Something that I have seen on many occasions in the business world is a new leader comes in and presents a new vision. They usually sell the current situation as being bleaker than it actually is and so they set up their long term vision. By convincing ownership to go longer term rebuild mode, instead of having pressure to win in the next 2-3 years, he gives himself 5 or so years to show results. Hence it seems like he is in no rush to make any meaningful changes and has shown no interest in pushing for wins.

FSG cares about the bottom line. Sure, they want to win but as long as they are still making money they can tolerate a longer term approach. I believe the thesis is that Sid/Geno/Letang keep the team competitive enough and give fans enough reason to be in the stands every night and it is Dubas job to make sure that in 2 or 3 years when they are all gone, there is a team that fans can be excited about and will show up and pay big bucks to watch play.

They must have decided that the incremental money from making one or two playoff runs would not be worth it if there are 3 dead years rebuilding where they struggle to get fans in the stadium. This is my thesis on why things are going the way they are.

This is really well put.

I do think Dubas was trying at the beginning. Why else would you add Karlsson and send out a first. He just didn't execute well.

I think he also got an up close look last season, realized the team couldn't compete as constructed, and switched gears starting with the deadline. I'm skeptical of this plan as well. I don't think they have enough young talent to turn the team around and the stars are just getting older. He needs to hit a couple home runs in free agency. Good luck with that.

They spent all that money on Jarry and you gotta wonder if they keep putting him in there hoping that he'll get hot and garner some interest at the deadline. It's probably not gonna happen.

Both goalies suck. Jarry, even going back to the first half of last year, has had stretches where he plays like an elite goalie. So I think there's a better chance of him taking off then Ned. But that's just those two choices, I'd rather go to the minors for another option.

I thought the team would improve once they got rid of Jake.

I didn’t get resigning Ned at all. Especially if it was predetermined we weren’t going to be buyers. Blomqvist should have been getting experience this year and with how bad Ned’s been there’s just zero justification to not giving Blomqvist the backup spot. Ned’s a stop gap poopty backup, there’s no upside to keep rolling him out.

I can get behind the idea they didn't think Blomqvist was ready, so they wanted a stop gap and didn't trust Jarry. And they may be right based on how Blomqvist's season has gone.

But they badly overestimated Ned. Should have just gone with another one year cheap vet from the recycling bin, so you could pull the plug easy. Now their minor depth is overflowing. It's a joke Murashov is in the ECHL. And Larsson probably deserves a shot at the backup job if Blomqvist isn't ready.

Yep. DOC having himself a game so far. I'm a little concerned the Pens can't keep up the pace lol.

Agree can't expect them to dominate Edmonton all day unless they pack it in after being down so much early.

Just watch DOC end up with 12-15 goals, 30 points at the end of the year. He's pretty close to that pace now.

They are getting a good look at Petts, DOC & Hayes tonight... Hopefully Dubas can work a deal in the next couple hours and send them back on the Edmonton team plane...
