The team as a whole was bad..I don't think they had one player stand out except maybe the goalie who had little help..There did not seem to be the high end talent that other countries had.. Dave Cameron is a bad coach in my opinion.

Cowan was terrible. Not sure the reason.. But he showed terrible IQ, bad disciple and as I said in the other thread.. He is an NHL player but I don't think he is as high end a prospect as we are hoping he is.

I have no idea what the coaching staff was doing or attempting to do. If they thought taking stress off the team was required but clearly the team simply did not gel together. Many of the lines, I thought, never did work the way they thought they would - but they just kept rolling them the way they were. Every team we played looked more cohesive than Canada and that falls directly on Cameron and his staff.

Carter George was excellent, as you said, but after that there were just so many question marks.

I thought Bonk overall looked decent and you can see some good things from his partner, Richardinson, but there are a number of other things about Richardinson's game that leave you wondering. I think McKenna showed enough to know that he will be good, but being underaged and less physically mature really showed. He'll be a leader on this team next year. It's a real shame about Schaefer, because he's a star - but he wouldn't have been enough to change the fortunes of the team.

On the whole, and this includes Cowan, it looks like bunch of future 3rd line players with hopes of pushing into the top-6 - but where they are right now in terms of skills and on-ice IQ leaves you questioning if they can make it.

And it wouldn't be a Leaf message board without at least noting that we certainly were not granted many favours by the refs. That hit on McKenna with about 3 minutes left should have been a 5 and a game. There were other hits that went uncalled or were reduced to a 2 against Canada, and conversely hits that Canada threw that were called a 5 and were questionable as even penalties. Ultimately the team wasn't cohesive, but they really did get jobbed by the officiating.

Hopefully next year they don't overthink it and just pick the best players.

Since it IR and not LTIR it didn’t affect the cap. It was done to open up a roster spot. By making it retroactive to the 20th, he was already able to return the day he was put on IR
