So many people think that Canada is an autonomous country. It's not. It's been controlled and run by other countries since it's beginning. 1867, the year of Confederation was backed with the British Government. It wasn't until 1940, that Canada became a protectorate of the United States. The British Commonwealth was at War with Germany, but the United States was still neutral. Great Britain, with the help of the Canadian Prime Minister signed a document called the Ogdensburg Accord. It ceded our protection to the United States who still to this day is overseen by the United States.

The proof is the Avro Arrow. In 1959, Allan Dulles, Secretary of State for the United States, walked into the office of then Prime Minister John Diefenbacker and slammed down this document and gave the Canadian Prime Minister 48 hours to hand the plans over and destroy the prototypes. If they refused, the United States would pull the military defense away from the Canadian part of the North American continent and Canada would have to protect their own Sovereignty during the Cold War. The Canadian government backed down and the U.S., still to this day patrols the Arctic Ocean along the Canadian coastline. It also allows Norad to be implemented and Reagan's Star Wars missile defense shield on the West Coast to function. Canada being a free county is really a mirage.
