Lots of flies in that ointment. Starting with by it's nature, Tortorella's system, while it may not stifle creativity, it certainly stifle's offense. Every team has a system. Some just play it better. Tortorella's system hasn't won anything or come close to winning anything in 20 years

Not that you will….I suggest you take a listen. One thing he definitely pointed out was that both Sutter and Torts do not stifle offence. Now, no offence, but I would suggest Mike Richards who has won pretty much every thing is a pretty smart guy and understands what he’s looking at and what he’s saying.
I agree Torts has not won a cup in a long time….what he has done is gotten more out of less with his approach from a few different teams.

He just turned 26.

Tippet is 26. Frost will be 26. Farabee will 25. Cates will be 26. Ersson is 25.

Should they be moved as well?

- furio16

In a rebuild he is too old….but doesn’t anyone think that’s what this is?

Then those players I mentioned should all be moved as well. If they are rebuilding. That’s all I was saying.

Re signing TK and Tippett ended any perception of tearing it down to the studs which SJ and CHI recently chose to do.

He does, I don't care what Mike Richards says. We've had numerous conversations on here about Tortorella as a coach and his systems and style of play. Bill Meltzer posted numerous times how Tortorella stifle's offense. What he has also done is underachieved with talented teams in NY and Columbus. I think Mike Richards has an obvious bias in the opposite direction of mine. I think Tortorella is one of the most overrated coaches in the history of hockey and there is tons of evidence to support that. Tortorella without question stifles offense and offensive players. There is ample evidence of that in his history.

Watching WJC today. It's a good thing the Flyers didn't take Buium. He's too good and not a 200 foot player.

I’d take a view of Mike Richards over Bill Meltzer any day of the week and twice on Sundays….I realize your not a Torts guy…Im not a huge fan either but I still think he’s a good coach…Torts Methods are not always going to work, but that can be said about any coach. I’m not sure what bias Mike Richards would have? All he did was get his name on the Stanley Cup twice…..won…Olympic gold….world Jr Gold…..memorial cup champ….Calder cup champion….
But ya Bill writes article about the Flyers…

You can do that if you choose to. Since we're into suggestions. What I would suggest is that instead of going with anecdotal evidence. Spend time such as I have studying systems. Watching and listening to seminars on offensive hockey that are publicly available by strong offensive hockey coaches such as Martin St. Louis and Peter Laviolette for example. You mention systems. Offensive play is as very much a structure of play and system of attack as defense or a forecheck is. Watch some of that and it illuminates what is missing from the Flyers structure and system. The Flyers head coach has self admitted that he doesn't know how to coach offense. How can a head coach that admits that, not stifle offense? By the very nature of his not being able to effectively coach it, he does. Rocky Thompson certainly doesn't fill the void. It's why I repeatedly see the lack of balance, spacing and key strategies of offensive attack systems that are missing from the Flyers attack.

Great assessment here. Not a Torts fan but he's not as terrible as the haters make him out to be. The Flyers just aren't a good team. I'd prefer a coach who is better with younger players, as we do have a young team despite the insistence by some on here that Torts only cares about the vets. Erik Johnson & ND will be playing every day!! (Yes ND is injured but he wasn't playing) Guys like Boudreau, Quenneville, or the much ballyhooed Monty wouldn't be doing much better with this team.

Torts did not underachieve in NY or Columbus. Rangers went to a cup final and lost to a much better team. Columbus upset a Tampa bay team that went on to win two cups. Wrong coach at the wrong time here but to say he can’t coach or that you know anything more than he does is absolutely absurd and what makes you the pompous Dbag you’ve always been. Laughable, touch some grass.

You crack me up. You spend more time on here than anyone. You should definitely take over for Bill since you know so much about systems. Do you really think all this stuff up or do you use AI to generate your daily hatred for anything Flyers?

I listen to some of it. I had to turn it off because Richard’s kept saying “like”. It was, like, really annoying.
