You need a wingman to fight your way through the zombie apocalypse wasteland.
The wingman can be any current Leafs player.
Who is it?
For me, I'm bringing Domi. Why?
He's younger than the obvious option (Reaver) and doesn't have a history of injuries that could hobble him at an inopportune time (like Tanev). He has his daddy's tiger blood in him and isn't afraid to get violent.
I'd bring Reaver, but I don't think he could keep up with me - you know, as a 54 year old smoker non-athlete, I am too fast for him. |

Simon Benoit.
Big body, probably a French outdoorsman who knows how to hunt moose and collect maple syrup.

Not a bad choice. I think we might agree on something here. I overlooked Benoit.

This is an interesting list.
We already have
Makar, Morrissey, Toews, Theodore, Parayko and Sanheim.
Pietrangelo is a righty, so I would think they would go handedness and not just 'can he play that side' - especially since that seems to be Cooper's preference.
The sentimental choice is Doughty - but as of today he hasn't played yet in 2024-25 (he's travelling with the team and in a normal practice jersey, so his return should happen on their present road trip). If I were making the choice soley on merit, I'm not sure Doughty would make the grade.
The most offensively gifted is clearly Bouchard and he would make their power play better. I watch a fair bit of Edmonton and while he's a good skater, he's definitely defensively a problem.
The logical choice to me is probably Dobson. He's the most rounded - like a Dougty or Pietrangelo-lite type of player. Capable of being both offensive and defensive and eating a lot of effective minutes when called upon to do so.
Honestly with those three names at the top of the list, I wouldn't even consider any of the others.

Gotta admit, Willys selfishness is a testament to his sense of self-preservation. Homeboy wants to live and would do anything to stay alive.
I’d take Tavares. New father, leader, stays calm. |

I would take doughty. Just my opinion but I think he adds a lot on and off the ice. Proven winner and can spark the team if need be. |

I mean, in a vacuum, I might give a poop if there were no NHL games to watch.
One of my teams has five players going and my other team has four players going. If none of them get hurt, then I would consider the tournament a success. I could care less which country wins. It feels selective and a bunch of countries aren't represented. No DrySaddle. No RuSSian contingent. No Latvian team. What kind of tournament won't feature the Living Latvian Legend, Zemgus Girgensens? (edit : nice alliteration)
Maybe it could have been the four nations plus an additional fifth "world" team that would be everybody else left out.
Just spitballing. But yeah, hopefully nobody gets hurt. |

Just think of how many goals the Great One could have scored if he had rocked a mustache like Lanny McDonald or Matthews or Wendel Mother(frank)ing Clark. |

Tournament needs Russia, Switzerland, Slovakia and Czech Republic added at a minimum.
You could also add 2 more teams who qualify prior to the start of the tournament with a small 4 team playoff that would include teams like Germany, Latvia, Kazakhstan and Belarus.
Without doing that, you don't really have a "best on best" international tournament. |

Did you like the World Cup of Hockey in 2016? I did. I wasn't as invested as I typically am for the Olympics - and as alluded to above, having all of the nations represented makes it a better tournament. There's really no reason they couldn't have had Russia playing here.
For the record I'm looking forward to the games. It'll be good hockey. |

Pretty sure the only teams that could conceivably be added would be Russia and Czechia |
