For me NO. Not signed then try to move his NMC contract.

I honestly don't know if they made the right call. Perhaps they'd win a cup with him, perhaps they don't.

But I certainly respect the courage to move a 100 pts player because you decided you wouldn't spend enough to keep him once the season ends.

Immediately pivots to Marner who has never taken his team anywhere.

Guess they don't need anybody at the deadline, team is already perfect.

They don't need to trade away Jarnkrok and Kampf just for fun though because they aren't producing like 6M players or given top 6 with PP time roles.

How many times have teams ended up overpaying players for past success, sometimes only by fear of what letting that player go would mean? How many of those times did it end up being a mistake?

You might be right, it might end up being a bad move, time will tell, but it certainly is courageous and interesting.

It's easy to give him 14M and hope for the best. Colorado didn't take the easy road on this one, not at all.

Rantanen said he was willing to take much less than his value to stay. Avs could end up with nothing to show for it in a couple years down the road. Rantanen was a beast.
