This is not bad… not good… just more evidence that the Flyers don’t have the goods.
GMDB hopefully will wake up tomorrow and realize this team isn’t what he hopes it is but what it really is. |

One team has also drafted, and more importantly, developed their players better. - MBFlyerfan
Who have they developed, they drafted good players, they didn’t do anything special developing these guys. |

Elsewhere around the league, the 36 year old Jordan Staal pots a hatrick against the Leafs. |

I am absolutely befuddled that alumni giving pointers was not the key to success |

So what are the Cates and York extensions going to look like after another non-playoff season to support the rebuild. And does Briere pull a TK 2.0, and extend Laughton a year early? Assuming a bridge deal for Foerster. It is just incredible how the band just stays together year after year with not good results. |

Cates and York are pillars. They are the glue. This is not even a question. Do not disturb the culture |

It's all Frost's fault, once he is gone, then it is go time.

Thank goodness Briere doesn't wan to fall all the way down to the bottom. Wants to stay competitive and have the young guys learning through a competitive team and a team that has a chance to win and make the playoffs, because it’s so tough to get out of there. LMAO. What an embarrassment of an NHL organization
Also for all of those that repeatedly bring up Buffalo as a reason why they don't want to tank. One game separates the Flyers from Buffalo.
Flyers 17-20-5 39 points
Buffalo 16-21-5 37 points
Buffalo has actually won 12 games in regulation to the Flyers 9 |

9 regulation wins in 42 games is really, really bad. There is just no way to spin it. I expect extensions for players to be announced before the trade deadline.

They're a competitive team that doesn't want to bottom out. Building a culture for the young guys. Need to compete for the playoffs. It's too hard to get out.

Gooo Sabres! Here you are comparing them to the Flyers but then will criticize someone who brings up Buffalo. Are they any closer to a Cup than we are? I see they only have 20 comments on their Jan 4 blog....you post way more than that a day criticizing Risto, Torts, etc. They could really use you over there!

With the worst save % in the league, the most likely outcome will be a top 5 pick. Unless somehow that dramatically changes. Not like the special teams will get better. The goaltending has been garbage pretty much since the time Hart was removed. Pretty large sample size to suggest the goals against is the new norm. I hope they pick 5th instead of 12th.

You are correct. It is bad. I'm a Flyers fan and try to be positive, but they are wearing me down. I don't expect much, but the games have been terrible lately and this team is boring. At least last year, there was a stretch when they were playing well and the games were entertaining. This year, I can't wait for most games to be over. I don't think it will be easy to get rid of our players but sure hope we luck out and DB finds a way to make some moves.

Briere has to stop making decisions based on "culture". If he wants to improve "culture", build a more talented roster. Winning builds "culture". Example- He did not have to extend Hathaway over the summer. At deadline, he might have gotten a 3rd rd pick as a UFA. Now, 3rd rd pick, good chance that prospect will not make an impact. However, moving on from Hathaway opens up a slot for maybe Tuomaala or Gaucher. Maybe they show they can play. The 3rd pick is another lottery ticket to be used to try and improve the roster then extending a 4th liner into his 30s. IMO, not extending Hathaway is a better route to creating a competitive team, then keeping a player who has not helped the Flyers make the playoffs since he got here. All for "culture". Not to single out just Hathaway, it's the same reason Seeler and Laughton are still here. |

Unfortunately, no matter the outcome, Briere wins. Say they do get a top 5 pick. Most people will just be excited for the pick, not caring about the incompetence that led to it. They get the pick and get to say, like Frank Sinatra, they did it their way. The Flyers will have the pick and the winning culture (that led to all those losses). The fact that their "culture" doesn't actually lead to wins will go right over their heads and alot of fans because they got to do it the Flyers way. |

There is a part of me that wants to think maybe they really are tanking but want to cloak it. Don't want to admit to it and just put PR out there. Then I think that nah, there is no way they're that smart. Then I realized that it's really incompetence and they really were trying to compete for the playoffs. Gives great hope that these are the right people to build the Flyers to contention.
