The two possibilities are they mortgage more of the future to try and get back into it this season, which should be punishable by death, or they punt on this season, trade pieces for assets, and try and reload in the offseason - picklerick

Yea agree.
Trading Fox is the best thing they could do and most profitable imo. I know it’s crazy to do, but if you really think about it, it’s the best possible return to get from a team to speed it up. I love Fox and it’s nothing against him, but it’s a smart decision. Things have changed in a big way this year unfortunately
The best 3 teams in the NHL might be in the metro and those teams aren’t going anywhere for at least 5 years. Definitely not the canes or devils, caps may take a step back eventually - Slimtj100
I think you’ll miss, amongst other things, his ability to keep the puck in the zone when he’s gone |

I’m ready lose every game
My main point is there is no hurdles to get over to trade him unlike virtually everyone else . And he would garner a boatload of assets. I think Brukie said it, we can’t half ass it…rebuild the right way and that means EVERYONE goes
At this point, Fox gets a pass imo. He’s been a non factor for far too long and he isn’t getting any younger..or bigger for that matter |

The problem is I don’t see Dolan allowing a full rebuild like that
He will want to stay relevant |

I dont think Fox is the best thing they could do. The best thing they can do is get rid of Zibanejad, Kreider, Lindgren and Miller. It may come at a price like trading Othmann and some other young piece in the AHL, but its necessary. If we could pull off a trade like the SJ/Vegas trade for Hertl, it would be a god send. |

Which is why we keep hearing about us being linked to Miller and Tkachuk, although I doubt Brady is coming here. I could see the Miller trade happening, granted I wanted them to trade for Miller like 3 years ago. |

As I said, they are absolutely not going full rebuild. They are going to, hopefully, retool around laf,Panarin, Fox, cuylle, Shesty, Perreault |

Ever since laf signed that contract he has been one of the worst on the team |

That contract just happened to be signed as poop was starting to hit the fan.
Unfortunately, hockey teams are like spokes on a wheel. When one spoke breaks, the others hold on for as long as they can, but eventually the weight of the vehicle starts bending the mold because of the one lost spoke. As that mold bends, the weight is no longer evenly distributed and more spokes over time start breaking until enough spokes have broken, the mold breaks and the wheel falls off. |

Honestly, Im ok with that.
I think Kreider can still fetch a decent return because of his skating, PP and PK prowess.
Miller I think can fetch a decent return as well regardless of how we feel. |

Kreider and panarin can get them back a good return. If Panarin waives. Miller to being a young cost controlled player. Fox as well but he is young enough to be part of this retool. Get the man a good shutdown dman so he can play his way
If only the rangers could be bad for a few years and get McKenna |

Its a lottery anyway, and theres no guarantee you get the 1st overall pick even if you are the worst in the league. |

Yall might not think so, but I think if we retained like 2... 2.5m on Mika, I think we could get a decent return on him as well. |

I wouldn’t want him contracted for 6 years at the league minimum. He cannot play. He’s that bad |

I think theres a big difference between cannot play vs not wanting to play. I wish he would ask for a trade or something. |

If it was performance based I wouldnt be against it. For example, a player signed a contract that had a NTC, however based on performance and/or team success, the player could earn an upgrade to a NMC for a certain amount of time. Like, a Stanley Cup berth would gain a player a 3 year NMC. |

He’s basically Ryan Johansen now, and how he/that contract turned out. It’s a very similar decline |

Yeah I know what you mean, in generals it's like "wish all contracts were incentive based, based on the years you've signed with your team." but yeah just NMC continue to burn this organization.
