “much improved” Risto as he is now making them look smart, at least in their own heads. |

Two flyers on this list: Laughts and Risto. The major issue with Risto is of course the cap hit. Also, not sure they'd get a first for Laughton. If they can work it out, flip them both (and possibly other vets) at the TDL regardless of where we stand.

The myth about Laughton and a 1st was Briere not stating taking back a contract with term the other team did not want-ie Walker At this point, I could see Laughton added in a trade as a piece, not the biggest piece.

They will buy to an extent if in a wild card spot or within a few points.
We shall see if they are full of crap in a few months. |

Montgomery > Torts. Monty fired
Richardson > Torts. Richy fired
Lavy > Torts. Rangers are a dumpster fire, how much longer will Lavy last.
Torts is fine and MM is doing great, probably compete with TK on top scorer. - WhiskeyMan

The GM has already shown he won’t sell high on players.
If there is a market for Risto will he take advantage of it? Or will he see others are interested and then decide he keeps him as he is an important cog. |

The only myth is, is that Laughton is an important need to keep player.
Guy has been here what 13+ years and is about as low profile as a player can be. Can’t trade him as he is a core member. |

The Room™ can not be traded. His intangibles are off the charts and will never be replaced leaving the actual room in tatters and disrepair

I am of the opinion they do not have any real long term plan. In a play it by ear mode so to speak.
Their position on the standings will dictate somewhat what they do.
They have already shown they will not move out the culture rules vets. Will that course change? I will believe it when I see it. |

I think the only way Laughton is traded is if he is a piece in a trade. Unless a team is just looking for a 4th liner who can play on the 3rd in a pinch.

So the Flyers have roughly $17.6mil coming off the books after this year plus the cap is going up to $92.5mil. So they will have around $22mil to play with.
They have Frost, Cates, Foerster and York as RFA's. Johnson is the lone UFA.
Assuming they resign all of the RFA's and no other trades are made they will have $5+ mil to play with.
They say they will not be signing any FA's. Well no duh. You have no money to do anything significant due to poor cap management before and after the current FO took over. |

And as it stands right now, the Flyers would be picking 15(own), 21(EDM), and 22(COL) in the draft. While I believe their own pick will rise, the Edmonton and Colorado picks will probably be dropping lower in the draft.
Not much chance of finding elite players at those spots. Even if they stay where they are when all is said and done.
I can see Briere trying to package two of those 1sts to try to move up. But which team in the top 5-10 would want that deal I have no idea.

Laughton is never getting traded. His value on the market isn’t even worth moving at this point anymore.
My guess is they are going to try and move the guys they don't like like Frost, Farabee and Ristolainen. But Ristolainen and Farabees contract pose issues and what can they get for Frost right now maybe a 2nd round pick. I thinks it’s likely they do nothing at the deadline and put out their media lackies to say the better deals will be in the offseason. |

Wouldn't be fair to the room to subtract guys that have given so much for the playoff push.
Many will buy it and not just slurp it up, but defend it. |

travis konecny for zach werenski straight up
they are the same age, tk is a littler cheaper, werenski is at a more important position.
27 year old stud defenseman may age more gracefully into his contract than the type of player TK will likely be in his 30s.
CBJ would probably like the cost certainty of that deal. wouldn't be the first time we dumped a big contract in columbus right before it kicks in |

I doubt he would be able to move up with just picks. He will have to include a player or prospect to get it done. |

And is it even worth moving up if you are not getting into the top five? Going from 12-16 to 6-10 doesn't change much for me. Top 5 is where they need to be. I do not think teams will be willing to trade out of picks 1-5 to drop down to picks 11-16 regardless of what the Flyers offer. Assuming Michkov is not included.

Compare Florida, the rereigning Champions looking to defend their title, even considering trading their best player because he is a UFA to the Flyers who won't move on from Laughton. What i would do for a forward thinking management group..... |
