Should the Flyers consider buying out Couturier after this season? They would save a small amount against the cap over the next five years and only be penalized $700K per year for years 6-10. Dude is cooked. Seems crazy but the numbers are not that bad. - mickel25
no let it ride for now. he isn't blocking or hurting anything at the moment.
move him to wing is the smart play imo. |

They have to sell, otherwise I think its time to legitimately press Briere for the hell are we doing here. I can forgive the Gauthier situation. I can even forgive passing on a potential 1D star in Buium to draft what they think will be a very good center, but if they don't start trading veterans and get themselves in good position this coming draft, then maybe Briere is nothing more than a stick holder. - jd250

scoring is an issue. to say otherwise is false.
maybe if torts wasn't so stubborn and always have to in his mind be right, he would have hired an offensive oriented assistant and let them run the show he would be tolerated as a head coach. the fact he keeps rocky around is a fn disgrace. shows that to CO-GM danny has no say on the coaches. Unless of course he approves having rocky which would just make him even more incompetent.
nope as Torts refuses to better the team because of his ego and the like. my way is the correct way no matter the results say otherwise. - hello it's me 2050
I agree that Rocky needs to go, if for no other reason than the impotentness of the power play. But I think right now these are good line combinations given what the Flyers have to work with at center. |

I actually like the line combinations right now. Look, the Flyers are 16th in the league in scoring, so that is not an issue. Lat night Woll played a very good game and made some key saves in the 3rd, plus Tippet missed a wide open net set up by Michkov. The Flyers overall played a very good game last night. Only allowed 17 shots and only 10 scoring chances. In the end one bad coaching decision cost them the game in the 3rd as it turned out. Toronto has the star power and thus even when they get outplayed they can still win games with a low number of scoring chances. The Flyers cannot win games this way, they don't have the talent. - jd250
There is no guarantee that Couturier would've won that faceoff. Faceoffs are lost and pucks sometimes are deflected into the net. The Flyers are not 16th, they're 19th in the league and they score under 3 goals a game. Scoring is a definite problem. Their PP is 4th worst in the league. The Flyers continue to have scoring issues, coverage breakdowns and subpar goaltending overall.

combos dont matter in a way they are a bad offensive team. they try noting different. same old play the right way (whatever that is in torts mind) BS approach.
they need fresh minds and voices at the coaching level.
the GM is to fault for having such a schitty center situation. now if the goal was to tank you can live with it. That wasn't the goal and shows the incompetence of danny. |

I don't think the Flyers have a true #1 C.
Coots and Frost are pretty much the same in my opinion and ND and RP is not too far behind Frost.
Frost should be #1. Coots is starting to slow down. - WhiskeyMan
If frost is your #1 center you are in complete trouble, a slowdown coots is still more reliable then frost |

I made mention of this on twitter last night. The lines they are using are basically one 2nd line and three 3rd lines. Mainly because of the level of centers we have.
It is such a glaring need.

Why didn't they sell last year? - corduroy
Last year I don't think the Flyers had a lot of players other teams wanted. Surely teams wanted Walker and the Flyers were able to turn a throw-in into a 1st round pick. Risto last year did not have high trade value since he was hurt and he still had 3 years on his contract. Now that Risto is healthy and playing very well, and given the cap is going up again next year, I think he should be moved this deadline and fetch a decent return. I don't know what the deal is with Laughton, but its high time the Flyers move on from him. He has only 1 year left after this year at a very nice salary and there is nothing more he can add to this team. No excuse not to. I don't want to hear weighing what he means to the team versus what is being offered. If a team offers a 2nd round pick, you take it in a heartbeat.
Just think if the Flyers go into this draft with a top 10 pick, 2 other 1st round picks, and 5 second round picks. They can move up the board as needed and and make 4 1st round selections if they wanted to. It would be a significant step in this rebuild. |

No, and he's not cooked. He just needs to be put into a lesser role.
That's not accurate about his buyout. Couturier has signing bonus money in each year of his contract. Which can't be bought out. Which is 5-6M a year.

Hence why they drafted Luchanko over Buium. I can understand it even though it will hurt to wartch Buium play for the Wild next year. I think Luchanko is going to be a very good player for the Flyers next year also. |

Hey, you deserve this one. How could you possibly not know Michkov missed a good chunk of the 3rd period unless you were not watching the game? I think you need to reevaluate where the foolishness is coming from. - jd250
The game was on ESPN+, which I don't have access to so was unable to watch. You're trying to use the narrative that I don't watch the games, which continues to be absurd. You post almost every day. It's not difficult to know where the foolishness comes from. You're a master at it. |

I just told you, Risto and Laughton will be coveted by teams planning to make a deep run in the playoffs. The Flyers should be willing to trade them both and get a decent return this deadline. If they don't I think its time to seriously question Briere on what the hell we are doing here. |

I was just going off of Capwages. If years 6-10 aren't accurate and would be more then there is nothing to consider.
He is cooked based on the contract he has. I get that he can still be somewhat effective in a lesser role. But his contract demands more than that.
He is just a sunk cost at this point.

Ristolainen is not playing very well. He is bleeding goals against. He was responsible or partly responsible for two goals against last night.
You're back with the same Flyers are going to move up mantra, same as last year. You'll never learn.

I highly doubt Laughts will be traded. Danny even said that a team will have to overpay b/c of his intangibles. Can't trade culture leaders otherwise the room might fall apart.
Risto is not getting traded b/c they will want a first which I think will be hard to get. |
