I gather your words Gresch are in reference to my comment on either the blog the night of, or after the horrible 2-1 home loss to the Hawks 3 nights ago. I mentioned Zib having then just 3 total Hits in the 10 games during their 2-8-0 skid, (now 3-8-0). With Zib registering 2 Hits last night, he has a whopping total of 5 for the last 11 games.

But of greater disappointment, his 2 Hits in 26 Shifts taken vs. the Sabres gave him a net total of only 7 Hits for the season, among which he has sacrificed throwing his body at the opposition in just 5 of both his & the team's 28 games played at this 1/3 point mark of the season. That's an average of 1-Hit delivered per every 4 games stretch.

In addition, Zib's 2 Hits thrown last night still left him short of "doubling up his season hits total" of 5 going into the matchup by 3.

he's clearly more into avoiding hits than making them. At this rate, he might end up with fewer hits than a one-hit wonder band. Come on, Zib, we need you to channel your inner wrecking ball out there!

I mean Zib has never been a hitter. Never will be a hitter. He’s not gonna go around hitting many people

And this isn’t the reason he doesn’t score anymore

he had a good game last game maybe this is a good sign, we can only hope

TJ - me and you are aligned - I root for our team no matter what. It took a long time for me to even acknowledge Zibs slump.

to this point I have been proven wrong, but at the time of the potential Eichel deal, I thought Zib was the better center.

The only thing that makes sense is Lavy has made him this way because Gallamt and the coaches before Lavy Zib was a better player then he is now

We fhould have a better sense today if Miller will be out tomorrow and maybe Sunday. Greenways hit wasn't bad, just caught him the wrong. Wouldn't shock me if he missed both games.

It could be his baby changed his priorities -It did for me years back or maybe he's secretly training to be a figure skater and doesn't want to risk any bruises.

Interestingly enough, looking at the stats for the season so far, here are the NYR hit leaders:

1. Cuylle: 112 hits
2. Trocheck: 91 hits
3. Miller: 55 hits

Miller has 12 more hits than Schneider in the same amount of games, and 16 more hits than Trouba in 4 more games.

The eye test says that he goes for the poke check way too often and doesn't play the body enough, but he's leading our defensemen in hits which was surprising to me

nothing indicates more to me that Trouba wasn't trying this season than this stat

That's a good takeaway.

Last seasons hit leaders:

1. Cuylle: 249
2. Trouba: 191
3. Trocheck: 175
4. Goodrow: 170
5: Schneider: 167
6: Miller: 148

Trouba averaged 2.8 hits per game last year. 1.6 hits per game this year

Getting hit by miller must feel like a marshmallow hit you tho

Ba da bump!

In all seriousness, maybe it’ll be good for him to miss a few games with this injury. Watch the game from a different POV and get better. Simply put, he needs to better for himself (new contract) and the team

This next 10 game stretch will tell me everything I need to know about this team. 8 of the 10 are against good to really good teams. Lets see what they look like in those

Mika had 149 hits one year in Ottawa and over 100 3/5 years there. He had 134 in 18/19 for NYR but was down to 49 last year and second most was just 92. He’s on pace for under 30 this year.

Surprisingly Barkov has only had over 100 hits once in his career which was last year and on pace for 100 again. He’s usually closer to 50.

Not sure what the conclusion is here other than hits probably aren’t the biggest indicator for effectiveness. Mika does need to step it up this year though.

Mika is a player that I couldn't care less if he finishes the year with 0 hits. He needs to not be afraid to get hit though and be willing to go to the dirty areas to make plays. He's playing way too much on the periphery this year and last.

You just made a case for use keeping Goodrow. He was the key to this collapse.

Agreed

He needs to score more goals and we’d love him again.

His defensive coverage has really tailed off this year over anything else. He looks lost out there at times. He hasn’t been a minus player in a season here for awhile, and he’s -14 now. That speaks volumes to how bad he’s been
