Clearly the players have been switched with duplicates.

It looked like the Flyers' plan was to just beat the Isles into submission...they played some physical hockey and looked like they were going to take control at times. But the Isles didn't shrink away. I'd call that a gutsy win.

Team has been very disciplined and are playing like the Barry coached teams. Patrick has done a great job under tough circumstances.

The PK looks a lot more organized. Before it looked like they were resigned to just letting up a goal quickly so they could get back to 5-on-5

It’s very strange because it’s not like Patrick has only been coaching the team for a week. Maybe the players are afraid of changes if the losing continued?

Didn't hurt that Frost left mid-game due to the trade and then Torts benched Michkov. They were effectively playing with 10 forwards

Seems like a strange trade and the Flames looks like the clear winner early on.

Frost and Farabee have definitely not been great, but the Flames definitely walked away as the winners of that trade.

Wow that a huge jump in 2027-2028. Maybe then the isles can add an elite player with that “Tavares” money

Cap could be as high as $96MM and probably not less than $94MM.

Edit: Didn’t see Chiefs post. Nice increases. There is going to be a lot of action this off season and in the FA market. It could also give teams the opportunity to keep players that they other wise couldn’t have kept.

3. New York Islanders
Trade Candidates: Brock Nelson (C), Kyle Palmieri (RW), Jean-Gabriel Pageau (C)
Pending UFAs: Matt Martin (LW), Hudson Fasching (RW), Mike Reilly (D), Tony DeAngelo (D), Dennis Cholowski (D), Jakub Skarek (G)
Projected Salary Cap Space: $-3,907,202
2025 Draft Picks: 1/2/3/4/5/6/7

Under GM Lou Lamoriello’s leadership, the Islanders have qualified for the Conference Final twice. But that core group has either moved on or just aged to the point where they’re not as dangerous as they once were. The Islanders probably won’t get back to contending again until a new GM comes in – but for now, it’s Lou’s show, and it’s up to him to either blow things up and get back on the right track or commit to mediocrity.

The Islanders have been playing better recently, but selling should still be the goal here. Nelson is one of the top trade targets in the NHL this year. Expect many teams to push for the pending UFA. Palmieri is also set to become a free agent, and at nearly 34, he doesn’t seem to fit the team’s contention window. He should bring in a number of suitors, though, given he’s on pace for a second straight 50-point season. Pageau is a productive third-line center, good for around 40 points a year. He’s also signed until the end of 2025-26, so he can be more than a rental, too. None of the other pending UFAs will likely give them much of a return. But after signing DeAngelo and trading for Scott Perunovich, they actually have quite a bit of defensive depth.

Lou won’t sell into this win streak. Conversely I bet he adds at the deadline. Based off that, I see him re signing Nelson and Palmieri. Not saying I agree or disagree, just what I think will happen.

They are playing well but there is still a lot to be done before Lou starts buying.
If they are in the PO’s he may not be selling as aggressively as if they were out but if someone
Gives them and offer he can not refuse for Nelson and or Palms he’s going to pull the trigger. Unless they keep this streak up and roll into the deadline playing at a high level he may just stand pat. I think it’s just a bit early to make the call.
That’s my “Bit” and I’m sticking to it.
***Bouquest off waivers. Another Dman claimed off waivers.

Well, if he signs them after the season when he has no leverage in contract negotiations, then he's making a big mistake. If he signs them to team-friendly extensions of short duration before the trade deadline, I'll be somewhat disappointed, but it won't be as dumb. A lot has to do with how the team does in the next 5 games.........against good teams, and mostly road games.

#Isles do have to make a move. Expecting it to be George to Bridgeport, as no one was placed on waivers today.

But adding in three defensemen and having three on IR leads me to believe that it's possible someone is going to be getting shipped out at some point.

Hope George if he goes down is just a cap move as I think he playing well enough to stay.

Including George there are 11 defensemen on the roster/IR. Him being sent down makes 10. If they dumped Cholowski (or sent him down) that'd be 9. But probably two guys would have to go when Pulock/Dobson are healthy to get back down to the normal number of 7. It just feels like something is going to happen on the blueline, whether major or minor I have no idea.

I like George too, but he's the only waiver-exempt one of the bunch so he was probably always going to be the first casualty.

They now have 5 RHD and 5 LHD with George gone (officially, now). Perunovich can play the right side as a LHD also, so it really feels like a RHD could be heading out the door given the fact Reilly could be back at some point to reclaim his 3rd pair LHD spot. Once 6/8 are healthy the right side of the defense looks like:

Dobson
Pulock
Mayfield
Deangelo
Perunovich (maybe)
Boqvist

Which is a major log-jam
