Yea. People are being unrealistic. The Flyers also did this kid no favors - ClaudeFather
We can revisit this subject at the end of the season since it is likely he will be traded by Jan 10th (trade deadline). Then we can see where his stats are. |

When it does happen, that will prove me correct. Just like I have been correct all the other times. You have a reading comprehension issue. - MJL
How do you do it? It must be difficult to be correct at all times but you do it on a daily basis with ease. Any recommendations on systems seminars to watch or listen to?

To add, he is the only player on his team who has been drafted. They stink. 2nd worst team in the whole OHL. - MBFlyerfan
Andrew Cristall was on an island in his draft year, still scored almost 100-points and 40-goals. Improved further in his D+1 season without a whole lot of additional help (Tij came on late).
Team quality is but one factor. It can't be used as a blanket excuse. Jett needs to be doing more. |

You can do that if you choose to. Since we're into suggestions. What I would suggest is that instead of going with anecdotal evidence. Spend time such as I have studying systems. Watching and listening to seminars on offensive hockey that are publicly available by strong offensive hockey coaches such as Martin St. Louis and Peter Laviolette for example. You mention systems. Offensive play is as very much a structure of play and system of attack as defense or a forecheck is. Watch some of that and it illuminates what is missing from the Flyers structure and system. The Flyers head coach has self admitted that he doesn't know how to coach offense. How can a head coach that admits that, not stifle offense? By the very nature of his not being able to effectively coach it, he does. Rocky Thompson certainly doesn't fill the void. It's why I repeatedly see the lack of balance, spacing and key strategies of offensive attack systems that are missing from the Flyers attack. - MJL
I would suggest you stop wasting your superior knowledge of offensive systems and coaching. I’m sure with your seminar certificates someone would jump at the chance to bring you on. Probably need to upgrade the wardrobe though. Would beat coming to work on here every single day. Downside is you would have to leave your house. |

As a D+ he is playing against kids younger than him. I get he is on a bad team but he needs to be better. Take into account the WJC and he is not standing out much. He is doing what he has done.... As Tomahawk said: As a D+ you hope he has a "monster" year regardless of what team he is on.
I like the kid a lot but I think folks need to temper their expectations. JD thinks the kid is going to be a 1C - I just don't see it. I think he will be a 2/3C (2C being his ceiling) and there is nothing wrong w that. The argument being made is right now I would prefer Zeev who is having another great year. - Flyfly
he wont even be on the flyers next year is my prediction |

I agree. Though I think the team may force the issue in light of his "tryout" this season.

I agree. To me he seems like a faster skating Scott Laughton.

It didn’t hurt him at all.
If that month or whatever hurt then he wasn’t that good to begin with |

I believe that it did in that it raised expectations to a level that will be unfair to the player. When he doesn't make the team next year people will start to question whether he was the right pick (hell, its happening already). The Flyers will want to save face by maybe pushing him further ahead than he is ready for (since they did it already).
Agree to disagree.

Not just that angle but they should've given him a taste in camp and then he should've been among the first cuts and sent back to juniors so he could get a good start with his junior team. That they kept him into the start of the season, is just another example of their poor judgement.

Vegas seems to keep building Cup contending teams outiside of the norm. I believe there are only 3 players left on the roster from the expansion draft. Too many years have passed to give credit to the expansion draft rules as the reason for success. McCrimmon is a terrific GM who uses all assets at his disposal to team build. I am pretty envious of Vegas. |

Jett is also playing for a bad Guelph team that just had their best defenseman traded off the team. Zeev is playing in the NCAA. You and I don't have a crystal ball but right now its impossible to project who is better than or way ahead of the other. Jett has played 4 NHL games, Zeev has yet to play a professional game. I could make the argument that Jett is ahead of Beev which I wouldn't do. - jd250
Because even you know that is wrong.
Jett played 4 games because the front office and Torts wanted to rush things and try it out. He proved he was nowhere near ready to play in the NHL, and needs to get a lot stronger to stay at the NHL level. So his 4 games means nothing when Buium is in school and wasn't even available for the NHL yet.
But from what Buium has shown at this current WJC and what Luchenko showed is what most people believe is their future roles. Luchenko will be a middle six forward, and Buium has stood out as a top defenseman. I like Luchenko, and hope he suceeds..I just didn't like where he was picked, what they bypassed to get him, and how suddenly he is projected by some to be a top line player, when he won't be. |

You're replying to someone who stated that Luchanko proved that he was a top 6 NHL center in playing those 4 games. Then he asks others how they know something when they offer an opinion on a player.

Could be a lot of buyers come the deadline. Are the Flyers smart enough to take advantage? Or will they chase their tail? |

Sadly, if they are sniffing the playoffs, they won't be selling. I am anti-tank and never root against them but in this situation, I want them to be out of playoff reach and somehow get a miraculous return for a few of our players who a few on here think will be so easy to unload. First rounder for Laughts, Pails, Risto, etc is a lock! I wish is were so easy but a team really has to be desperate to give up something substansial for our lower tier talent. |

Bill leaving is a huge loss but we stopped getting the best that Bill has to offer a while ago when he changed the blog structure to a recap. Rather then opining with his expertise on the game. A blog with just a lineup can be posted on game day and the thread will survive. Luckily for Flyers fans. We have other sources to access Bill's writing.

What would you expect get back for any flyers player. The decent ones have a ntc or nmc.
The flyers would have to take back another teams trash and high salary.

Trade Laughton to Toronto for Robertson and a pick...probably the best they would get.
Don't really see much value in anything else they would be willing to trade. But they won't trade Laughton either so it's moot. |
