I would be very wary of a player who dissappears in the face of adversity and came with his price tag. People work with people they don't like all the time. The fact that one of these two needs to be traded tells me I wouldn't trade for either one, but I would offer Arviddsson and a conditional first round pick if Skinny Pete scored goals in the 3rd and 4th round of the playoffs. - OilyJay

My Unrealistic (but fair) Trade offer
A third team would make this trade more realistic, but the cap situation works more or less for both teams with LTIR, and the contract limit is not exceeded.
To Toronto:
Elias Pettersson (C) – $9.6M AAV (with $2M retained by Vancouver, effective cap hit $7.6M for Toronto)
Filip Hronek (D) – $4.4M AAV
Vincent Desharnais (D) – $775K AAV
Total Incoming Cap Hit: $12.775M
To Vancouver:
Morgan Rielly (D) – $7.5M AAV
Ryan Reaves (RW) – $1.35M AAV
Connor Dewar (C) – $800K AAV
Jani Hakanpaa (D) – $1.5M AAV
Nicholas Robertson (LW) – $875K AAV
Pontus Holmberg (C) – $800K AAV
Fraser Minten (C) – $894K AAV
Easton Cowan (LW) – $870K AAV
2025 1st Round Pick
2025 2nd Round Pick
Total Outgoing Cap Hit: $14.619M
Why Each Team Does This Trade
For Toronto:
Elite Center Depth: Acquiring Elias Pettersson gives Toronto an unmatched 1-2 punch down the middle with Matthews and Pettersson.
Defensive Reinforcement: Filip Hronek bolsters the top pairing, while Vincent Desharnais adds affordable, physical depth to the blue line.
Stanley Cup Push: Toronto is all-in on its championship window, sacrificing futures to build a powerhouse lineup for immediate success.
For Vancouver:
Rebuild with Premium Assets: The 1st and 2nd round picks, along with high-potential prospects Fraser Minten and Easton Cowan, provide a strong foundation for the future.
Roster Flexibility: Morgan Rielly anchors the defense, while affordable forwards like Robertson and Holmberg add depth and scoring potential.
Cap Flexibility: Retaining $2M on Pettersson is manageable while gaining valuable assets and balancing the roster.
Toronto Maple Leafs Updated Roster
Matthew Knies Auston Matthews Mitch Marner
William Nylander Elias Pettersson Alexander Nylander
Max Pacioretty John Tavares Bobby McMann
Steven Lorentz David Kämpf Max Domi
Extras: Calle Järnkrok, Kyle Clifford
Filip Hronek Chris Tanev
Jake McCabe Simon Benoit
Oliver Ekman-Larsson Vincent Desharnais
Extra: Philippe Myers
Goalies
Starter A: Anthony Stolarz
Starter B: Joseph Woll
he issue with this trade proposal, in my opinion, is that Vancouver wouldn't need Rielly if they were committing to a rebuild. If they wanted to compete now, the young assets included in the deal wouldn’t provide immediate help.
However, if Vancouver chose this route, they could fully embrace a rebuild by trading Miller and flipping Rielly. That would net them even more future assets while they tank for a couple of years to reset.
Alternatively, they could choose to remain competitive. Young talent develops much faster today than it did 20 years ago. Robertson could break through this season or next, and Cowan could step up within the next year or two. Additionally, Vancouver has the cap space to bolster their roster and stay competitive while incorporating young talent. |

In the case of Philadelphia, it's going to have to be players who are making bank.
They don't have the salary cap to just sign him.
So....that leaves you with very few pieces to play with.
Couturier ($7.75 m . Who'd have to waive his NTC)
Farabee ($5m)
Koneckny (one of the ONLY guys on Philly probably not on the table, so I'm not going to count him.)
Frost ( $2.1 m. not a bad player, but not a very good player, either).
Laughton ( $3 m)
Risto ( $5.1m)
Petterson ($11.6 m)

So a bunch of Toronto crap for a true #1 center with Vancouver retaining....lol..good luck with that. Vancouver would not want 90% of that junk list

So a bunch of Toronto crap for a true #1 center with Vancouver retaining....lol..good luck with that. Vancouver would not want 90% of that junk list
Vancouver does not want or need to rebuild....that is your fantasy. - TheFreak
but they keep saying he disapears went it counts (or when it get physical), seem like we should all work for him to get to Toronto to continue the hilarious sequence in the playoffs ! |

Actually, they take on 3. draft picks and prospects aren't on NHL contracts.
I might have had fun writing up this ridiculous trade, which is not meant to be serious, btw, but at least I can count. - TroyTech

Why's that ? Take Pettersson over Cozens any day, Byram is redundant with Dahlin and Power signed long term. Highly doubt Byram wants to stay in this poop Show. And Quinn would hurt, but we have Wingers in our system. |
