If Crosby was getting traded it would be because he asked and Dubas is not going to get a big overpay. He will have his hands cuffed a bit. - MacPatty
That is also accurate. Crosby doesn't wanna go anywhere so I think we are safe for now..
Side note wouldn't be surprised if we did a small swap Nick Robertson for DOC type of trade. I do wonder if Dubas would have interest in trading Bunting then buying real low on someone like Kuzmenko. It wouldn't be a poplar idea from a defensive standpoint, but the guy could potentially turn it around offensively next to Geno and would probably go for a mid round pick. |

Or Maybe we will trade for Reaves and Olivier and put them on the bottom line and make them the "Bash Brothers line". Then we can at least have one line that sticks up for people. Or even trade for Olivier and bring up Imama from WBS. I know Grinder would be happy and many of us. If we are going to sell and try to tank a bit at the deadline. Oh wait sorry "retool" at the deadline. Why not make it entertaining? |

I've got Olivier and Frederic on my free agent wish list. I don't think either are getting traded here, their teams value them highly. Maybe Frederic if we wanted to get a jump on FA but it's not Dubas MO. Reaves is kind of dead weight.
But that's glaringly missing from this team. Any semblance of push back when things get physical. We just don't have it. |

Agree with this. If Crosby wants a trade, they'll "do right by him" and minimize the return. |

But we have Noel Accairi!
I'm not super familiar, but have no problem if they add a tough guy that can play a regular shift like Reeves could. I don't want to see someone like Imama though. That's as bad as wasting a spot on a supposed PK specialist like Nieto. |

I will say this. It is funny when Imama is on the ice for WBS. He will fake a shoulder every once in a while and players flinch. A lot of opponents will stop scrumming when they see him coming into the picture after the play. He definitely has a different respect. A few weeks ago a player got slashed after a goal. We put him on the ice afterwards and not one player wanted to fight him or act out from the other team. |

I wish we'd see more big trades like the Rantanen trade, but it is still very interesting for Carolina and Colorado. Does Colorado know something about Rantanen's health that caused them to balk at paying him big money this offseason or is he simply a cap casualty? For Carolina, this is the second straight year they made a big push for a big time pending UFA winger. Cant imagine they'd pay assets like that for another rental.
All in all, interesting deal for all parties, except for Chicago. |

Seems like a great deal for Colorado. Rantanen is the best player but getting nevas for 6.5m is awesome and that open cap space will help next year. Saving 8m on rantanen. |

If they get a tough guy, he better be a PK specialist. He won't play otherwise. We already did the Reeves thing. Sullivan didn't play him even when his boss made it completely clear that he was disgusted about the abuse of his stars.
Seriously... We could have a melee like that Islander disaster several years ago and Sullivan would want them to turn the other cheek and "just play".

Yeah, I really like it for the Avs. Remember, Rantanen is their 3rd best player and their best and 2nd best are locked in at $12.6 and $9 respectively... Can't go and pay Rantanen $14M.
Carolina can spend $14M on him as he should be their far and away best player. It's going to be really interesting to see if Rantanen can be the difference maker now that he is the top guy and not sharing any ice with Makar and MacKinnon.
Not that he had any say in it, but this is a huge risk for Rantanen. He was guaranteed to get a monster offer continuing as is with the Avs and hitting FA. New team and they have talent, he won't be playing on a line with Mack and Makar. If his scoring drops off and this doesn't put Carolina over the top with a deep playoff run, it could cost him $10-20M on his next deal. |

I see rantanen putting up less points just based on the makeup of the team in Carolina. Would be funny if he pulls a guentzal and jets somewhere else. Although I’d imagine Carolina would have been able to discuss on offer with him first after losing out once already. |

I don't see Carolina paying over 14 million for him. I do wonder if he doesn't play as well for Carolina and put up the same numbers if it hurts his value a bit. |

I think it was mostly cap hit. Like MacPatty said he wants more than MacKinnon and then there is Makar to consider soon afterwards. I'd imagine they don't really want to pay him more than them. They're also starting to think out depth wise and in their system so a chance to restock a bit with for a guy they weren't going to keep similar to us and Jake.
Time will tell if that was the right move. I'm skeptical, I like to keep my elite scorers who also feed on top PP. |

Yay.....
Speaking of minors, Jarry let in four including the first shot last night. |
