you think he is going to say you know what, keep the money all good on my end.
why not drop it already? flyers are the ones who should be embarrassed. - hello it's me 2050
As someone above said, I think they settle this quietly, the grievance is dropped, he gets a chunk of money but not $4M from the Flyers, and nobody ever speaks of it again.
And then Bettman fines the Ottawa Senators and strips them of a 2nd round draft pick. |

not moving Laughton last year ok, but with only another year left after this, most likely the value will be flat to down and no way you sign him again, move him. I get the late first concept, but he is not moving your team forward, there is no concept. |

Why should the Flyers be embarrassed? What did they do? The guy refused to play for them. That was his choice. Why should the Flyers pay him for refusing to play? Everyone knows there is no injury here. He is a fraud. He will drop the grievance because he will be exposed and that will hurt in the future when he tries to get a job in the hockey world again. |

Agree with that assessment. Yet they have not settled as of yet. Why?
The filed the grievance back end of September. Yet no movement no talk about said case. Clearly the flyers do not have an airtight case or they would go after him full throttle. league not in any hurry either? why?
What do you think happens with this situation between now and when his contract officially expires? - hello it's me 2050
And one further thought:
Do we even know if it is still being grieved? Could it have been settled and dropped, and we don't know about it? |

I agree, and even if you move Laughton for a 2nd round pick that is good value, that is certainly not giving him away. There are alot of great players playing in the NHL that were picked in the 2nd round. |

When do they settle, day before his contract expires? after the season no doubt.
he will get his money and if it is less than what he is owed it won't be much at all.
all 3 parties are in cahoots at this time. |

If that were true any settlement would be reflected in the Flyers availabe cap space. Right now they have the full $4M in cap space. |

Then tell me then, how does essentially the same team go from 21-14-6 with Hart to a below .500 team without him? How does a team that had one of the top penalty kills in the league drop to the middle of the pack without him? Its simple common sense. Carter Hart with Ersson as a backup were providing the Flyers with fantastic goaltending, enabling them to win games. And Torts said this the other day, that Carter leaving through the entire goal tending situation out of whack. - jd250
You really have difficulty with everything, don't you. You did it again with this reply. With hyperbole that Hart and Ersson were providing the Flyers with fantastic goaltending. That is false. If you had said that if the Flyers had better goaltending and Hart may have been able to provide that. I doubt that you would've gotten much blow back. However that's not what you did. You tried to use it as proof of another in a long line of absurd opinions that Hart was a franchise goalie and then finished with "suck it". As if that is even remotely evidence that he was a franchise goalie. He was not. He was average and losing him was a blessing in disguise. I'll ask you are you actually this uninformed or are you looking to inflame?

If there was a settlement agreed to resulting in Johansen getting paid. It would show on the Flyers cap. Just as Mike Richards shows on LA cap. No money outside the system.

If you think Hart was nothing more than an average goalie, you know even less about hockey than I thought. Hart carried this team on his back at the beginning of last year. His game started to slip before he left the team, but that is perfectly understandable given what he knew would be happening. Hart had every ability to be a franchise goalie. |

I think he drops the grievance quietly, to avoid being exposed and embarassing himself and the league further. There is no way he goes from not missing a practice or a game in Colorado to not being able to play at all in Philly. Its clear he didn't want to play for Torts and was unwilling to go to the Phantoms. Sorry, Ryan, you don't have that right, and the Flyers will certainly not allow him to steal money which is what he is trying to do. - jd250
If he was just going to drop it because he didn't want to be embarrassed. Why would he file the grievance in the first place? C'mon dude. He wants his money.

More hyperbole not supported by any facts. He was average. He was not a franchise goalie. All you have is hyperbole, fallacies and rhetoric. Try being informed.

what did they do?
1. he didn't refuse. he offered to play and flyers said no.
2. they terminated his contract. yet they clearly do not have the goods to bring the case to an arbitrator. if they did, they would 100%. the flyers case would be exposed.
3. how is it looking for the culture to terminate a contract? optics don't look good. another check mark against the flyers. whether you want to believe it or not.
4. you are a complete fool if you think RyJo is going to walk away from his cash when he could have accepted a buyout. then go elsewhere. he is getting his money or a very high majority of it.
5. what makes you think he wants a job in the hockey world. |

I understand that the Flyers really need top line centers but I think the Flyers made a huge mistake not taking the defenseman Zeev Buium. The kid dazzled in the WJC's. |

In theory, yes.
But this is the NHL.
It's entirely possible that this thing is settled and there is no cap hit, nor is there any announcement.
We were never given the terms of Mike Richards' settlement. Yes, they imposed a cap it, but they never explained how they came to the numbers.
Which was a giant poopshow anyways - they terminated his contract for being caught with drugs - something the CBA doesn't allow. |

You have to move Laughton. You simply do not have "The Room" for him. Pun intended
Realistically Cates or Luchenko are our #3C next season, maybe even Frost or Coots could be 3C if a C is added. Poehling and Hathaway are already slotted in for the 4th line. That means you either keep Laughton as 4th line player at 3 mill and block Lycksell who seems ready or move Laughton

Not trying to be pessimistic and there is always a chance, but I'd give up on Drysdale being a top 2. - Pelle31Forever
Perhaps convert Drysdale into a winger and bring back Andrae who IMO has shown way better natural instincts on the ice from both the offensive and defensive side of the puck. |

Projecting a few years down the road, of the guys on the Flyers now. Who does anyone believe is actually or will become a legit top 6F, a legit top 2D, and a legit starting G? My standard is asking myself the question of these players would be today or in the future able to play those roles on teams like LV, Florida, Colorado, NJ, Washington, Dallas etc.
My 2 cents:
Forwards: TK, Michkov and Foerest
Defense: none
Goalie: none
If I’m even close to being correct, how is this team going to improve on the ice? - mikeyo27
I can’t give you specific names but, I will tell you there will be players of the ilk of Farabee, Lawton, and York. Reading some posts on here, pretty much daily, there are people who think there needs to be a filet mignon for each position in the lineup. It just doesn’t happen that way. Every winning team has role players, players that specialize in only certain things, for example kill penalties, win faceoffs, shadow top scorers. If a third line guy nets 15 to 20 goals, he doesn’t stink, that’s his job. Our problem right now is, we don’t have the horses at the top to do their specific job, carry the role players and fill the net. Just saying, seems expectations for 1 thru 20 seem a bit high. |

How does a team that had one of the top penalty kills in the league drop to the middle of the pack without him? - jd250
The PK has been giving up a lot more higher danger chances this year...
Team expected goals against per 60 on PK:
23-24 6.01 (ranked 3rd)
24-25 7.51 (ranked 23rd)
While the goaltending shorthanded has actually improved:
Team SV% above expected on PK:
23-24 +0.84%
24-25 +1.02%
So no, the goaltending has NOT been the reason the PK has slid to middle of the pack. The PKers just aren't doing as good of a job at limiting HQ chances.
And not to mention Hart had many years of being one of the absolute worst goalies in the league shorthanded... probably because his post to post movement was never the best. |

The league is not giving a player money that is not accounted for towards the the players share of HRR and the 50/50 split.
