Which is going to do what for them? They have the fewest regulation wins in the league. - MJL

I’m not a huge Torts fan, but culture IS important. Work ethic Is important. One thing he does seem to build (while alienating some players) is a work ethic and team concept. Being labeled “soft” is a horrible label for a hockey player/team. I will give Torts credit for the fact that this current team doesn’t mail it in, they stick up for one another, and I would suspect (even though I have no personal knowledge) that the Flyers are at or fast approaching the point where it’s not the coach who says “we don’t do that here” it’s the players who are saying that. - mikeyo27
That is exactly it. What you want is a GM that tanks, not a team that tanks. You want your players to go out and try to win every game. Best thing the Flyers got going for them is that they have have to work harder than every other team to get wins. This matters as when the team is ready to compete they will be playing just as hard even though they should have the skill to not need to play as hard. You also want future young players to be picking up these good habits from the vets so the team we have now is not the team we will compete with. Lets move to a future where Michkov, Luchenko, Foerster, Brink, York, Andrae, Drysdale are the veterans on the team. Young polayers entering the league will look to them to see what the expectations are and what they can and cant get away with. These guys playing under Torts will have that work ethic. You see your Vets going to optional practices as a rookie you believe you have to go too. If young players see the vets going out before a big playoff game and gatting wasted, they think that is allowed and will do it to. The Torts era is just as important for future flyers than it is for our current ones.
I agree Torts has his flaws and can get in his own way but there are positives and there are reasons why players love him as a coach. Werenski for example praises Torts. He isnt going to work for every player. No coach does.

Wins are wins. Doesnt matter how you win them. The only thing that matters is this team is cabpable of winning close games. Shootouts are the only wins that sort of make a difference because come playoff time, there are no shootouts. The only thing that matters is that the Flyers be a good 5 on 5 team. That is what matters in playoffs

In your world, every team with the exception of the Flyers is poorly coached. Every player that comes from another team to the Flyers, was poorly coached. Only the Flyers have coaches capable of coaching and developing NHL players. You're using the same narrative with Drysdale as you've used with Ristolainen.
Best thing for Drysdale was to get out of the loser culture in Anaheim and get into the winning culture of the Flyers. Can't make it up. - MJL
The Flyers under Hakstol, AV and Yeo were poorly coached IMO. The Flyers I believe are well caoched now, though I do believe Rocky should be replaced. |

Dude, he makes 8 mil a year and is slowing down rapidly. The Rags fans couldn't wait to unload him on some sap team. Why is it that you worship every other team's moves and rip EVERY move that the Flyguys make? Clown! That was a dumb move by the Ducks and they bailed the Rags out by taking on the entire contract. - Phillywhiteout
A very dumb move by a very poorly run franchise. |

you do? what is the highest paid goalie in the KHL currently?
his competition is cal peterson. - login
Makiniemi is also there and Carson Bjarnason will be there next year. Again Fedotov will need to want to play in the AHL as well. Kolosov had no interest playing in Allentown. Why would Fedotov? You also ignore all the under the table deals players get in the KHL. He was an elite goalie in the KHL hence why the Flyers were so interested in him. Teams would def pay him to get him
Flyers are playing Petersen over Makineimi who has been better so why do you think they would play Fedotov over Petersen? Lappy has a hard on for Petersen for some reason

That's not correct. There is a fine line and their inability to win games in regulation is an indicator that they're not a good team. Is there 3 on 3 in the playoffs? The Flyers are not a good 5 on 5 team.

The Flyers went to the playoffs under Hakstol and Vigneault. The Flyers coaching is currently very mediocre. There is zero evidence to hold them in the regard that you do. |

Cozens and Krebs for Farabee and Frost. Now that's a hockey trade. - Phillywhiteout
Would you trade Cozens and Krebs for Farabee and Frost if you were Buffalo?
Probably not. So it's not a hockey trade, as it appears very one sided.

Tippet is a goal scorer, just not an elite goal scorer. No one ever said Frost was an elite play maker, but the general consensus has been Frost is a pass first player, therefore a play maker. But in reality he is a poor play maker, and we see that clearly now that Michkov is here. - jd250
Your logic is flawed. Tippet isn't elite, but still a goal scorer. Frost isn't elite, and that makes him not a play maker.
Huh?!?!?!? |
