,

I don't know where his development will be at once he comes back from injury, he'll surely spend some time in Laval but it shouldn't take him a whole lot of time to be able to take on important minutes at the NHL level, so he won't require a transition on a bottom pairing, kinda like Hutson.

- Pat1993

yeah, maybe I'm a bit conservative here. I prefer to give them time. I'd be totally fine with Reinbacher staying the year in Laval and Savard returning on the 3rd pair with a 1y deal.
just like I would be okay with Reinbacher surprising us and being ready to play top4 minutes.
I just think that after missing a full season, he'll need time. either in Laval or on the 3rd pair in Mtl. no rush to give him top4 minutes.

why..?
- Pat1993

Hes missing the full season. He will need time in Laval first, so 2026 we should see him. Maybe at the end of 2025, but 2026 is a safe bet.

not impossible, but I have the feeling we'll see him in a habs jersey fairly quickly, he's a smart enough player that he won't need months of hockey in Laval before being ready and getting called up imho, we'll see.

Turquoise would have been better for the Sharks but I will give you a pass.

good blog as usual sir.

I agree on Carrier, to be honest besides saving some cap space I'm not quite sure what NSH was trying to accomplish with that trade.

- Pat1993

I think it also gives the Habs some cushion if they decide to trade either Savard or Mattheson, without trying to fill the vet spot with a bad contract / kid not ready / bad player.

So it was a good move.

Also, clears the way for the kids to eventually come up.

... continued from last thread ...

I'm not sold on Newhook either ... "smallish" bottom 6 player, easily replaceable IMO. I think he'll probably let go at some point in the future.

- Garfield512

I think they need to trade Dach and Newhook but their value is really low, Dach is playing like he doesn't want to get injured

it's too soon to give up on Dach, and Newhook would be fine in a bottom 6 role imho.

Newhook will fight with Evans to see who is the 3 or 4 center.

I still think a Heineman / Evans / Demidov 3rd line next year would be a good place to start the kid.

Really like the way Heineman is playing.

I could easily see them packaging Newhook. been playing top6 minutes for ever and still doesn't have a pass!!
Hage is coming, so are Kapanen, Beck... no need for him at center, and not big enough to play wing.

agreed, very nice to see him seize those opportunities with the ice time he has, pretty solid.

as you're implying I guess Newhook could be an added piece to a deal, but on his own he probably wouldn't fetch all that much right now, we'll see what happens..

I expect Demidov to start in the Habs top 6 six right away. That 2nd line needs a big boost, ASAP.

Slaf is on the first. Both Newhook and Dach have been lost this season.

So yeah, they could use Demidov in their top 6 next season.

Slaf belongs on the top line. I'm not worried about him at all.

The idea was/is to give Dach time after his major injury, but I won't lie that I'd be encouraged my some sort of progression in the 2nd half of the season.

When he signed his 4 years deal, the odds were that he would be a bargain at that price by the end of it. That has yet to happen and we're already in year 3.

I hope he turns things around, he still has a year and a half to do so.

I mentioned Slaf because he also had struggles of his own. of course they could use Demidov next year lol, my point was they aren't forced to do anything about it right now, the answers will come from within the team.

oh that would definitely be reassuring, and I think we'll start seeing some positive signs by then, I really doubt he stays stuck indefinitely in the current state he's in.
