Yup, Farabee fans on the rebound and it slips through the pads, that's about right. - jd250

How is it that someone as invested in the sport of hockey as you are doesn't realize the basics of the game and that the puck was bouncing and on edge? |

Ten years ago….100%….wonder because he got him shoulder to head? Pretty textbook. I thought it was a good hit…but in the new NHL…nothing surprises me anymore. |

Michkov has barely played in the 3rd period, not exactly what I would call developing the kid. |

Also, has anyone noticed how well Drysdale has played lately? Monster third period tonight from him. |

Players like Michkov and Drysdale should be part of the rotation in a tight game late in the 3rd pd. A rebuild should allow players you hope will.be here long-term in game situations in a season where the team is not making a playoff push. Alas, the current HC has a different vision.

It's not just that. They should have had flexibility to maneuver. I know you guys hate it but MJL is right in this aspect. They are rebuilding team with no maneuverability.
Like Hathaway. Why did he need to be resigned. He would have been the perfect TDL piece for playoff teams. They love acquiring those types of guys for a playoff push.
Laughton. Why do I need Laughton when I have a younger version in Cates. And don't give me the leadership stuff. If you move a leader type player guess what happens, It allows maybe someone else to step into that role. Say Cates.
Farabee/Tippett - two wingers signed long term. Do I need both? I actually prefer Farabee to Tippett who I think is way overvalued.
Konecny - I get he is a good player a people love him. He could have also been a huge trade chip to maybe get you a young center and assit with a rebuild along with your 3 1st this year. Also you wouldn't have had to tie up big money leaving you some flexibility.
They just created this team where they have no manueverability or flexibility.
Just my novice views - J35Bacher
I agree with you, and they just keep making the same mistakes over and over.
Agree on Farabee/ Tippett. Farabee is getting those rebound goals, the garbage goals...the ones that make JD250 say he is just an ok player because he isn't a sniper. But he is going to those areas for those rebounds, tips, and screens. I like that. Tippett seems more peripheral, and seems to get most of his goals on breakaways, etc.
Not just Hathaway but Phoeling and Seeler too. They keep resigning what hasn't been working and are expecting a different result. I hate the TK signing...not because of how he plays now, but in years 7 and 8.

Several Flyers players said that, in addition to the two-day respite, having Scott Laughton back in the lineup energized the team.

Developing young talent is not this coach’s strong point, in fact, is one of his biggest flaws (which makes no sense for a team with so many young players. Conventional wisdom was that Michkov was hitting the rookie wall, which was most likely true. However, watching this guy play now is like watching a different player from a couple months ago. He’s not skating with swagger and he seems somewhat reluctant now. Earlier, he looked like he was having fun out there and his creativity and feistiness was on full display. Now, he looks like Torts neutered him like one of his many lost dogs. It’s temporary I’m sure, but God please don’t let this team mess up a potential star in the making. |

Exactly, it's a process that Tortorella is best at. Stalling the developmental momentum of a young player.
Smart teams and coaches leverage a players strengths to build on a players confidence and trust between coaches and player. Help a player to expand his comfort zone by showing him underutilized abilities through coaching, Use that developmental momentum to address a players high frequency weaknesses. Don't focus on a players low frequency weaknesses like defensive zone coverages that are the cost of doing business with a type of player.
While dumb teams (Tortorella) fixate on weaknesses at the expense of leveraging strengths. Spend valuable time and energy trying to influence low frequency, low value skills. Double down on a poor process by accusing the player of being uncooperative (scratching). Stripping down the players unique identity that can lead to a complete loss in development momentum, they self create the rookie wall, or as worse as selling a player at a discount or having the player completely fall out of the picture. He's no longer a prospect. Flyers are famous for the dumb teams approach. |

Let’s not forget they tried to re-sign Walker.
They then made the simple, smart, and logical decision to trade Walker. Wasn’t a hard choice or any stroke of genius. - furio16
I don't know if they tried to re-sign or was just looking at what he is asking for, regardless if you plan on letting him go.
Say if Walker only wanted 1.5 mil a year then you would re-sign him because why the heck not.
Any gm would at lest check in and see what the player is asking for.

Not a good coach for a rebuilding team. - mikeyo27
Well im not the biggest trots fan, and i think he will only be here for a little longer, its not terrible for michkov to learn how to play in his own end,
It never hurt Panarin progress.

Michkov is behind the play quite a bit now. He really needs to improve his conditioning and his acceleration in the off season. But it's all good, this is what is expected from a 20 year old kid playing in the NHL for the first time. I am not worried about Michkov developing, but I do wish he was playing more minutes in these games. The coach is putting defense and wins first and foremost. |

He can learn that as he goes. What they should be doing is helping him to unlock his offensive potential, his confidence, his creativity.
Panarin was 24 when he was a rookie. Its not the same.

In 7 or 8 years who cares what the Flyers are paying TK? By then, the cap will be so high TK's contract will represent about 5% of the cap space. You are focusing on the wrong thing. TK is the leader of this team and he has plenty of good years ahead of him.
I have said that Farabee is a smart player that knows how to get to the tough areas of the ice to score goals, and when he is playing that way you see the results. But that does not negate the fact that Farabee is a low skill player. How many scoring chances have we seen Farabee not convert this season already? Farabee is what he is, a solid middling forward. There is nothing special in his game and IMO Farabee is very replaceable.
One GM recently said it best. The way the league is now, he could take his bottom two lines and replace them with another team's bottom two lines and it would make no difference to the team. This was a comment against Bettman wanting to expand the league by two more teams, basically saying there is just not enough talent in the world to support it. The league needs to retract two teams, not expand. |

The only thing holding Michkov's potential and creativity back are the players around him. The coaches are teaching him how to be a professional NHL hockey player both on and off the ice, as they should. Briere just needs to get more talent around Michkov and you will see his productivity explode. However, as I stated, Michkov has some work to do himself, to improve his skating and conditioning. |
