You aren't getting a 1C back for Petey. Cozens is 23, a bigger body, and has potential. He's a 2C with 1C upside. Getting that with Power – a legit top 4 and potential top 2 dman – is the get here.

If they add Quinn or a pick, that's likely the best package to address what the Canucks need.

- NewYorkNuck

I get that, see edit above, there’s going to be multiple players involved imo and they need to frame it that Powers is the main piece coming back. A franchise dman (potentially).

Byram and Powers would be fine but keep Cozens.

I heard a unverified rumor yesterday that JR did his speech yesterday to expose FA. I heard for a while now JR wants to rebuild but can't get FA to agree, so he made it public about the feud.

It makes perfect sense to go that route. You have 3 or 4 good prospects like Willander and EP25. Keep an eye on Alriksson next year or the following one. Likker is probably 2 years away ( if you were trading a prospect he is the one I would move).

I think Hughes in two years will opt to play with his brothers ( gut feeling) and win a cup in NJ.

So my opinion is hell yeah rebuild, even more so with all the noise around the team.

I do give credit to JTM for having the balls to call out EP40 and the Canucks. Jay Beagle did not like Petey also.

Good stuff here and man do we miss the Beags!!!!!!

Will NJ have 14m or so in cap space come 2027? If we blow it up, I could see us just trading Hughes there and get Nemec and multiple other pieces back.

Nemec two firsts Pesce. The cap will have gone up 14 mil by the time Hughes needs a new contract.

honestly not enough from NJD for 2.5 years of one of the top 2 best defensemen in the league (interchangeable with makar)

I would honestly argue that if he want to a better team like NJD he joins the conversation as the #1 in the league.

Pesce also isn't waiving his NTC for a rebuild.

Nemec, Mercer, Anton Silayev and 2025 1st for Hughes

Maybe, but a team trading for Hughes is basically looking to trade for the equivalent of 1.5-2.5 years of Makar, Mackinnon, Draisatl, McDavid. It will be one of the biggest deals this century.

I don't think Buffalo would give up 2 starting Dmen, Powers is by far the player you want. Buffalo also has a deep prospect pool and picks. If you have to take Cozens as the hook to get Powers? Do it 100%
As far as Hughes goes, it sucks that the Canucks can not have nice things. I agree that he will want out and head East Coast USA. You would get a boatload for him and with Petey, Miller, Boeser and Demko all out for youth and picks, that is a total full rebuild.

I don't think there is a deal like that. If Canucks take a 7 mil guy who produces the same as 1.6 mil Pius Suter I would be pissed as a fan. I already have little to no respect for Canucks mgmt right now, so that would put it over the top for me.

I really don't think teams are lining up to trade for Petey. I think they are kicking tires.

Cozens 25 pts 11 goals 7 mil. EP 40 30 pts 11 goals 11.6 mil. Both not good.

I also don't see Hughes sticking around. The kid expressed concern about how Pearson's hand injury was dealt with, he is having to put up with this current shitshow, doubt this management group is thought highly of by Quinn.
I sure can't blame him.

Demko’s game so far hasn’t come as a surprise to Rutherford (who was a former NHL goalie himself).

Rutherford says players who miss training camp often have an off season or at least a slow start. And on top of that, they often get injured again.

“He’ll be okay,... he has a lot of talent and it’s still there.”

Cozens is only 23 though so there is possible upside. And he is only signed for 3 more seasons. Big difference to 8 more with Petey. Like I said, if Cozens is the pill you have to swallow to get Powers? Done and done.

Rutherford acknowledged the team misses Ian Cole and Nikita Zadorov. Rutherford is "mystified" by the accusation that Canucks disrespected Zadorov during the negotiation process.
