Will put this in my column, but Rantanen is exactly what Carolina needed. A true playoff performer who also has an edge. Worst possible thing as a Rangers fan was that
- airjan23

Yep I never understood the trade from the Avs perspective. Rantannen is a top 10 nhl player in his prime

I feel like a trade like that is just to clear Zibs salary off the books
- TPC

He has to approve any deal. Maybe to Colorado, but not sure they want that salary as they have to extend Makar again in two-plus seasons

It's actually simple, get something for an asset they will lose. He wants Drasaitl money, they won't give him more than McKinnon makes. Makar's contract is up in two-plus seasons and he also has to get paid. They get Necas, who will be cheaper LT, and also Drury as a middle-six center. Plus they have cap room and picks. But they are a worse team now than 24 hours ago

Yea but Necas is a UFA in 2026 so technically they traded him just for Jack Drury?! If you are moving him do it for a good young player with some term. If Necas leaves as a UFA next year it makes no sense

Who knows, Im sure we will find out eventually what happened there. Feel like discussions with Sakic werent going well. Necas probably the best roster player who was available for trade so he pulled the trigger.

It all depends if they extend Necas. I would take Rantannen for a half year over Necas for 1.5 years any day of the week

Buy in man! Room for everyone! They’re are on the right track

trust the process

Any team that can be as bad as it was, the worst in the league, for 2+ months could and should be looked at with great skepticism for, in my opinion, at least the same amount of time it was that bad for (2-3 months).

I’m happy they’re playing well. They have that resilience they had last year, where going down a goal or two doesn’t feel like a death sentence. Some of the issues from the earlier months still persist. Mainly bad starts to games/periods and mika, the highest paid center on the team, being mentally broken and physically slower by a step. If they’re going to go for it this season I don’t see how we do it with mika getting meaningful minutes and with lindgren on the team.

A lot of words to say, just because some of us might be cautiously optimistic doesn’t mean we’re not hopeful. Stop trying to divide us dork

Borgen’s current cap hit is 2.7 million so it’s really not that big of a jump to 4.1 million
- TPC

Twitter losing their minds. People must not be watching the games, he’s better than Trouba at half the cost. Great fit for right now.

They have two spots to fix this year, Lindgren and Zib. That seems to be the end goal

I’m not going to suppress my excitement

It’s driving me crazy. Miller looks like an all star too, and isn’t by accident

Some things arent meant for us to make sense of. Some players, as odd as it may be, just click. This could be the case here. Time will tell.

So Avs GM said the Draisaitl deal changed everything for them. Rantanen and Drai have the same agent and its likely he wanted the same contract as Drai but because of their commitments to MacKinnon and Makar they had to make the tough choice.

Because they couldn’t afford his upcoming contract and they need a center so Kotkaniemi + Necas seems about as a good a deal as you can get
- picklerick

Question is why would the Canes trade Necas with another year of control. Good chance the Canes cant sign Rantanan as an UFA.

I think theyre going all in for this year. If they win it was worth it, if not and he leaves its a loss. Huge gamble.

This. They have talent. They have the ability to win a lot of games. They were playing below their talent for a couple months, so a bounce back was inevitable. But the truth is, it is the same Rangers team that has not shown the ability to get over that hump to win it all. Winning now is fun, but doubtful this team has it all. Change the core. I agree with you Rick.

Lots of weird trade clauses lol

- TPC

Remember when those clauses used to be for signing players to a lower salary for stability?
Chris Drury doesn't.

Preds have won 5 in a row, Lauzon has been out since beginning of Jan. He’s someone they should target as a Lindgren replacement
