For someone that gets 2nd line minutes and PP1 time, it is ridiculous that Kreider only has 2 assists so far.

The Rangers have had 27 skaters play so far. Only four of them have less assists than Kreider. Vesey (26 games), Kaliyev (9 games), Ruhwedel (5 games), and Mackey (2 games). Kreider has played in 41 games.

Did anyone realize that Bread was on the ice for the entire 2 min power play at the end of the game? He was completely gassed and didn’t have anything left to get back. You want to direct your ire to anyone direct it to Borgen, who should have the wherewithal to know not to pass the puck across ice in that situation. The awareness in that situation needs to be better especially from someone who just signed a brand new 5 year deal.

Not like it was the 1st time. He extends his shifts all the time and rarely is it beneficial for us. I'm not saying he gets scored on all the time when he does it. But, it's not worth it, IMO. Just have faith in your NHL-caliber teammates and keep the damn lines together.
And, while yes, he should be more aware of the guy coming out of the box, I'm not putting more blame on Borgen that on Bread. He shouldn't have been out there, he shouldn't have called for the puck, and he should damn well bust is ass with everything he's got after coughing up the puck with a nice break coming ahead of OT!!!! Giving up in this situation is 100% absolutely unforgivable.

Players do not get many assists while in front of the opposition net. They are there for tips and rebounds. Not many assists generate from those touches.

With that said, he's also not a puck carrier for 5-on-5 play. It also doesn't help the guy he was passing to cannot finish (Mika) anymore.

This is nothing new, he has done it for years, playoffs included. He got a pass since the Rangers were winning, now that they arent, everyone is calling him out.

I love bread but his back checking effort cannot be that and get off the ice when you're tired

Everything about the play was bad.

Expiring PP, late in 3rd period, Ranger D-man takes puck in deep and then dished the puck back to the point. Add a dead-tired forward (Bread) calling for the puck which lead to a bad east/west pass near the blue line.

All bad decisions.

Since we're on the topic, what do we think we should do about Bread these next 2 years?

I get that he has a full NMC, but there seems to be an unspoken consensus we just let it play out, with him walking on July 1 2026. That seems kinda meh to me. I think if we are in this same position in the standings next year, we should consider asking him to waive to go to a contending team if we can get a 2nd round pick back or something (maybe more if we retained salary, which I assume is almost a must).

Personally I'd ask him over the summer, but with the recent stuff that's gone on that seems highly unlikely. Doubt they even ask Mika to waive.

i think bread is here until that '26 deadline no matter what. as you said, he has a NMC.

he was gassed last night, out there for almost 3minutes so he couldnt have kept up.

if they fall off a cliff i can see him being a rental target for someone

edit: they better get more than 2nd regardless of retention, imo, if he does end up being a deadline deal next year.

This is the problem, though.
He does that every game. There is absolutely no reason for an NHL player to take a 3 minute shift. Panarin after 3 minutes is not of much more benefit than Adam Edstrom fresh off the bench.

listen i agree - but it was a PP and all of PP1 was on for most of that time. lavi took a timeout too, so the expectation was PP1 was staying on that whole time no matter what.

its just a calamity of errors at the end there. why key decides to bomb into the zone for a rush...probably b/c it's still 5v4. him bombing in leaves a gassed panarin covering his d spot, puck back to borgen trying to make a play and bam, no points.

I think we all understand that it was a combination of errors and perfect storm of sorts, but the play just amplified a truth that already exists: Panarin is out top paid player who puts up big regular season point totals, but doesn't have the defensive part of his game and intangibles needed to grind out winning hockey and be a leader by example. Which would be nice to have from our top paid skater, almost a must I would say, for any team wanting their season to end with a Stanley Cup

People have been making excuses for the guy since he got here. Stop the poop already. A great offensive weapon during the regular season who doesnt back check hard or play well defensively.

He is what he is.

Not for nothing though, I think Trocheck was on for the full PP also and he skates his ass off on the back check. Panarin had a good 15 foot lead on him when Makar intercepted the pass. Trocheck over took Panarin before he hit the Rangers blueline!!!

Thats pathetic.

I don’t think Miller is going to get traded. It seems they are pushing more to trade Patterson at this point since he will bring back more value

Lets roll on this, lets say Petterson is the one who will get shopped. Are you guys more open to trading some package involving Chytil for Petterson?

Petterson reminds me a younger version of zib. Not sure I want to give up a huge haul and take on that contract

Filip chytil? 25 year old injury prone center with a career high of 45 points? As a non starter for Elias Petterson? 26 year old center with a career high of 102 points?

Just stating how pathetic the effort of back check was from the 11.6 per man.

As I recall Panarin was your hero.
