Yep league does not want a kerfuffle so they will let it play out this way. Player gets paid and team gets cap space. Win-Win situation. - mickel25
Johansson's contract has been terminated. I don't think he is getting paid. I don't know what the status of the appeal is or if it has gotten to an independent arbitrator yet.

Id easily put Saanheim, York and Bok as potential D.
Andrae and Drysdale I would put as potential darkhorses. All I want from Drysdale this season is to play long streches of games. He's played 29 games this season which is the 2nd most games played for him in one season. He has missed 12 games so far this season so hes on the right track. We will have a better idea of what Drysdale is in approx 3 years
Goaltending is harder to predict. Ersson was fantastic to start the season but since his 1st injury hes been pretty average if not worse. Kolosov is going through a bit of a rough patch and Fedotov has improved from unplayable to serviceable. - xShoot4WarAmpsx
Not trying to be pessimistic and there is always a chance, but I'd give up on Drysdale being a top 2. |

https://www.nytimes.com/a...nen-scott-laughton-trade/
To understand why the Flyers would prefer to keep Laughton is to understand their team-building philosophy: the culture they’re always speaking about needs to be grown from within. They don’t believe that simply adding respected veterans to a young dressing room is the correct way to do it.
I’d also point back to something Keith Jones told me in a recent Q&A. “If you’re just giving people away for the sake of giving them away, that is going to bother players,” Jones said. “That’s one of the advantages Danny has being a former player. He recognizes how things are internally accepted, or not accepted.”
I can pretty much guarantee that the other Flyers in the dressing room wouldn’t see the value in them unloading Laughton for, say, a pair of second-round picks, or even a late first-rounder. Unless he’s involved in a deal for that elusive top-line center they’re looking for, don’t expect Laughton to go anywhere.
Yea, nobody want to see Laughton leave for a 1st round pick .. lol. I think you are right, they have a job for him after his playing days are over as a life (culture) coach. - Flyers_01
You can absolutely get a late 1st for Laughton. Henrique got a 1st. Its also relative to whats available. Only big names available atm are Brock Nelson, Grandlund and Gourde. Laughton also has term. He wil be desired by GMs. Flyers need to smart and make him available.

His contract is terminated. RyJo is contesting it. Briere has already confirmed he has the free space but doesnt want to use it, if thing dont happen to do their way.

It is not in Limbo. The contract as of today is terminated. The Flyers have the full space and could use it if they wanted. RyJo is not getting any money right now
While it is being contested, the contract is in fact still terminated. |

you have any proof he isn't getting paid cliff. show some proof cliff.
if he wasn't getting paid he would have requested his case be heard. like you like to say use some common sense. |

has he had a hearing yet? has the league officially said the contract has been terminated?
they could also lose said cap space if they lost the case correct?
all parties are happy with the current situation. they all got what they want. that is why you do not hear a peep about it. |

Also correct. Johansen could win the appeal, or they could come to a settlement or a independent arbitrator could rule. If any of it is in favor of Johanson, he would receive his back pay and any of that would then have to be applied to the Flyers cap. Which is why Briere wanted to be careful about it and save the space. Any money paid to any player with an NHL contract, has to be accounted for on the cap. If Johansen was currently being paid, it would be on the Flyers cap.

let's start with an easy question. Do you think this ends up ever getting in front of an arbitrator? |

Here is a very interesting observation. Through the second half of last season (games 42-82), the Flyers record was 17-19-5. This year through 41 games the Flyers record in 17-19-5. Identical half season records!
It tells me this is what this team is, a team that through 82 games would be 34-38-10. What was the big difference? Hart left the team soon after the midway point of last season. So for all those that disagreed with me when I said that Carter Hart was indeed the solution in nets for the Flyers and a franchise goalie, suck on that! - jd250
Oh. This post will get some hits. I anticipate some comments like this. Hart was absolutely terrible, his play had nothing to do with the team in front of him, a good goalie can elevate the team to contender status regardless of the lack of talent on the squad. He made zero difference, and were a far better team without him. |

I agree with you. I can see the NHL siding with Johanson but not until the season is over to satisfy both parties.

The Flyers value all the wrong things. It's why they've been irrelevant for 15 years and counting. Player like Laughton have build what they have here. Too valuable to move. - MJL
In this case I agree with you. Not being willing to move Laughton, if that is true, is just plain stupid. They got other veterans that can pick his leadership up in Couts and TK. How many vet voices do you need? Laughton has real value in the market, and the Flyers could benefit in this draft or the next one by trading him. As I mentioned earlier, its not like the team is getting any better at this point. |

We can all see that the Flyers were better when he was on the team. I was more confident in the Flyers when he was available last season compared to what they have this season.

Can Elliott Friedman answer?
https://www.sportsnet.ca/...of-late-off-season-notes/
21. Didn’t get a chance to ask Daly about Ryan Johansen, whose contract can be terminated by Philadelphia. He’s got $8 million remaining. Agent Kurt Overhardt is preparing for a fight, and the Flyers wouldn’t pursue this without a behind-the-scenes wink from the NHL.
I don’t like to question injuries, especially since anyone who's played 905 games (like Johansen) is guaranteed to have legitimate ones. I’m told the key will be everyone navigating how he went from not missing games and practices in Colorado to how he was unable to play for either Philadelphia or AHL Lehigh Valley. The timing is a little weird, which probably has something to do with video of Johansen dancing at his wedding. Again, I wouldn’t try to handicap this, except for saying the NHL and NHLPA hate risking precedent from an arbitrator, so a settlement is always the preference without an air-tight case. |

Agree with that assessment. Yet they have not settled as of yet. Why?
The filed the grievance back end of September. Yet no movement no talk about said case. Clearly the flyers do not have an airtight case or they would go after him full throttle. league not in any hurry either? why?
What do you think happens with this situation between now and when his contract officially expires? |

That's absolutely hysterical. I guess you were right when you said that Hart was as good as Hellebuyck. We can add not knowing what a franchise goalie is to the list of things you don't know. You never cease to find ways to show that. - MJL
Then tell me then, how does essentially the same team go from 21-14-6 with Hart to a below .500 team without him? How does a team that had one of the top penalty kills in the league drop to the middle of the pack without him? Its simple common sense. Carter Hart with Ersson as a backup were providing the Flyers with fantastic goaltending, enabling them to win games. And Torts said this the other day, that Carter leaving through the entire goal tending situation out of whack. |

I think he drops the grievance quietly, to avoid being exposed and embarassing himself and the league further. There is no way he goes from not missing a practice or a game in Colorado to not being able to play at all in Philly. Its clear he didn't want to play for Torts and was unwilling to go to the Phantoms. Sorry, Ryan, you don't have that right, and the Flyers will certainly not allow him to steal money which is what he is trying to do. |

why not drop it already? flyers are the ones who should be embarrassed. |
